More about Coral Sea Imperial Resort Sharm El Sheik

Coral Sea Imperial Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member BMay01

Fantastic....what more can I say? We returned yesterday from a fabulous week over Christmas at the Coral Sea Imperial and have to report that we had a great time. Having booked the Conrad Hilton we were disappointed when we found out about the name change in November/December, and just a little apprehensive, but we needn't have been....
The hotel is lovely. Everywhere is spotless, but the thing that impressed us all was the staff of the hotel. They were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The Animation Team were brilliant - loved the relaxing music which was played at around 10.00 a.m. every morning.
One of the highlights of our stay was a boat trip on Christmas Day to Ras Mohamed with three stops for snorkeling and lunch included - a great way to spend our Christmas. Just sorry we won't be there for New Year!
We only have one negative comment to make in that we felt that some areas of the hotel did look a bit tired, the health club was one of these areas and in particular the jacuzzi which could definitely do with a complete re-tile!
That said, we would recommend this hotel for couples and families (including families with teenagers - like our own). Please pass on our thanks to the hotel and staff for a wonderful holiday, hope we can come back soon!

New Year at the Coral Sea Imperial

by TripAdvisor Member RedlandBristol

We have just returned from spending New Year at the Coral Sea Imperial.

Before we went, we were informed of the hotel's change of ownership and were concerned that this might affect standards. This was not the case as we were more than happy with the hotel. We did not expect the ultimate in 4/5 star luxury but we found the hotel's position was perfect, cleanliness was good, staff were very helpful and friendly, food not brilliant but more than edible and suitable for varied tastes (and none of our party were sick).

On New Year's Eve the hotel laid on a fantastic gala dinner and African themed show in a specially erected marquee. All we can say is WOW, this is not a hotel in decline. Throughout our stay we were often asked if everything was ok by everyone from room cleaners, restaurant managers and front desk staff. They are all there to please.

Agree with earlier comments relating to the Cabana Fish Restaurant. It's a waste of time, we too left before the dessert and went into the main restaurant for food and free drinks!

Would we go again? Yes, definately, but not with First Choice!

money

be careful when using credit/bank cards in egypt as if you use a card more then three times it call up a security alert in hte uk and blocks your card and it is damn expensive to ring up a call centre to try and get it sorted. Also you can only change travellers cheques at the banks. We found we did not need local currency they prefer sterling especially pound coins we stayed at the coral sea it was lush

Good relaxing break

by TripAdvisor Member querolasolespa

We stayed at the Coral Sea Imperial over the christmas week.
When we first arrived the hotel was fairly quiet, so we were
glad when more guests arrived over the next few days!!
Our room was great, very clean and well decorated, bathroom was fully stocked with clean towels daily and the room was by the smaller heated pool, with drinks available at the pool bar which was really good.
The Pharoah restaurant was closed, so we eat in the Tiran buffet all week and have no complaints about the food there, some days were better than others, but the food was fresh and there was enough choice. However, we were dissapointed that outside of the opening times of the Tiran, there was no where else to get snacks, (unless you order room service), which we paid for on three occasions as we were hungry and there was nothing except for drinks available in bar areas.
The Cabana restaurant was good, apart from the fact that you had to pay for drinks to eat there which was a suprise as the drinks were all inclusive everywhere else. We were not impressed by the Italian restaurant, we were told it was fully booked so we had to go at an allocated time and when we did go it was pretty much empty and the food was honsestly worse than the Tiran, the guy then ran after us at the end to make sure we have paid for our drinks.
The beach was good relaxing and nobody hastled us, the water was lovely and we seen the fish right up by the shore which was really cool, there was more than enough sun loungers available and the hotel grounds were also beautiful. We enjoyed watching the stars late at night.
We went on the Red Sea cruise trip (our 1st time snorkeling)
it was windy when we went which was unfortunate, but we still seen some beautiful fish and it was a good day out of the hotel.
The hotel also made us a breakfast bag free of charge before
we went on the trip, which was also nice.
The alcohol wasnt the best, we werent expecting anything too great as it is not the culture in Egypt to drink so we brung a bottle of rum from duty free, which i recommend if you like drinking spirits. MoHammed at the bar was lovely though, and he made us special pina coladas which was nice, the staff were very welcoming and looked after us both at the bar and in the Tiran restaurant, they had a good sense of humor as well.
There was also a huge effort made for christmas time, which was brillant, decorations and entertainment and a special nite at the Tiran restaurant with christmas foods and lots of desserts.
On my boyfriends birthday, we also had a suprise cake delivered to our room (which we hadnt asked for) this was a really nice touch, and the love hearts and swans made from towels by the cleaner was really nice.
On leaving, we were charged an incorrect £40 for the minibar in our room which was annoying as we had not taken anything from
the fridge during our stay, this took an hour to sort out but eventually it was resolved, but we got no appology and it wasnt the best leaving gift!
Overall, there were little special things that we enjoyed about the hotel and other things that werent so great. It was our first time in Egypt so we didnt know what to expect. We did have a lovely week and the best thing about the hotel was the 'relaxation'
the staff were friendly and the entertainment was good enough.
Having been on an all-inclusive holiday before we were less impressed by the services offered at the Coral Sea, but the value wasnt bad for a week in the sun.

