Hotel Oasis Atlantico Novorizonte: Not well classified

by mendti

The hotel is classified as a 4 star, nevertheless the real rating is 3 star. For a 3 star hotel it is acceptable, but for the price you pay, the service you get is horrible.
It is a quite old resort although you can see it was renewed. Nevertheless things around still look quite ugly.
We went for the "All inclusive" pack, which is a total lie. Only some items are inclusive (for example alcohol is payed separately, not that is matter for me because I'm not much of a drinker).
Food is nice dough (fresh fish) but it does not change a lot.
Besides this, there is no free Internet access, you have to pay for the safe box rental, the snacks between meals are very limited and the same every day.
The service is quite bad, and despite some very friendly staff, most of them are very unfriendly and incompetent.

RUI HOTELS ON SAL: IT MAKES ME SICK

by DAO

ClubHotel Riu Garopa & ClubHotel Riu Funana are the same hotel. Despite having 2 entrances, receptions and names, it’s still the same 1400 room resort. I bought this holiday and was told it was 4 stars. They put 5 stars on their front door and don’t live up to it. What’s wrong? I and everyone I spoke to had upset tummies the whole time. They just leave food out much too long. It’s mostly open air dinning and it is hard to keep the flies out. The problem is that they keep warm food out forever. I saw them putting out food (covered) for lunch at 9am one morning at breakfast. The food is also mostly fried rubbish and their theme restaurants need to be booked up to a week in advance! Hard to do on a 1 week holiday! The worst is that there were always empty tables in the themed restaurants but they never let you use them. They do nothing to control people who routinely book and don’t show up.

What else is wrong? The beds are twin beds put together and they are not that comfortable.

What is good? All you can eat and drink (alcohol), massive beach, great pool bars, rooms are well equipped, lots of beach activities and the weather is great.

I’m glad I visited Cape Verde, but I wouldn’t stay here again. Next time I would stay in a cheaper hotel in town and save the money.

So why ‘2 hotels’? The local government told the RUI Company they could not build a hotel with more than 700 rooms. So they built 2 side by side. Now they are building a new one and destroying the north of the island of Sal.

• All inclusive
• Great pools (towel policy sometimes enforced)
• Theme restaurants (if you can get in)
• Excellent beach and facilities/activities
• Nice grounds
• Lots of cats (if you like cats)
• Library/book sharing

Hotel Belorizonte

by MFAMILY

Directly on the beach, within walking distance of the town of Santa Maria do Sal, in my opinion in need of some refurbishing, but ok for a beach holiday.
There's a hotel building and also some bungalows. Two pools and two restaurants, one by a pool, the other by the beach. Sports facilities on the beach.
The food is not superb, but still good. Service is slow, though, but that's part of the spirit of the islands.
There's a sister unit right beside it - Hotel Novorizonte, newer, but with the same type of facilities.

Abel Henry Borges - Rooms: Peaceful accommodation

by Otrebor

Three rooms. Ours was a quite big room with a big a bed and a small one. Two doors: one on the street and the other one on the courtyard's house (quintal or patio). The house is typical. The owners are lovely and they speak French currently. Breakfast in the morning outside with homemade papaya jam. There is a cat and a dog. The toilet is not private and there isn't hot water.

You are immersed in the real African life.

Santa Maria Beach Hotel: Do not go there

by BombayGin

We were prebooked and had vouchers for Santa Maria Beach Hotel and when we got there, we were bundled off to Pensao Nha Terra as the owner had over booked his hotel. He shrugged his shoulders, offered not much in a way of explanation and we had no choice of where we were going or what else we could do to resolve this. It was even more frustrating as we had to leave the lovely and friendly Morabeza Hotel on Christmas Day to end up with a bad experience with Santa Maria Beach Hotel. This could have been avoided if the owner wasn't being greedy and over booking, hoping to make a quick buck. He even admitted putting other hotel guests in his own house and said it was perfectly normal to overbook. It's a case of a hotel owner not being able to say no. Avoid this hotel, as you're not guaranteed a roof over your head even after paying for your accommodation.

Pestana Tropico Hotel: Not a bad place to stay

by eetrapnoel

Everything that the island lacked, the hotel made up for. Very clean, spacious rooms, TV, A/C worked great, 115V in bathroom, mini-bar/fridge, wireless internet is offered (pay), salt water pool and kid pool, nice staff.

The breakfast (included in room price) was outstanding, had a little of everything.

Hotel Morabeza: A legend in Sal Island

by tere1

This is one of the oldest and best known hotels in Sal. The hotel is in need of renovations but still retains its old charm. Rooms are a bit basic, with an unappealing decoration though comfortable.

There is a large swimming pool, a bar, but the best of the hotel is its beach and the Beach Club, the restaurant overlooking the beach. The food there is very good, though breakfast is a bit frugal.
It has many sports facilities as well as an archery camp. At night there are usually local dance performances at the hotel.

The hotel is close to the village, Santa Maria do Sal.

A: "Mindelo is in my opinion the most attractive town in Cape Verde. Nice town by the sea with colonial buildings and a pretty decent local nightlife."
