| Bolivia | villazon-uyuni and villazon-tupiza, buses? Posted: Fri April 25, 2008 06:15 PM UTC
Hi, I've read that the only train which makes Villazon-Uyuni leaves at 15:30 I'd like to know if there are buses or any transport to reach Uyuni or at least Tupiza later that time since I think I won't make it to the border earlier...
Hola, lei que el unico tren de Villazon a Uyuni sale a las 15:30, querría saber si hay autobuses o algún transporte para llegar a Uyuni o al menos a Tupiza luego de esa hora porque no creo que pueda cruzar la frontera antes. |

| Bolivia | thirty days in Bolivia with side trip to Cusco and Iguasu Posted: Tue April 15, 2008 09:43 PM UTC
I'm trying to put together a trip mainly in Bolivia; This is what I've come up with so far:
fly to La Paz; overnight 2 nights; fly to Cusco; take 6 day tour incl Machu Picchu, Cusco, Sacred Valley, bus to Puno and tours to Uros and Taquille Island; (looking at Magical Cusco tours); bus or boat to Cocacabana; overnight; tourist bus to La Paz; overnight; fly to Santa Cruz; overnight 1-2 nights; fly to Asuncion; bus to Iguassu; spend 2 or 4 nights; return via bus and plane to Santa Cruz; overnight Santa Cruz; fly Sucre; find a tour that includes Potosi and Uyuni; fly to La Paz; overnight La Paz, 1-2 nights; fly home. I hate the idea of one night here and one night there, but with so much flying I feel like we need to be in the originating city at least one day before each flight. Would it be better to find a tour of Bolivia instead of trying to patch together something ourselves? Any suggestions for tour operators? I have one proposal from enjoybolivia.com that covers most of what I want to do in Bolivia. Coments, please |

I have been in contact and he will run the trip leaving sorata 14th april if I can get a group of 4 people. If you want to look at the website it is http://www.andeanbiking.com/ridesboat.htm. They have a good write up in lonely planet and charge $250 for the 5 days all inclusive (apart from onward travel to la paz, If you wish to fly back from rurenburqe he says cost is $60. Please get back to me if you are interested so I can book. Thanks Sarah |

| Bolivia | Bus service from Uyuni to Potosi Posted: Mon March 17, 2008 01:46 AM UTC
I'm hoping to go by bus from Uyuni to Potosi after a Salar tour. Does anyone have knowledge or direct experience if there are any buses that leave Uyuni in the morning for Potosi? And, if there are, do you have any idea as to roughly what time(s)they might leave? I know there's a 7 p.m. bus to Potosi, but I'm having trouble locating info about any other services. Any and all replies are much appreciated!

| Uyuni | Looking for a tour operator to arrange trip from La Paz to Uyuni and back Posted: Thu March 6, 2008 05:23 PM UTC
Hi VTs
I am looking for a (reliable) tour operator that organises tours to Uyuni from La Paz. From what I've seen, there are plenty or operators offering tours to the salar from Uyuni itself, but given that it is a bit of a pain to get from La Paz to Uyuni (namely rough bus to Oruro, and then train to Uyuni), I was wondering if you are aware of any operators that offer to pick you up from La Paz on their own vehicles and take you straight to Uyuni and then around the flats. My main aim is trying to find an alternative to the current transportation methods linking La Paz to Uyuni, particularly the bus link. Let me know your thoughts please. Thanks a lot RV |

| Bolivia | Need more detailed info on WX in Bolivia in beginning of Feb. Posted: Thu January 3, 2008 10:38 PM UTC
I will be in La Paz, Sucre, and Potosi in the end of January and the beginning of February. I have read the post about the weather this time of year and I have looked up climatic info on the web. Could someone give me a better description of how the weather is this time of year. I see the rainfall charts in milimiters but what are the days actually like this time of year. Is it cloudy all day? Can you see the mountains? Does the rain come in downpours or is it a continuous drizzle? What percentage of the days is it rainy? I will be flying between La Paz, Sucre, and Santa Cruz. Most of my touring will be in the cities and may be out to Copacobana. Any info is appreciated.

| Bolivia | Where to do the Salt Plains tour from Posted: Tue November 13, 2007 03:50 PM UTC
Hi Folks,
I´m currently in Buenos Aires with my girlfriend. We are planning to do the Salt Plains trip in the next few days. We are heading onto Peru so we were thinking of doing the trip from Tupiza. Is this the best option? Also, would it be possible to travel straight by bus from Buenos Aires to there or is it better to stop off in somewhere like Salta overnight and get another bus? I still have not got a grasp of the distance in my head. Any other helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kieran |

| Departamento de La Paz | Flight from London to... La Paz? Lima? Posted: Thu November 8, 2007 09:38 PM UTC
I'm going to be flying from London with the intent to eventually end up in La Paz, but I've heard that flying to Lima and then bussing to La Paz is the cheaper way to go. What is the *least expensive* way I can get from London to Bolivia? I should mention that I am the kind of traveller who can endure any condition of train, plane or automobile for any amount of time. Money is of the essence in this situation. Any and all help is *greatly* appreciated. Thanks!

| La Paz | Take care - border at Desaguadero between Peru/Bolivia still closed! Posted: Wed October 31, 2007 03:34 PM UTC
I just had a very long trip from Cusco to La Paz because I didn´t know the road at the Bolivian side of the border in Desaguadero was closed..!
From Puno to Desaguadero takes 2 hours, and from there only another to La Paz. Now I´ve learnt that from Puno to Copacabana takes 3 hours, and from Copacabana to La Paz about 3,5! I do have to add that it´s annoying me because I´m only on a quick round trip to La Paz and back, but for travelers I do recommend going via Copacabana because it is muuuch prettier and has way more services than Desaguadero. |

| Uyuni | Peru to Bolivia to Argentina Posted: Tue October 23, 2007 12:12 AM UTC
Two friends and I will be traveling down from Machu Picchu, through Puno to La Paz. From there, the highlight of our Bolivian travels will be the salt flats in Uyuni.
We want to stop in Potosí on the way, though. I know that people typically take the bus to Oruro and then the train to Uyuni. What is the transportation situation for going from La Paz to Potosi to Uyuni? After the salt flats we will be traveling up to Salta. I found a train (Ferroviara Andina) that will take us from Uyuni through Atocha, Tupiza, and Villazon). Is this the best transportation? Or, instead of going directly across the border, does it make sense for us to stop in any of the other towns? Sucre? Tupiza? What do they offer? Thanks for your help! -- Rachel |
