More about Calimera Royal Diamond Beach
We stayed at the Callimera Royal Diamond Beach Hotel between 15th May to 29th May 2008, it was our 1st visit to Egypt which included my wife and 2 year old child. The weather is incredible (Guaranteed) and the hotel was very clean as you would have hoped. The food was ok and generally there was somthing that we could pursuade our 2 year old daughter to eat each day. The pool is great and the staff generally are very good we did however have some unfortunate incidents!
There is a Health Spa on site and you are pestered every day to purchase a massage or have a trip etc, while attending the health spa we had some money and jewellery stolen from the lockers, also from our room we had some gents trousers stolen. Taking these incidents out of the holiday and it would have been a good relaxing holiday. The evening entertainment is poor so look to make your own entertainment if visiting, only other item to be careful of is Namm Bay! which is Blackpool with Sun and if you have females with you they are like flies around xxxx! so be careful, not a place young girls want to be walking around on their own!
On average a decent 4 star hotel and would possibly try again.
Was nervous about sharm,but.
been back a week now and just realised we had a good time as I was so nervous about egypt as a whole.I also read all the other reviews to pick this hotal, and found the reviews quite accurate.
This is a 4star+ hotel, but to be honest you cant grumble as for the money its great. Booked a sea view room for myself and a girl friend (two single girls), only when I looked out it was more of a view of the back of more rooms, so with a little whinning , they showed us another which was pool view but also had a better view of the sea, so you may just ask for main pool view, be carefull as there are three, but it seemed the worst views are reserved for the Italians(road). after chatting to them they got the worst deal, paying near 600 for full board no alcohol. yes this hotel is mostly Italians but thats what makes it better, they dress nicely and would rather be on a beach with them than a load of russians any day!. everyone speaks amazing english, and if you are single the italian men are a huge ego boost!, yes the egyptian men can be annoying but generally just tell them your not interested, but enjoyed many hours talking to them in shops as we found they are so borred. Please take every currency as they accept..euro big time, dollar, sterling and change up there. if you want a good spot on the little beaches, ask the attendant to save you them, slip him a 50L.E , he's worth it. (germans up at 5)Food ok, it got better as the week went on and use the resturants as they're good.Naama bay ok, depends, all the shops are the same. Dont go over dressed to clubs, nobody does, though u may want to. Hard rock is a big rip off. Two water parks, went to smaller (cleo park) good day and not too busy. dont change up a lot, you wont spend it.Barter with cabs as they will rip you off, it is officially 110 L.E to this hotel only. All in all I would go back, my botfriend would love the diving, maybe upgrade to a better hotel, but for the price this is all you need, enjoy.
This is the 4th time we have been to Sharm and the Calimera is a lovely hotel. It does however cater for Italians more so than anyone else - the food is Italian as are all of the entertainment staff and there were only another 8 English couples in the hotel when we stayed.
Don't let this put you off though as all of the entertainment staff speak English (as do all of the hotel staff) and the food is very nice with a fantastic selection available for all meals. They also have an Italian Restaurant, an Indian Restuarant and a Seafood Restaurant on the complex which I believe are all available at an additional cost (extra for those staying on an AI basis) and although we didn't try them, those that I spoke to did say that the food was excellent.
They have 2 swimming pools, the larger of the two is the 'active pool' where there is always something going on and the smaller one is for those of us who like the quiet life. You do get hassled by the Spa staff who approach you on average 4-5 times a day asking if you would like a massage or various other treatments and this can get frustrating but a polite 'No thanks' normally gets rid of them.
The hotel staff are very polite and friendly and the rooms and the grounds are immaculate.
The hotel is not suitable though for disabled people, those who dislike walking or those who have an aversion to hills as the hill in between the large pool (where alot of the rooms are based around) and the main restuarant and bar is a fair trek (especially in 40 degrees!)
There are a few shops just outside the main entrance to the hotel (within the complex) and they sell English newspapers, chocolate, crisps, lilo's etc plus there is a jewellers and an perfume / oil shop.
