All about the views

Although considered a separate hotel, the New Cataract Hotel is part of the same establishment as the Old Cataract Hotel, run by Sofitel. It was built as an annex on the grounds of the original hotel during a time when aesthetics mattered least. This ugly construction, in my opinion, does not complement the beauty original hotel in any way and serves only to block its southern views and sun! That said, the New Cataract Hotel itself has stunning views of the Nile, and likely much better than its older counterpart. Unfortunately, this is currently its primary trait, for the interior of the hotel looks more like a 1970's hospital ward. Yes, everything is from that era. The other advantage to staying here is being on the grounds of the Old Cataract Hotel and using its amenities (at a lower cost), such as the restaurant, bar and swimming pool. I stayed at the New Cataract because Old Cataract was fully booked, but I must confess I thoroughly enjoyed the views overlooking the Nile and Aswan from my private balcony (see attached photo). For this reason, I would consider returning to this hotel.

great deal

Rooms are modern, clean and everything worked. Balcony gave gorgeous view of ruins across Nile, Cataract, and lovely old hotel. If you stayed in the old hotel you would look out and see the much more austere new one (yuck). Access to the same gardens (lovely), pool, terrace, dining rooms. Easy walk into town or to the Nubia Museum. Great location.

Unique Quality: The gardens were elegant with many blooms in December.

A room with a view

Enjoyable. The rooms had a wonderful view at $30 extra! But well worth it.
Room service a bit slow- up to 2 hours late.
No safe in the room , and minibar not stocked.
Otherwise I'd recommend it.

Unique Quality: Pool great though not enough loungers always available.
Next to the famous Old Cataract Hotel which is full of atmosphere and sense of history.

The NEW Cataract Hotel is much cheaper

Pretty basic hotel in a plain building right next to the very expensive Old Cataract Hotel. Make sue and get a room on the side facing the Nile or you'll wind up with a view of a littered alley. The side facing the Nile has wonderful views of the Nile, especially if you're on the upper floors.

Unique Quality: Much less appealing than the Old Hotel but you can use the excellent pool and all the services of the Old Hotel.
