Camp at the roadside south fromThiou by sachara Because we travelled in a small group with our own truck and tents, we made most of the times our camps beside the road. This place was just south of Tiou, the bordertown with Mali. The little boys from the village nearby came to tell us that there lives a snake in that big baobab. At this place the night was very cold, so it's important to bring a warm sleepingbag and warm clothes. In Ouaga we stayed at the Ouaga camping in the south part of the town. Nice for a shower, sleep in a (basic) room instead of the tent after a few days in the bush. Theme: Campground

Le Pavillon Vert is quite a small 'African-style' hotel, which means that many of the rooms have fans rather than air conditioning, and the toilets and showers, though scrupulously clean, are quite basic. The washing basins are also open, so you do your teeth-brushing and shaving alongside the other guests. The hotel is French-owned, but almost all of the day-to-day staff are African, from a number of West African countries. The place is popular with French people working outside Ouagadougou, who love to use the hotel as a base for their R&R trips.
It's got a leafy garden which is one of the best places in Ouagadougou to sip a cold beer. The restaurant is decent, too, and is quite atmospheric at night. Unlike many Ouaga hotels, they are very reliable as regards advance reservations, very useful around FESPACO time. I wrote and faxed four months in advance, and my room was ready the day I arrived (call them to get the postal address; it's a post office box number). Recommended by various guide books this hotel seems to be running downhill a bit. Although the rooms are clean, the personnel helpful, the place has a rather large number of Rastas hanging around, doing nothing. This seems to affect the atmosphere. I'm hoping the management can rectify the situation quickly as it could be a very pleasant(and reasonably cheap) place to stay. Spent a pleasant 2 nights here whilst waiting for a plane to Lomé. Nice, clean rooms and a friendly atmosphere. If you need a cybercafé, there is one on ave. Bassawarga (turn right from the hotel) at about 250 metres.
No pool but a nice garden away from the street where you can relax. The food is also pretty good, but as with a lot of cheaper hotels, they don't carry too many staff, so the cook is also the waitress so it does take a bit of time. I found by ordering first, nipping off for a shower then coming back, that made it seem quicker. But, all round, a place to be recommended. Not very central to the town, but this is made up by the fact that you have no noise. Great for when you're having a cold beer in the tropical garden in the evening. In Gaoua, there are only one or two hotels. We stayed at the Alla hotel, just outside of town, where most foreigners stay. Quite good actually. Excellent food. Some rooms even have air con, the others have a fan. It would be nice though if electricity wasn't cut in the village from 00:30 to 6:00AM ! Theme: Hotel

In Ouagadougou, the most famous meeting place for tourist and expatriates is the Hotel Independence - traditional, colonial style, in the city centre. The most exclusive and highest standard is the Hotel Silmandé, in the outskirts, with swimming-pools and all those kind of stuff some tourist may wish to relax (and be cut away from the country style of life - but this is my personal opinion). In Ouahigouya, no tourist would miss the Hotel de l'Amitié, along the main avenue. Theme: Hotel

I was at the Excellence Hotel May 22-28, 2007. The hotel has added a new wing with bigger rooms, bigger bathrooms, great air conditioning, and much more. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is superb, and there is even room service. Best of all are the prices! We paid $55 US per night for a room with two beds. I have been staying at the Excellence for many years now. My French skills are slowly improving but the staff has been learning English, which is very flattering since they see very few English speakers.
The hotel is very secure and is in a quiet neighborhood. The rooms on the upper floors have great views. We did not swim in the pool but it looked very clean and the staff worked on it every day.
