| Munich | Taxi to St Moritz? Posted: Sat May 17, 2008 10:36 AM UTC
Is it possible to get a taxi from Munich to St Moritz in Switzerland and will the price be realistic? I have heard that it can be driven in 3-4 hours but I am not a driver. Also the train is not realistic to me due to the time it takes and the number of changes. Advice much appreciated :)

| Schloss Neuschwanstein | Trains to the castle? Posted: Sat May 17, 2008 08:44 AM UTC
Hi
I am travelling from Salzburg to the castle, and was hoping to take a train to Fussen, but on bahn.de there are many options, one of which is: Fußenberg, Wenzenbach - is this the right station? Or would it be better to travel to Hohenschwangau instead? I notice both take a similar amount of time. Also I would like to go to the bridge for a view of Neuschwanstein but have my elderly mother travelling with me (very active but in her 60s) and I do not want her to walk. is there a better way of getting to the top and is it possible to take a horse and carriage? |

| Stuttgart | IKEA Posted: Fri May 16, 2008 07:54 PM UTC
Hello,
A friend wants to go to Ikea in Sindelfingen or Ludwigsburg but dont know how to with public transport, can anyone help? Sindelfingen would be a better option for her, however it seems not so possible to get to without a car. The Ludwigsburg branch is further but when I look on the web, there seems to be 3 buses stopping just outside. Where do these buses depart from? Can she get the bus from Ludwisburg/Tamm S-Bahn Station or Stuttgart Hbf? Can she check the bus schedule somewhere? Thanks! |

| Frankfurt am Main | Frankfurt Main airport and Frankfurt Hahn airport.... Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 08:45 PM UTC
Where exactly is Frankfurt Hahn airport in relation to Frankfurt city? I understand it is more than a fair distance away but what sort of distance are we talking about? It's west of the city isn't it?
I'm checking to see if there are any reasonably priced flights from Frankfurt to Budapest but at the moment Frankfurt Hahn is the front runner. Any thoughts VT members? Thanks DG |

| Lübeck | Wild Camping Ostsee Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 08:30 PM UTC
Hi together,
some friends of mine and me, all from Hamburg, would like to go to the Ostsee one weekend and camp there one night. Preferably at the beach and NOT at a camp site. Is this possbile in your opinion? We know that it is not allowed, but it would still be nice to do it anyways. In other parts of the world noone would care ALTOUGH it is not allowed. This might be different here in Germany I guess. We'd just sit around in the dunes with a keg or case of beer and get the tents up around 1 hour before sunset and take them down again early in the morning. Has anyone done this before? Anyone been caught? We'd come by train and/or bus from Hamburg. Any recommendation where exactly at the Ostsee it might not be so crowded and therefore possible to do this from Saturday to Sunday one weekend? If all of you are strictly recommending NOT to do it, tell me. And which camp site/ where would you recommend then instead? Regards and Danke in advance, Phil |

| Landstuhl | Cars in Landstuhl? Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 04:35 PM UTC
Hi I am waiting for confirmation about a job in Landstuhl to begin July/August for 2 years. Help!? I've heard it's easier to get a car over there but I can only drive automatic. Are they gently used small, reliable cars that are automatic? Anyone have an idea where to look and how much they cost? My job there will require I drive about 1000 miles a month to military families in the areas. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. I am excited and stressed at the same time!!!

| Germany | Weeze Airport to Monchengladbach Posted: Thu May 15, 2008 02:10 PM UTC
I will be travelling to Monchengladbach for the Germany V Wales football match in October. I am aware that Weeze Airport is not in Dusseldorf but are there good transport connection from Weeze to Monchengladbach? How much will it cost? How long will it take? Where would be a good place to stay for a couple of nights, easy route to football ground and close to sight seeing opportunities? Thank you in advance for answering any of the above questions.

| Hamburg | Skydiving Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 05:24 PM UTC
Hi,
does anyone know of a skydiving company operating in (or close to) Hamburg? I tried google, but found myself going in circles with no results. I am looking at the possibility of doing a tandem skydive for my 25th birthday next month and am just looking at costs, etc., at the moment. So if anyone knows of a company and/or website that could help me out, can you please let me know. Thank you, Cassie |

| Germany | Bremen to Dusseldorf Posted: Wed May 14, 2008 02:04 PM UTC
Could you please give me a rough idea how expensive it would be to travel between Bremen and Dusseldorf on public transport? I have cheap flights to Bremen from the UK but it might work out to be false economy if it's expensive to travel between the above cities. (might aswell get a direct flight).
Thank you in advance. |