Outside of the main complex there is a supermarket just up the road (about 3 minutes walk away) and about 7 minutes walk away is the Il Mercato Shopping Mall. This mall includes Virgin, Quiksilver, Reebox, Timberland, Mothercare, Levi, Claire's Accessories stores (amongst others) and a Starbucks, Costa Coffee, KFC, Pizza Hut, Burger King and McDonalds. There is also an ampitheatre type seating area with a plasma screen in the middle which shows cartoons etc.
The hotel is about a 10 minute drive from Naama Bay and the hotel also has its own small taxi fleet which will take you to and collect you from Naama Bay at a pre-arranged time for £3.50 each way which is great and saves you haggling with the local taxi drivers.
All in all, its a lovely hotel in a nice area and I would certainly recommend it.
loved every minute
got back yesterday. wow! the people that have salgged off this hotel must have been staying in a different place to where we have just been.
firstly the hotel itself is lovely , all bu the front of the hotelis finished now , once you walk into reception and you go out to main hotel area you forget about the building going on and to be quite honest i didnt even notice it at first.
the people that work there are lovely and could not do more for you. you dont have to tip them but we did give the odd few 5 egyptian pounds and i have to say that even without doing that they never faltered once.
the room that we stayed in 1090 was lovely everything about it was it wasnt massively huge but comfortable nicely done and homely. lovely balcony aswell and right outside the front door was the non active pool.
yes there is alot of russians, germans and italians but i have to say the only time thay bothered me was on the last night when they were playing poland in euro2008.
the sea is magnificent and well worth snorkelling by the hotel . okay the beach is hardly a beach but while we were in egypt we visited other hotels and they are all the same .
The active pool gets busy but only with people laying on sunbeds which you get anwhere but had a really cool swim up bar .
Restaurants - i cannot fault the food one bit being a fussy eater i thought i was going to be condemned to chips everyday but there was only one day when chips were actually on yhe menu. excellent choice of fish, chicken, pasta everything you could ask for. every night they had chefs cooking various meats on a bbq.. the range of bread and fresh fruit and salad they had was amazing.
indian restaurant welll worth a visit we payed 250 egyptian pound and you got loads.
the italian restaurant is similar to the main but with a few more italian choices.
Fish restaurant on beach i never went to as am not a lover of fish but was supposed to be lovely.
As for the staff hassling people - i can honestly say i dont agree with that. yes they asked us abou massages and i had it done but just be cool dont get shirty and they will leave you alone. if you do - the cleopatra massage is a must have absolutely divine.
if you do leave the hotel moses mountain excursion is well worth it incredible view and cheaper to book out of the hotel.
the ras mohammed snorkelling trip was by far the most excellent thing that i have ever experienced
quad biking - personally i hated every minute of it but the desert is extremely hot and i just dont like the thought of falling off.
at the end of the day we went on holiday for a good time and thats what we had if you are somebody that moans every minute then i would advise you not to even go to egypt. its not the hotel that cause the problems its the egyptians themselves especially in naama bay . i have to admit that is the only downside especially when whenever you step out the hotel they are calling you baby spice and saying that your partner is a lucky man it can get massively annoying but thats what makes egypt egypt i suppose.
I would reccomrend this hotel to anyone and everyone and i would definately go back.
just one last bit of advice you r body temp is 37 degrees so if you eat then lay out in 50 degree heat youll get sick it is nothing to do with all these theories on egyptian belly. On sat i had lunch then sat in the sun for 3 hours and i am suffering for it. Dont underestimate the sun out there it is baking .
ohll and by the way there was nothing wrong with the entertainment either.
chill ot kick back and enjoy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We booked this hotel online and were really looking forward to our first trip to egypt,on arrival at sharm airport we had to go and find our so called rep from bright sky travel who promptly took our accomodation voucher off us and did a dissapearing act into the crowds outside the airport,on arrival at the hotel we were shown to room with no veiw and not the room we booked, after a long arguement with the hotel managher we finally were given a room with a pool veiw, apart from a couple of waiters we found the staff rude and slow.
If you are english we do not recomend this hotel as it is full of germans, french, italians and russians and all the entertainment is in gibberish! the entertainment team( !!!) do not even bother to speak to the english and if you attempt to speak to them you get dirty looks.
This hotel despite what has been said on here is still in the middle of a building site and building work is still going on in the hotel grounds and outside.
