Laafi Roogo: Accomodation in Ouagadougou

by Giada76

In the Capital, Ouagadougou, a very nice and comfortable pension LAAFI ROOGO managed from young people from Burkina Faso with the help of Shalom Movement in Italy. Very good and safe food, very comfortable bedrooms with shower and mosquito-net on every bed.
They cooked everything we wanted, help us during our stay and gave us lots of advices!

Various: Accommodation quality

by hydronetta

Burkina Faso is not a major tourist destination so apart from major towns like Ouagadougou or Bobo Dioulasso all other places have rather basic accommodation. That means rooms vary in size, look spartan (pity given that they could be easily decorated in african style), mosquito nets may not exist, hot water may not be available! Prices for mid range accommodation that we chose ranged anything between 20-40€ but prices didn't always reflect better quality or value for money. Apart from that price for breakfast is not included in price adding an extra 2.5-3€ per person.
Breakfast consists typically of french baquette, butter, marmelade and coffee or tea (milk supplied in powder)

Excellence Hotel: Excellence Hotel Revisited

by iflykc10s

I was at the Excellence Hotel May 22-28, 2007. The hotel has added a new wing with bigger rooms, bigger bathrooms, great air conditioning, and much more. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is superb, and there is even room service. Best of all are the prices! We paid $55 US per night for a room with two beds. I have been staying at the Excellence for many years now. My French skills are slowly improving but the staff has been learning English, which is very flattering since they see very few English speakers.

The hotel is very secure and is in a quiet neighborhood. The rooms on the upper floors have great views. We did not swim in the pool but it looked very clean and the staff worked on it every day.

Pension Sarah: Nice, cheap and reasonably quiet

by pfsmalo

Spent a pleasant 2 nights here whilst waiting for a plane to Lomé. Nice, clean rooms and a friendly atmosphere. If you need a cybercafé, there is one on ave. Bassawarga (turn right from the hotel) at about 250 metres.

No pool but a nice garden away from the street where you can relax. The food is also pretty good, but as with a lot of cheaper hotels, they don't carry too many staff, so the cook is also the waitress so it does take a bit of time. I found by ordering first, nipping off for a shower then coming back, that made it seem quicker. But, all round, a place to be recommended.

Hotel Comoé - Banfora: Relaxing time after a hard days visiting

by pfsmalo

Not very central to the town, but this is made up by the fact that you have no noise. Great for when you're having a cold beer in the tropical garden in the evening.

Hotel le Cocotier or Les Cocotiers: going to seed

by pfsmalo

Recommended by various guide books this hotel seems to be running downhill a bit. Although the rooms are clean, the personnel helpful, the place has a rather large number of Rastas hanging around, doing nothing. This seems to affect the atmosphere. I'm hoping the management can rectify the situation quickly as it could be a very pleasant(and reasonably cheap) place to stay.

Hotel Excellence: Bestr Ouagadougou Hotel

by iflykc10s

This hotel is new. It has rooms with one and two beds. Also there are six apartments with two bedrooms, a spacious living room, and a kitchen. All rooms have satalite TV and phones. Room rates run from $30 - $50 US per night. There is a restaurant on the premises. Meals run from $5 - $10 US. Security is good with a guard at the main entrance 24 hours a day. I have stayed there three times and I love the place.

All the food in the restaurant is prepared fresh. I recommend the tomato soup. There is a modest breakfast bar with fresh fruit, juice, and bread.

Internet cafe on premisis for a small fee.

CAUTION, MasterCard is not accepted, only VISA and cash.

Camp at the side of the road

by sachara

Because we travelled in a small group with our own truck and tents, we made most of the times our camps beside the road.

This place was just south of Tiou, the bordertown with Mali. The little boys from the village nearby came to tell us that there lives a snake in that big baobab.

At this place the night was very cold, so it's important to bring a warm sleepingbag and warm clothes.

In Ouaga we stayed at the Ouaga camping in the south part of the town. Nice for a shower, sleep in a (basic) room instead of the tent after a few days in the bush.

Le Pavillon Vert, Ouagadougou: A very cheap oasis!

by sarahandgareth

Le Pavillon Vert is quite a small 'African-style' hotel, which means that many of the rooms have fans rather than air conditioning, and the toilets and showers, though scrupulously clean, are quite basic. The washing basins are also open, so you do your teeth-brushing and shaving alongside the other guests.

The hotel is French-owned, but almost all of the day-to-day staff are African, from a number of West African countries. The place is popular with French people working outside Ouagadougou, who love to use the hotel as a base for their R&R trips.

It's got a leafy garden which is one of the best places in Ouagadougou to sip a cold beer. The restaurant is decent, too, and is quite atmospheric at night.

Unlike many Ouaga hotels, they are very reliable as regards advance reservations, very useful around FESPACO time. I wrote and faxed four months in advance, and my room was ready the day I arrived (call them to get the postal address; it's a post office box number).
