Hi, We are planing to travel to New York very soon, I am looking into hotels, it is a last minute vacation, can anyone tell me about Hotel InterContinental The Barclay New York.
Basically I am looking for a good hotel, clean, safe,and centrally located.

Thanks so much for your advice, we will be staying form a thursday to a monday, what you think about that, is the only time we have, so we want to take a good short vacation.

The Hotels you mention are suitable, but are you travelling with kids? I stand my my previous suggestions about the Renaissance, Times Square. Right in the middle of everything, fairly reasonable, and loads to do. Great restaurants nearby (and some not-so-great), shopping out the kazoo, right next to the subway, for jaunts around the city. Have a great trip, and tak a LOT of pictures! ;o)

As Seabicuit, I think it is better to stay in Times Square which is centrally located, near to everything and pleasant for kids.

We were lodged in this area in May 2003 at the level of the 47th St such as the Ticketing Stand

At : Quality Hotel Times square 157 W 47th

We had a room for two, clean and with conmfort for 719$ for 6 days through HOTELS.COM

With kids the room must be larger and more expensive but the price seems fair.

Check out www.quikbook.com. They have very good last-minute deals on good hotels. I've also heard of people saving lots by using Priceline - great bargains. For me, the Times Square area is crowded and noisy but I'm a native. The Intercontinentals are usually very nice hotels - the Sheraton at 50 something and Seventh has a pool.

Thanks to all for your help. I didin't know that this hotel (barclay) was far from the main new york atractions, we are into shopping, and into good food, also will like tovisit soho, grenwich village (spelling?) etc.
How about le parker meridien, le parker and the barclay are the only ones with almost 100% good reviews on trip advisor. I read horror stories about others in this $ range.

The Parker Meridian is very nice and has good restaurants, too. If you want to stay near Times Square, the Renaissance has some good summer rates on occasion. Remember that it's easy getting to SoHo or Greenwich Village from almost anywhere in Manhattan. The subways work well and are fast.
