Even though the Hotel Avalade may be Luanda's best hotel, I did not feel we were getting value for money. Even though it is said to have 5 stars, it felt more like a 3 star hotel. Still, the rooms were clean, the breakfast was OK and the security was good. The prices between 250 and 300 USD are far too high, but as there are not many alternatives for western tourists and business travellers, they seem to be able to get enough business. The area surrounding the hotel is not very inviting for walks, especially at night. If you would like to spend time at the beach, don't stay at the Avalade, maybe better stay at a hotel closer to the beach, such as the Palm Beach Hotel. People in the reception are very helpful
It is in the downtown, at 5 minutes by bus from the airport, in a centrically located street near the port. The staffs will help you to change money in the street and carry in suitcases to your room.
