More about Jaz Mirabel Park
lovely hotel but had stomach cramps!
We have just got back from the Jaz mirabel park. We were meant to be staying at the club tropicana, but as it is not yet finished we got moved to this hotel. We really did enjoy our stay, but we did get an upset stomach, we are not sure what caused it because everywhere seemed clean, we didn't eat the salads, or have ice in our drinks! but everyone at some point suffered with it! but despite this the weather was lovely, our room was the biggest we've ever stayed in, the staff are very friendly and the pools are clean and there are plenty of sun loungers. We would reccommend going to the chinese al a carte resturant the set menu was lovely. Overall I really enjoyed my holiday it was very relaxing, just a shame about the stomach bug!
P.S. please tip the staff as they only earn about £30 a month and they all work very hard!
Great hotel shame about the stomach bugs
Just arrived back on the 10th JULY. We booked the Jaz Mirabel Club, however when we arrived we were upgraded to the Jaz Mirabel Park. There are 3 hotels the Club, The Park and The Beach. The room was great especially the bathroom, there's plenty of room and the bed and the pillows are the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The aircon was excellent.
The food was great and plentiful with a different theme every evening. The service was exceptional. The hotel is very clean the cleaning staff are constantly cleaning. I've never seen staff work so many hours. The pool bar is great for lunch having the choice of freshly made pizza, pasta or sandwiches. The drinks are of very poor quality soft drinks are warm and the spirits and wine is like lighter fuel, being a keen wine drinker this was very disapointing the cocktails are no better. The beer was from bottles and served in halfs. Although you can use all the facilities of all hotels you can't eat or drink there unless you pay. The mini bar isn't free my teenagers ran up a bill of £60.00. You can get free bottles of water in the bar upstairs take them to your room and fill up your mini bar with them. Being a muslim country the supermarkets dont sell alcohol I would advise you buy a bottle of your favourite tipple in duty free. Theres pleny of shops for gifts on the complex and a couple of supermarkets.
Unfortunately I caught the dreaded sharm belly on the 2nd day starting with stomach cramps, I continued to have these cramps for 5 days, taking all the british drugs I took with me however not even strong pain killers worked. Don't even bother taking any imodium either as that doesn't work you need egyptian drugs for egyptian bugs. It's not food poisioning as most guests in all hotels get it. Eventually after 5 days it of sickness I went to the pharmacy on the complex I got tablets for the stomach cramps and antiseptic tablets for the sickness and diorhoea. Don't wait like I did for 5-6 days get the pills at the moment you get the cramps as the rest of our party got it and the magic pills worked immediately. It didn't spoil our holiday the people were lovely, our waiter that looked after us all our holiday took us in to narma bay after he'd finished a 12 hour shift, he paid for the taxi there and back and negotiated prices for us as we wanted to buy jewellery.
Tipping is a bit confusing as different people say different things. We tipped £5 per week as we were there 2 weeks to our maid, the bar man at the pool bar and our waiter we paid this in Egyptian £50.00 note. They will really look after you and have your drinks on your table waiting for you.
Trips were great too although very expensive. All in all we had a great holiday lovely hotel. Shame about the sharm belly.
Very very good
We had a great week at the Jaz Mirabel Park.
If you are looking for a relaxing time with children particularly, book this hotel. If you intend to spend lots of time in Na'ama, and are interested in lively nightlife and shopping, then don't. It is quite far from any action (20 minutes from Na'ama which is easily accessible via minibus and taxi but it would add up!) and right at the northern end of Sharm development.
For us, 2 adults and 2 kids aged 9 and 11, it was absolutely ideal. The whole resort is all inclusive and though you are limited to dining in your own area of the complex (there are 3 parts, Beach, Park and Club) you can still eat and drink at the Beach Sand Bar and the Reef Snack Bar near the beach, until 6:30. The food at all the restaurants (except the 3 a la carte which are outside of the all inclusive) is exactly the same, and is plentiful and of decent quality. The all inclusive was very generous indeed and I usually had to tell the staff to stop bringing me drinks!
