Hotel Zoser: Close to the Pyramids and the Sphinx of Giza
by jf41
The Hotel Zoser on Pyramid Road outside central Cairo provides reasonably priced accommodations in a very comfortable hotel very close to the Pyramids and the Great Sphinx on the Giza plateau.
I spent ten days there and I was very pleased with my choice.
The staff was polite and helpful. One early example was my room selection. Having read in advance of the noisy traffic on Pyramid Road, I sent the Zoser an email requesting a room facing the courtyard.
Shortly following my email, I received a polite and informative email confirmation telling me that they would be pleased to fill my request. Their email also provided me with detailed information about how best to reach the hotel from the airport.
The room itself was good size with a comfortable double bed, large, comfortable pillows and adequate closet space for a one person.
The bathroom, was large with a full shower and tub and an ample supply of large towels.
Everything was spotlessly clean.
Double sliding doors opened up from the bedroom to a balcony overlooking the courtyard pools providing a very pleasant view day and night.
The AC worked well and was appreciated even in mid-November.
The room price included daily buffet breakfasts offered up through 10:00 AM. It was one of the largest spreads I've seen in some time.
The breakfast buffet included tahini and hummus, various meats, a several cheeses, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, several fruits as well as numerous dry cereals. There were at least six different types of rolls, muffins as well as other breads. They also served juices, and all the teas and fresh coffee one could possibly want.
It was almost enough for the entire day.
The dinners I tried at the hotel restaurants were adequate, nothing more. The price of a glass or two of house wine at $8.00 each plus tax, can quickly inflate your bill. If you are slightly adventuresome, you can dine for much less at one of the many local restaurants.
With the incredible Cairo traffic, the trek to the center of Cairo can be a long ride.
As previously mentioned, the hotel is on the very busy Pyramid Road. Only the locals or brave hearted Westerners dare cross it on foot.
You will pay for making even local calls from the hotel phone.
Positives: Room and bathroom size, cleanliness and the bountiful free breakfast buffet. Also, there was no language/communication problem.
Negatives: The ride to the airport or downtown Cairo proved to be much longer than expected, again, due to the seemingly incessant traffic congestion.
