Basic but not bad considering
Not quite up to the normal Meridien standards but that aside it is not too bad a hotel which covers the basic requirments.
i found the staff polite and helpful despite other posters noting the opposite i found no indication of rudeness, the day manager especially was polite and helpful.
the pool area is clean and nice with a beautiful view over the industrial zone to the estuary and the mountains behind in the distance. there is cracked tiles but nothing to be over duly concerned about.
both restuarants are average but again not bad. breakfast was very nice and varied in choice.
rooms were again basic, a little dated but again perfectly functional. slight mildew in the bathroom as mentioned by another poster but with the climate and the humidity this is more than normal and was only slight.
there were no issues during the stay and it appears to be frequented by the major flight crews.

Comfy chain hotel
Depending on what kind of travelling you're doing, it's always good to know what to expect from a hotel you book. Le Meridien hotels are a well known chain of hotels and the standard here was as you would expect of an international hotel chain.
I remember it being well situated, pretty central to a few places in town and it had an OK bar, rooms are comfy and its got everything you would expect, including a business centre for internet use and email retrievals.
Unique Quality: When you're pool side and you ask for a pineapple juice, the waiter goes and gets a pineapple and juices it.
The main area in the hotel is quaint, there is a good bar inside and its generally clean, even if you're going to look around for somewhere else after, it generally makes a good start point to get your bearings, I'm not aware of any guest houses or B and B's in Douala, Le Meridian was certainly comfortable enough to stay in for a week or so, though it maybe a bit more on the expensive side than somewhere more local.
