Capitol Hotel: Acceptable Moderate Priced Accomosations
I spent four nights in this hotel in Summer, 2010. It is under the same ownership as the hotel of the same name in Buea. Although not quite as nice as its Buea cousin, it is a perfectly acceptable hotel with a pretty good restaurant and a small bar. My room could have used from fresh paint and a new bedspread, but the AC and plumbing worked and the room was clean. The hotel is conveniently located on a major street not too far from the center, but there is nothing of interest and few restaurants in the area. If you stay here, be sure to ask for a room on the back side, as my room on the street side had a lot of street noise.

Jet Hotel: Overnight near Airport in Comfort
This modern and pleasant motel is just minutes from the Douala airport. The rooms, bathrooms, restaurant, and amenities all approximate developed world standards, and the price is reasonable. Everything you would need for the night before or night after a flight is here: restaurant with long hours, money exchange, multilingual staff, and free shuttle to the airport. On the other hand, this is not a place to spend more than a night. It is on a highway some distance from the center, and there is nothing of interest within walking distance.
I revisited this hotel for another night in 2010 and found conditions more or less unchanged, Things are a bit shabbier, as no major maintenance has been done, but things are still fine.