| Germany | Pay as you go cell phone at Frankfort airport Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 06:56 PM UTC
What is the best option to pick up a European cell phone at the airport in Frankfort - I will be in the Lufthansa terminal. I am looking for a very inexpensive phone with "pay as you go" service, but I want to be able to plug it without an adapter or converter.
I have two options - buying the phone (I want to be able to keep it for whenever I'm in Europe and just add to it) ... or I could keep my phone and just turn it off, and hope it lasts for the week. I do not want to get into a SIM card or the like because I prefer not to have to deal with adapters, etc - to me this is not an option I want to pursue - I'd just like to get a phone. If there are no justifiable options (as far as price) - I'll just keep the one I have with has all the right bands. Thanks. |

| Munich | Oktoberfest without a tent reservation? Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 01:01 PM UTC
Hi,
A group of 8 of us has booked travel and accomodation in Munich for Oktoberfest on the weekend of 3-5th October. All of the tents seem to be fully booked. For any of you who have been before I would love to know: - can you can queue up for tickets? - are there tent ticket touts and are the prices ridiculous? - are there any tents that you can get in without a ticket? We are considering cancelling our flights if we aren't going to be able to get in anywhere, would be like a kid with nose prossed up against sweetie shop if we can't get in there, but all REALLY want to go. Any tips most appreciated. Liz |

| Land Berlin | Good Area to rent an apartment in Berlin Posted: Tue May 13, 2008 10:28 AM UTC
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with my search to find an area to rent an apartment in Berlin.
I'll be in Berlin to do some internship/work experience in September 08 and am wondering where a good area is to rent in for someone on a budget (but not too small a budget)? I'd still like to be fairly central. If anyone could give me some pointers as to where to look for an apartment (websites or good areas), or any other tips, I'd be very grateful. Thank you! |

| Oberwesel | Frankfurt airport (FRA) to Oberwesel Bahnhof - help with train Posted: Mon May 12, 2008 01:57 AM UTC
I have visited http://www.bahn.de/p/view/index.shtml and a couple of questions.
First, it looks like I could purchase my tickets before I leave, and save the time and worry of having change, is this correct? So assuming I'm buying my tickets before leaving (I'm pretty good at keeping schedules): - I entered "FRA" as the choice of originations. Search ended up with two selections from Frankfurt(M) Flughafen Regionalbf and Frankfurt (M) Flughafen Fernbf. Are any of these the main Frankfurt airport? Not sure about Fernbf, the Regional sounds like the wrong Flughafen! - For Oberwesel, would the right choice be Oberwesel Bahnhof? - As far as the train, there are ICE, S,RB and RB - but no train number. I know ICE are the cool white ones, but how do you tell apart S and RB without a train number? I am speculating the train number could surface after you actually purchase the ticket - but so far, no number. How do I know which is the right train? So, any help confirming the right from/to stations and sorting out the train to get from Frankfurt airport to Oberwesel would be appreciated! Thanks! |

| Berlin | Berlin walks tours Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 04:20 PM UTC
I am not the kind of person that likes organised excursions, but I normally enjoy the tour walks. I had been reading a couple of external links of companies that organise them and we may take one (the stadard one) on the first day to give us an idea of the city by walking. I have found it in Spanish at insidetours.(If anybody does know any other company that does in Spanish please let me know!)
But as John Le Carre early books fan, I had always dream in visiting all that places one day (I know, it is not the same LOL)so I looked for more specific tours, but they are all in English. Do you know any company that does them in other languages? (I do not have problems with the english ones, but I prefer if possible in my mother tongue) thanks in advance |

| Würzburg | transportation from Frankfurt to Würzburg and scenic roads to Prague Posted: Sun May 11, 2008 03:02 PM UTC
Hi,
We are flying to Frankfurt on the 5th of september. Our flight arrives at the airport at 21:40, and then we need to travel to Würzburg. I've checked on diebahn.de and have found that the latest trains to Würzburg leave at aprox. 22:00. We won't make it on time to the train since we have to pick up our luggage first. (There's a train leaving at 23.00 but that trip takes 6 hours vs 2 hours for the other trains) I've been trying to find a webpage with bus schedules from Frankfurt to Würzburg but haven't been lucky. Does anybody know how to get to Würzburg from Frankfurt that late in the evening? Also, after our stay in Würzburg we'll rent a car and drive to Prague. Can anybody suggest a route with the most scenic roads? and, do you think the Neuschwanstein castle would be on the way? Many thanks for your help! |
