What can I do in 7 days in Montpellier, France? Posted: Sun May 4, 2008 06:53 AM UTC
1. My flight originate from San Francisco - Arriving in Paris on June 29. What is the best way to get to Montpellier - by train or plane?
2. If riding a train, how much is the cost? How long is the trip. What is the fastest train can I take? How do I get my train ticket from Charles de Gaulle Airport?
3. If I take the plane to Montpellier (from CDG Airport), will it be easy to purchase plane tickets at the airport with no reservation? Should I purchase my domestic tickets from the US? I'm a little concern with purchasing tickets - because what if my flight got delayed and I miss my connecting flight?
4. What neighboring cities are there close to Montpellier that I can visit? I have 7 days to spare?
Thanks!

Camping le soleil - Argeles Plage Posted: Tue April 22, 2008 03:04 PM UTC
Hi
Have booked to go camping here in August, myself, my sister and 4 kids. We will not have transport. Been reading various reviews on place and am now panicking that le soleil is a bit out of the way and not much to entertain us there. Also public transport looks to be limited and rather pricey. Can anyone reassure me. Just want to know that we have some shops restaurants things to see apart from the beach
Many thanks

budget place to stay Posted: Mon April 14, 2008 10:16 AM UTC
Hey friends, I am going to Montpellier just for one night and am looking forward to spending the night in a cheap youth hostel or something of the sort. I just need to lay my head and really am not bothered too much about facilities. Can anybody help me with some suggestions? I would prefer a place close to the train station. Thanks in advance

Visiting in September Posted: Mon April 7, 2008 04:50 PM UTC
We are in Cap d'Agde for a week from 1 September this year and one of our number is a real sun-lover and is hoping for a tan. What is the weather like at that time of the year? Also, we want to visit Agde itself, Beziers and Montpellier while we are there. Will we need a car or can we get to all of them on public transport?

Visting in July 2008 - Getting to the rugby ground and things to do Posted: Fri March 28, 2008 12:54 PM UTC
Hi Coming over for the Leeds Rhinos game, staying in Perpigan Friday to the Wednesday. We have booked a hotel in the south of Perpignan and hired a car. What is the best method of getting to the Rugby game i.e. Bus from the centre or is it easy to park near the ground.
Also any suggests for what to do during the day in and around Perpigan and at night. We are both foodies.
Thank you

Early morning arrival? Posted: Wed March 26, 2008 02:54 AM UTC
We're thinking of taking the train from Paris to Carcassonne in June.
Only problems being a very early arrival.
One option is arriving at 5:40 am.
Another is around 7:40 am.
This seems quite early. Is anything open at these hours?
What would one do?
Also wondering about a hostel in Preixan (about 10 km south) Sidsmums Travellers Retreat.
Is it easy to get there from Carcassonne?

9 days in Provence - Itinerary suggestions Posted: Tue February 26, 2008 05:03 PM UTC
Hello, as part of our honeymoon in late Jul / early Aug my fiancee and I are going to Provence for about 9 days. Here is our rough itinerary.
The plan is to TGV from Paris to Nimes, then go to:
* Nimes (stay overnight)
* Arles (stay overnight)
* Les Baux
* Avignon (stay 2 nights)
* Chateauneuf-du-Pape
* Orange
* Cotes du Rhone winery area, e.g. Le Crestet / Suzette (stay overnight)
* Vaison la Romaine
* Carpentras
* L'Isle sur la Sorgue
* Gordes (stay overnight)
* Roussillon
* Aix en Provence (stay 2 nights)
* Cassis / Les Calanques
* Marseille (stay 2 nights)
Back to Paris on the TGV.
Any thoughts on where to see, where to go, where to avoid, where to stay? Thanks for your help. I'm going to put this on some of the other Provence city boards.
Thanks,
Ben

Zaha hadid // Pierre Vives...architecture in Montpellier Posted: Mon February 25, 2008 09:39 PM UTC
Hello,
I stumpled upon an article that stated there would be some kind of futuristic building combining sports and a library in Montpellier, which would be built by one of the best-known architects in the world.
Those were plans from 2006 which stated they'd start the work really soon, but I can't find any news on this. Are they building this right now or did they have to discard their plans?
merci

cycling around Posted: Mon February 18, 2008 08:33 PM UTC
My 12 year old daughter and I would like to spend a week in late June cycling and camping in this area. Is this a good idea? What is the best way to get to Carcassonne from Ireland? And is it easy to get a train to Paris or Amsterdam in early July?

public transport Posted: Wed February 13, 2008 04:15 PM UTC
Hi, I'm planning a trip to stay in Boutenac - a tiny village near Carcassonne. Unfortunately none of our group will be quite old enough to hire a car so I was wondering what the bus and train systems are like? Are there frequent buses to various places or is everything by train (our nearest stop being Lezignan-Corbiers)... I really hope there is or we may have to change our plans.
Thank you.

Place to stay near Carcassonne Posted: Sun February 10, 2008 02:16 PM UTC
We are panning to stay around Carcassonne from mid July. We don't want to drive. Is there a small town with rail or bus links to travel about?We have looked at a lovely rental in Caunes but I don't think there are any direct rail/ bus links from there.

Carcassonne at the end of March Posted: Sat February 9, 2008 03:41 PM UTC
We have planned a 4-day stay in Carcassonne at the end of March (Easter holiday), and we plan to visit the main attractions. In addition to the La Cité, we had hoped to do walks around the area.
Could anyone recommend good routes for long/short walks? Also, will the weather be OK and pleasant enough?
THANKS!

Weather in June Posted: Fri February 8, 2008 09:33 AM UTC
I am planning a 3 week trip this summer to the Carcassonne area. We found a great place but it is only available during the month of June. As we had rather disappointing weather last summer, we want to be "guaranteed" of nice weather this time. Actually this is, apart from the region itself, one of the reasons to drive down south so far. Although the statistics on the various weather sites are quite OK for the month of June, I would like to be sure that June is not just too early for nice weather in the Languedoc-Roussillon. Of course nothing is so unpredictable as the weather, but can anyone tell me his/her experiences on the weather in June.
Thanks!

home stay/nanny Posted: Wed February 6, 2008 08:26 PM UTC
My son will be going to a university in Montpellier beginning this fall. He will be there for one or two semesters. Colin is looking for a family to live with. He is 21, an education/vet science major, does not drink, smoke, or eat meat. Colin currently goes to USFQ in Quito, Ecuador. He is absolutely fluent in Spanish and English. He can teach baseball, or basketball to kids. Is willing to exchange child care/tutoring for a realistic room and board situation. He really wants to live with a family and participate with the parents and children. He does not just want to be in a room that a family rents to him, if you understand my meaning. Thanks for your help.

Working in France Posted: Tue February 5, 2008 08:03 PM UTC
Hi! I have been working in Spain since august. When i arrived i could speak no spanish at all and now, 5 months later and after fairly extensive studying i am on my way to fluency and loving it. However, i have met a french guy who wants to return to montpellier and for me to join him. I would love to go, but would i find work when i got there, speaking only english and spanish? is french an easy language to learn and what is the climate??!! I'm not able to make a 'fact finding' mission as the transport between here and montpellier is very expensive and i would struggle to get time off work so i would either have to do it or not.
Thats a lot of questions to ask, sorry!