The only good sides to this hotel was the clenliness of all the areas and our room.
we stayed at this hotel from the 18th may to the 29th may. it was a lovely holiday staff are really helpfull nothing to much trouble we had a deluxe beach front appartment it was amazing. we did suffer from ants in the room on a few occasions but they sorted it out quickly. The food is great lots of choice. You can eat in the indian for a small charge and it is lovely we recommed it. pool staff are very helpfull just give them a little tip and they will put towels out for you every day. find Beckem he is either round the pool or on the jetty he is lovely and speaks really good english in fact they all do they love the english. Their is alot of Italians but they are ok we had a very relaxing honeymoon and would recommed this hotel for a good relaxing time it is very clean the cleaners are wonderfull and allways on the go sied was our cleaner he was great . remember these poeple earn as little as £80 mth so do tip them they look after you anyway even if you dont. will definatly go back again to this hotel.
very poor service
Stayed at the Callimera early June. The hotel was nice and the room was nice. Their was no entertainment and the food was rubbish. Very limited and poor. The service was very poor and the staff our arrogant unless you are German or Italian. Very few English and never given the time of day. It was the worst holiday i have ever been on and will never go back to this hotel again.
Not a good experience at the Royal Diamond
I would not normally think about reviewing a hotel however I have just returned from a 12 day break at this hotel with my family and my friends family. On a positive note the hotel is extremely clean however our accomodation was incorrect on arrival e.g. a family of 4 squeezed into a room that clearly was designed for 2. This problem was caused by the agent in london but the hotel reception staff were extremely unhelpful and in actual fact extremely rude. The pool bar staff were also rude and often chose to ignore my children especially when they asked for crisps and peanuts. The entertainment is at best poor and generally fcuses on the italians staying at the resort, the buffet style meals I would say are slightly above average.
In summary because of the rudness issues I experienced at this resort and comparing with previous trips to Egypt I would not recommend this Hotel
honesty is the best policy
this is an honest opinion about most aspects of the hotel. First of all lets point out that this is primarily an italian (Going 1 one) hotel with a sprinkling of german dutch english russian and french. Previous comments about rude people was not evident and most queued politely for drinks. The look of the hotel may be 5 star but the food takes it down to a maximum of 3 stars
Like most English people who take a back seat it may seem that the activity team aren't interested in you. This is not the case
they love our involvement. I played water polo volleyball etc with all nationalities and only noticed slight tension between germans and italians. The explain everything in 6 languages
Night time entertainment is watchable but lacks variety and they need more time to rehearse. The hotel has a dive club on the beach which we took full advantage of. The diving was ace and the staff ,Nick, Jenny and Lucy were excellent instructors. Cost per person for 4 day open water was approx £260 including manual. This is the place to learn if you fancy it
hotel and grounds
The reception and bar area are spacious and well air conditioned. The best rooms are around the main pool if you dont mind the PA noise during the day the hotel looks clean and fresh and gardens are well maintained. The main comment is that you have to climb cardiac hill to go for dinner, breakfast etc. The beach is shale not sand and quite small but the walk out onto the pontoon allows a good view of some nice fish and excellent snorkelling. (fish love bananas) The hotel roof top is home to a bar and "indian retaurant" with a lazy sofa area and pool table. This is all outside. The hotel has three pools. A large activity pool and non activity pool near the restaurant and a small pool near the entrance to the hotel. Due to the need for an umbrella and beds you must get up at 7am to guarantee them. This means beating the germans and italians!!
All staff are men, no women in sight!. Most bar staff are happy chaps but service is sometimes slow. You will notice behind each bar is an" orange shirt" these are bar managers who make sure that non all inclusive pay for their drinks. they are a waste of space and dont earn a penny. They are ignorant and even if the bar is busy they wont get their hands dirty. Staff at the swim up bar are slow and you had to get out of the water and walk to the otherside of the bar to get served. Whats the point of a swim up bar i ask if ya cant get a drink? Pasta chef and egg chef and always busy in the restaurant whereas the other staff and slack. this is reflected in the food which i will cover in more detail.