The Park is particularly good because of the waterslides -- 5 of them, open every day from 10 am - 12 pm and 2 pm - 5 pm. There are lifeguards at the top and bottom to ensure safety and they are great for children and adults as well!
The Park and Club are particularly suitable for families, as pretty much all the rooms are family rooms with 2 sleeping areas separated by doors. We had originally booked into the Club but got upgraded to the Park on arrival (?) I'm not sure if the Club was full or something but the upgrade was very much appreciated as it's just that little bit nicer. I did wonder if they were trying to put more English families into the Park as there were plenty of them. Our kids weren't interested in the kids' club but a word of note - there is basically no kids' club now at the Mirabel Park. There used to be one, and there is still technically one available at the Beach but it is a German run company which is specifically aimed at very young children. We were told by the Egyptian staff that there used to be a French run club which has since stopped, and there is a move to get an English kids' club as the English presence at the hotel is increasing all the time. My kids were not at all concerned as there is so much to do. There were LOADS of children there; always a game of water polo, water volleyball, ping pong, football, etc to keep them occupied; great for us but if you are a young couple, without children, looking for a romantic break you may find it a bit manic!
Sunbeds no problem. No need to reserve, plenty available all day.
My 11 year old did a PADI course at the dive centre on site which was very well run, and priced about the same as other PADI dive centres in the area. The main instructor there is English, though the centre (Mister Diver) is Italian. They do their shore dives in Sharks Bay, about 15 minutes away, but it was very well integrated with pool dives and theory in the resort in the morning with sea dives in the afternoon, so my son was able to use the AI facilities throughout.
The staff at the hotel were absolutely great. We did tip, but it never seemed to be expected, only appreciated.
The snorkelling from the hotel - it's a VERY long wade out to the reef (bring your reef shoes!) and is only advisable when the wind is down and you can't see the breakers on the reef. Even better is when you turn left at the beach and walk along the little road to the unfinished Louis Tiran - go past the fence at the water and go about 200 metres around the headland until you get to the cove - this is not a hotel beach area (yet!) but don't worry, there will be other people there and the snorkelling is absolutely superb - the corals are pristine and the variety of sea life is amazing. Much better than other areas in Sharm that we saw.
All in all a fantastic, relaxing family break.
We are just back from a great week at the Mirabel Park Hotel.
The hotel was very clean and the staff were very friendly. The room was basic but again, clean and spacious. The bathroom was great, a massive walk in shower which was lovely. We found the beds comfy and nice and big. All rooms look over the pool area which is nice.
The pool area was lovely and again spotlessly clean, plenty of sunbeds for everyone.
The park is a short walk to the beach but not too far and although we only went to the beach once it looked like a nice beach.
Food at the hotel is not great, you wont go hungry... but, for the quality of everthing else in the hotel the food seemed to let it down a little. Having said that though the dining area again was spotless and the food although not brilliant was edible and appeared to be as fresh as a buffet style could be. When I say not brilliant I mean choice not quality of food hygeine, that seemed to be fine!
The hotels entertainment didnt appear to be the greatest, although in fairness most nights we sat on our balcony and watched the world go by.
The hotel is under a flight path to sharm airport but it never really caused a problem, aircraft noise was not really noticable.
Tipping the staff.... we tipped all staff at the end of our stay, we had an excellent service from all staff cleaners, waiters and bar staff, they did not need tipping at the beginning of the holiday in order to get a good service from them.
The only real critisism is the management of the minibar, it is not included in the AI price and they tend not to check it everyday and then seem to add stuff on when they feel like it. We along with another couple were presented with questionable minibar bills. If you are going to use it keep your own record of what you take from it and query if it is different to what they say.
All in all an excellent holiday in an excellent hotel with excellent staff. We would go back to this hotel and this area.
