Accommodation- you can't beat free!

Stayed at this brilliant little place having signed up to do my open water diving course at the hotel diving centre. Was amazed to find they offer dormitory accommodation, breakfast and internet free to those diving with them. I believe they also offer a hefty "divers discount" on their private rooms too. Dorm accommodation was good, clean and the overall location was absolutely perfect- bang in the centre and right on the beach. Staff also couldn't be more friendly and helpful. Take Hany the receptionist on all your souvenir trips- you'll have to wait an hour while he argues but you'll get whatever it is for the correct price!!

Unique Quality: Now has 100m2 pool for those who find the sea too salty. Their 20 bed brand new sea/pool view complex is free with breakfast for those diving.

How easy is it to go from Dhahab to Petra?

by sc780913

My friend and I will be leaving our tour group in Dhahab and hope to travel to Petra. How easy is it? I believe we will be at Nuweiba early morning and was hoping to spend less than 2 days before we have to be back in Cairo for our flight. Is this possible? Help? Thank you.

In theory yes, very possible. In practice these days, due to a very heavy demand on the ferries at the moment, you might get stuck in Nuweiba and / or Aqaba. The fast ferry is now operating twice a day to meet the extra demand but still it is not enough. I guess it will depend when you want to travel. Check out the website for the ferries... http://www.abmaritime.com.jo/main.html

The other alternative is to go through Eilat and then onto Aqaba. The border between Egypt is supposed to be open 24 hours a day but the crossing between Israel and Jordan is supposedly closed from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Another alternative would be to do a day trip with say Longwood Holidays who a a bus & boat trip via the Taba Heights jetty.

Petra DOESN'T have an airport.

Travel Tips for Dhahab

Windsurfing

by MalenaN

Not everyone comes to Dahab for the good diving, but some come for windsurfing. As there is often a wind in Dahab it is also a good place for windsurfing. Close to the Lighthouse in Masbat you can rent equipment and often there are a few windsurfers there. But another place which is good (better) and which is visited by many windsurfers is the bay south of Dahab, just by the hotels Swiss Inn and Hilton. The better you are the further out of the protected bay you can get.