The pools staff particularly Beckham are helpful and they will find you beds and throw towels off sunbeds were no one has been seen for an hour. This is a hotel rule. management at the VIP spa are ignorant and dont deserve your business. However, the actual masseuse is excellent and the massage is worth the money. Avoid a male that patrols the pool called Luka from the Sinbad group selling watersports and excursions. He is a born liar promising 30 -45 minutes for each activity where you only get 10 minutes. Dont be fooled by him or his team of thieves. We got our money back after negotiation
the rooms are spacious and well appointed and so they should be as they are new. However the bathroom is slightly tainted and starting to look old. this applied to other rooms we saw. All contain small balcony etc and a water fountain on the corridor outside. Rooms are cleaned well and well presented when ya return. just leave the air con on to keep it cool
temperatures in the day ranged from 30 to 40 degrees and even 37 degrees at night not a cloud in the sky
this is where the hotel falls way below standard. as a result of which we were both ill or 2-3 days each. They operate a barbeque outside but when the sun disappears so does the light. Cooking in the dark results in raw/undercooked chicken, fish, pork etc. the food in the main restaurant buffet area is kept in food warmers which are not warm. Cold food =dodgy stomachs and sickness. The puddings and ice cream are good
The so called italian restaurant is a smaller version of the main buffet. The indian restaurant on the roof is outside and quite dark. The food is much better here alhough it does lack an indian taste and paying 15 euros each is cheeky by the hotel. This should be free! the snack bar at the beach is adequate with fresh cooked pizzas and reheated fries. they also serve seafood at an extra cost of approx 25 euros each. dont bother!
even though we were all inclusive we ate out on a number of occasions cos we were bored of the same food.
If you have any problems in the hotel go straight to the manager and tell him how it is. he is pretty good at sorting things
A Good Hotel
About me I have travelled to Egypt 6 times now 5 to sharm and I know what to expect. I have stayed in in hotels such as the Grosvenor House in London to youth hostels. I would class my self as well traveled and this will be a balanced review based on my experiences of this hotel. If there is a problem with something tell them don’t leave it and then complain. There are many people on here that right reviews that are not fair in my opinion. Remember that in Egypt things are different it is a Muslim country and it is poor. Enough about me here is the review.
Spacious, well furnished with massive comfortable double beds, with fridge and SAT TV. Air con works perfectly and if you have a family room each room has separate air con. The bathroom has a good sized shower area and reasonable sized sink/toilet area. Drinking water is provided on each landing in the form of a communal POW WOW type dispenser, a careafe is provided in each room to carry water. Family room consist of living room area for children with a bed and or sofa bed, which totally separate from the master bedroom.
The hotel is on many level's and as has been said before not suitable for thos with walking difficulties. Leading from reception is the lobby bar which is nice and cool with aircon through out the building. Leading down from the lobby area is the main restaurant with seating outside, there is also a smaller one leading up with an outside area.
Lobby bar open 24hrs drinks available on AI from 10am - midnight, between these midnight and 10am its chargeable.
Roof bar, opens at 8pm and closes at midnight, this is an open air bar which is lovely at night.
Pool bar at the main pool can be very busy and sometimes your drinks take a while.
Main Pool is huge with most people heading there. There are plenty of sun beds and sun shades providing you get there before 10am. This pool can get noisy if you are sat in the wrong place next to the Animation team which is geared for all the Italians. I was glad to see that topless was not tolerated at all and women were asked to cover up! It is a Muslim country...
Small pools of which there are 2 are a lot quieter and one has a bar with no alcohol and the other has an unfinished bar which i think will serve the same as the main pool.
A very helpful from the moment you arrive until you leave. Nothing is to much trouble and if there are problems (i.e door locks breaking) they are fixed with in minutes! Pool boys are very helpful and a $5 dollar tip at the beginning of your stay goes along way.
All AI hotels are repetitive and it is here, however the food is good and well presented. There is always fresh meat being cooked at lunch and dinner outside from steak to kebabs. If you cant find something to eat here there is something wrong with you. GENTS TROUSERS FOR DINNER ARE A MUST. I saw an Italian refused entry with 3/4 trouser. He tried and tried and got turned away.
The Good and bad
All in all this hotel is good, would I stay here again? Yes. There are few annoying things like no tea making in the room. Some rooms are a long way from the main pool. The hotel taxis are very reasonable 35le to Naama 110le to the airport. Considering the price to stay here on an AI basis you won’t beat it in my opinion.
Any questions please PM me