Great holiday

by TripAdvisor Member joandana

We have just returned from our 4th visit to the Coral Sea, (formerly the Conrad Resort), and had a terrific time. We were there over Christmas and New Year and the special arrangements for both events were magnificent, especially the New Years Ball. I believe the hotel has the most helpful and hard working team in Egypt who do their absolute best to ensure the guests have a wonderful time. The Animation Team really got the party going by getting people involved and later producing some good quality sketches for our entertainment. I have looked at comments made in the past about certain complaints about the hotel and could find none that were valid, in my experience. If you need anything, all you have to do is ask and it will be available. We will certainly return and have no plans to go elsewhere in future; we know we are on to a good thing.

fantastic time

by TripAdvisor Member harwood508

Visited coral sea in november for my 40th and we had a great time, we had 2 rooms that had a fantastic view of the pool, sea and tiran island, they are very spacious and have all you need, hairdryer, fridge, safe etc, if you like a cup of tea in the morning before you go for breakfast take a travel kettle as there isnt one and they are expensive to hire one, the cleaner was in every day changing sheets and towels and did a great job.
We ate in the tiran restuarant every day and there is plenty to choose from, i think the reason people get bored is they try to eat a bit of it all so it seems boring. The staff were so friendly and we miss you Fatty (faramawy fathy sayed). It was my 40th and they made a special cake to which they bought to me singing and banging drums it was so special...
The pool was just great the animation team got the children and us sometimes !! involved with all the activities especially Romeo, Mark, Ronny,Tamer,Tamtam,Ali, and Kimo, missing you to.No need to take towels for beach or pool as they have good towel sevice. Thanks to Wael.
The sea is alot warmer than the pool and the fish are amazing, make sure you take an underwater camera.
A word of warning if you have children, two of mine had an reaction to the henna tattoo when we got home and is looking like its scaring.
We will definatley be coming back.
The Harwoods.

Fantasic Holiday...Fantasic Staff...couldnt ask for more!!!!

by TripAdvisor Member SophieAkhtar

This is the second visit to the hotel since july 2008, and im already planning the third one back. First time i went, hotel was known at the Conrad Hotel. That name is much preferred, however everything within the hotel is still the same. This is a private hotel in middle of nowhere, however, there is a private beach right down the steps of the pool. even though the beach is private, it is a stretch shared with a couple other hotels....

Went to this Hotel as enjoyed the first stay and wanted to re-live same experience i had but with my family as it was sisters birthday. met by first choice reps, however, the reps have changed. did prefer the reps in july as found the first choice reps not helpful, which put me off booking any activities with them. however, if ask around, you can get some of the activities cheaper (for e.g the camel ride and horse ride via omars riding club, and boat trips via aruarius...you can find these people around the big pool/beach...)

within the hotel, you can find lots to do...for e.g. you got the gym, internet access, pool/snooker room, club, entertainment from animation team. you also have some shops in the hotel which include bag shop, photo shop, phone shop, gift shop and mini market. you also have 24 hour doctors but dont call unless really need as it is expensive. and you would need to worry bout changing your money, as there is a atm maching which converts english notes into egyptian for you which was hand, and also acceptscards. if you want to visit the shops outdoor but do not want to go into town. when you walk out like you are going to the beach, and take a left, you will find a small alley with shops in, but be careful and the guys out here will harass you to go in, whereas the ones in the hotel are not allowed to harass you, however you cannot barter with them either....

food and drinks are served from 7am in the mornin up until 11 at night. it is all inclusive, you got a few different places to eat however they do have opening closing hours. but if one is closed, they do serve food/snacks by the pool and by the italian club. drinks are served inside hotel by the reception, pool side and within the restaurants. they do vary the food every day. this includes alcoholic drinks too tip:- im morning ask the waiters for water bottles as the water comes in handy throughout the day....there are only 2 restaurants that you can only go into by booking, and can only go once, but you arent missing out. the cabana is in a nice location however very dry, they dont serve with sauces so very dry and you prebook for either a meat dish or seafood. also have to pay for drinks and i didnt bother going to the pizza place. when you arrive at the hotel, you do get a list of opening times.

