Hotel Belorizonte
by MFAMILY
Directly on the beach, within walking distance of the town of Santa Maria do Sal, in my opinion in need of some refurbishing, but ok for a beach holiday.
There's a hotel building and also some bungalows. Two pools and two restaurants, one by a pool, the other by the beach. Sports facilities on the beach.
The food is not superb, but still good. Service is slow, though, but that's part of the spirit of the islands.
There's a sister unit right beside it - Hotel Novorizonte, newer, but with the same type of facilities.

hello. i'm about to go to cape verde, to a resort in Sal. i've heard some negative critics on this forum... what can i expect from the Sal Island? does it have good facilities, night life, any cultural must-see places? has anyone stayed in Belorizonte/Novorizonte? thanks.

I've always stayed in Belorizonte and Novorizonte.
The "older" Belorizonte is Novotel type. Pre-fabricated bungalows, good location. They're nice to stay. The new Novorizonte is more confortable.
Cabo Verde is one of those places that you love it or you hate it.
I go every year, but not to Sal anymore, too much hotels for my taste.

You can change euro's into escudo's evrywhere in Santa Maria.
In the bank, in many small cambio- offices in the centre, in hotels.
At the airport is a also changing-machine.