in regards to the rooms, asked for beach view which we got, but it wasnt the best view. so if want good view ask for beach and pool view....rooms were decent. has own hairdryer. if want ironing board and iron just ask at the reception and this is free of charge.the mini bar is not free and anything brought you will pay for at check out. cleaners cleaned room every day and done a great job.if room is occupied they call room and ask if want it to be cleaned and even book a time to come in. they even tidy up you things around the room which i liked too!!! :-)

entertainment is put on everyday from the animation team... which i got to say is fantastic.they cater for all ages and try and get everyone involved. entertainment is done in english too. evening entertainment starts with mini disco for the young kids, and then everyday there is something different being put on,from bingo,to quizzes to competitions, to dancing, drama/comedy even an egyptian wedding!!!! the entertainment in evenings are done by the animation team who do a fantastic job and also cater the morning entertainment. morning entertainment takes place outside the bigger pool and has different activities like darts, stretching, football, tug of war, sports day, basketball, and table tennis. the animation team do not get as much apprieciation from management for all the hard work they put in throughout the day, but are loved by alot of visitors and are the reason why alot go back. this time round, the animation team included the fantastic and lovely Kimo, Romeo, Mark, Ronny, Tamer and TomTom. they do come around and try and get you to participate in activites but you can say no if want to, but need to realise they are just doing their job when asking and want everyone to enjoy their time.however if you are looking for a more quite time, there is the smaller/heated pool by the pirates club where all is quite all the time :-)

night life, they do have the pirates club onsite, however the dj is not the best and is still playing the same cd from last time. if this is not you cup of tea and feel as though you want to hit naama bay, the animation team organise and supervise night trips into naama bay. you pay for transfer to and from the club, entry into club and also a drink. each night is something different apart from sundays which they go to the pirates club. they normally take you after they finish evenin show about 11.30 and come back about 3am...

also onsite there is a sheesha place which closes at 1am (drinks are not free in here) and on the beach there is snorkelling. even paragliding. even though snorkelling didnt appeal to me, this place is in the top 5 in the world for snorkelling.but maybe one day i will do it.....

definately a fantastic holiday and resort. cannot imagine staying anywhere else, 2nd visit classes you as a V.I.P and the more visits you do, the more they do for you. your 10th visit is commeseratedby a your name written on a tree for life!!! only 8 more to go woohoo!!!

the staff are definately the reason why i would go back as they were very friendly throughout my whole stay and work very hard. especially the animation team who entertain you from10am in the morning till 3am the next day 7 days a week. with out certain animations, it will be boring and definately not the same, i know its hard but i hope you all get to meet kimo, romeo, mark and ronny. well done guys, keep up the fantastic work, and would see you all in the new year....!!!

oh yeah and another thing, if you want to go out and about yourself, the taxi onsite are expensive and you cant barter, however outside the gates they got the normal taxi's which you can barter with.as long as u go for a price, be confident and stick with it, and they thhink you know what you are doing, you can even take there taxi number and phone number and get them to pick you up!!!

Fantastic Christmas Experience

by TripAdvisor Member HappyHelen40

Booked through First Choice. AI resort. The drinks a bit limiting as I am diabetic, loads diet pepsi but no other diet drink. Did query this and was given "special permission" for Sprite Lite just for me. Great Rum & diet pepsi & Brandy & Sprite Lite. Wine not so good!
Animation team were funny. Great during the day with entertainment, no pressure if you didnt want to join in but made to feel very welcome if you did want the odd game darts/ volley ball etc. Evening entertainment could have been better although there were hilarious moments and everyone did mostly enjoy the shows.
We went for christmas and it was fantastic, Santa arrived on christmas morning on a camel and went to both pools and along the beach, giving out pressies to all the kids. Really well trimmed up and the xmas eve dinner was stunning.
Weather fantastic, snorkling from beach excellent.
Hotel staff were also fantastic, very helpful and courteous.
Bit far out but good shuttle bus to Naama bay everyday. No hassle around the resort

The land of the burning sun

by piiap

"Diving, diving and diving"

I love scuba diving and as the Red Sea is my closest and most affordable coral sea, I find myself here a lot. I like the sun, the weather in the autumn and spring and the friendly people. Unfortunately all are not that friendly, there is a lot of hassle, dirty streets and mentally dirty people around, too!

"Environment"

Unfortunately the Egyptians care very little about environment. And it is not just the poor and uneducated Abdulla in the street, it is also rich and well educated people. (Read: scruple free investors).

A very good example is the way they keep building seaside resorts right on the beach. In many cases this means drowning the costal reefs in cement and sand. There is no places for turtles to lay eggs and well, instead they build golf courses and green areas right on the seafront (hey, Egypt is desert... a golf course is NOT suitable here). To keep all the green alive they have to bring the water many hundreds of kilometers and add a lot of fertilizers or ... well, gray water. This ends up in the sea... and again, kill the reef. It make me so sad!

The newest example of this bad practice is Marsa Alam, where big resorts are popping up along the coast like mushrooms after rain.

Bad and corrupt politicians let this go on, and well, I heard rumors that someone in the government sold off the Giftun marine park to an Italian invester... and now the last free beaches in Hurghada will be drowned in pink hotels and cement. SAD so SAD!

by gasgull

Hi I know about the visa situation when staying in sharm, but does anyone if we stay in sharm but go out on dive boats wether we would need a visa, also anyone stayed at the Conrad lately,How was it? many thanks

RE: Sharm visa when diving/conrad sharm

That question is a bit tricky, but I would think that as long as you're with a local Sinai tour/diving group and don't go ashore anywhere else than on Sinai, then you shouldn't need more than your Sinai passport stamp.