Use your room safe
We have just arrived home from a week long stay at the Mirabel Park. On the whole the hotel was very good. Clean & well staffed to keep it this way. The bar staff were very attentive, the pool area was good - plenty of sunbeds etc. The hotel has a 4* rating but I would say the food is not up to this standard.
We were having a fantastic, relaxing holiday until the day we went on a trip to Cairo. It's an early start leaving at 4.20am ( which I have to say is well worth going on). We had been charging our ipods over night & so didn't think to put them in the safe before we left. When we returned at 9.30 that evening we realised they had been taken from our room along with the usb adaptor for charging. We reported this immediately & were told it was too late to do anything that night but it would be looked into the next morning.
We had a meeting with all the relavent staff the next morning - managers, security, hotel rep & were told that from the card reader that the only person to enter our room during the day was housekeeping (housekeeping suprisingly were not present). Fantastic, was our response, at least we know who took the property but no, the manager basically said our property should have been in the safe,& as the room hadn't been broken into, it was our word against theirs. Samir the Thomson rep was a great help, he was very supportive. We said we had a crime commited against us & wanted police involved. He arranged a translator to meet us at the police station but, beware if you have property stolen, when you go to the police they will try to get you to say you lost your property for the report which you ned for insurance purposes ( presumably this keeps crime figures down). We refused & were told we wouldn't get our report unless we said we had no suspect as it would take time to investigate & by then we would have left the country. We came to a compromise & said the property went missing from our room, the room wasn't broken into but we had no suspicions who took it!!
This has left a very sour taste in our mouths & has changed the way we remember our holiday. One bad apple has spoilt what had started out to be a very good experience
Fantastic hotel with excellent service
An ideal base for a relaxing holiday with the friendliest hotel staff ever!
We had a family room for the 2 of us which was very spacious, clean and comfortable with a lovely pool view and a large balcony.
The restaurant was excellent with a large choice of food that catered for everyone - even a very fussy eater like me! the staff were good and although sometimes you had to wait for a drink this was not a problem as soft drinks, water, pop and larger are all also available self service so a good idea to fet your first drink and use it to reserve your table while you get your lovely food.
night-time entertainment was the same as most all inclusive hotels however they had some traditional dancers which was good and the animation team also put on shows although we did not watch them as were quite happy having a drink in the upstairs bar and being entertained by the bar staff who couldnt do enough for you - drinks ready as soon as you had finished and free crisps!
the daytime animation team tried hard and the water polo games were good fun and enjoyed by all - again everyone was very friendly.
the service at the pool bar was excellent and you could have free ice creams throughout the day.
Never a problem getting a sunbed at anytime of the day and quite often we would be the only people in the pool (the very cold pool!!!)
the snorkelling at the beach was not great as it is such a long way out but the walk to the small bay by the louis tiran was well worth it as the fish were amazing.
Water slides were great but watch the steps near here and in fact all the tiles around the pool as it was very very slippy.
loads of books in the towel hut if you need a book.
i was not ill during our 11 days here but my husband did suffer with a temperature and upset stomach, however i believe this was sunstroke and not due to the food as it was very hot.
we left the hotel only twice once to go for a walk to the 2 malls and to be honest it was probably not worth it as you just get fed up with saying no thankyou and the second time we went to the english bar at the jasmine centre and i didnt think much of it and would not get back. you can get most things you need from the shops across the road (which you can get to easily if you go through the tennis courts) or you can use the shops in the mirabel beach where the staff are less hassily but the prices are higher.
all in all i could not fault this hotel and compared to other all inclusive hotels we have stayed in both in egypt and other countries the service was by far the best, the rooms were great and reception was impressive - i really cant complain about anything - which is unusual!!
Well what a wonderful place, and wonderful people, We arrived back early yesterday morning, The hotel its self was spotless, The staff all wore uniform which made the hotel look even more organized, and smarter.
On arrival we were the only lucky ones on the bus staying here so after a 5min check-in. We were taken with our cases by buggy to our room which was a family room with two bedrooms on the ground floor which we requested. The bell-boy showed us how to work safe etc. We then wandered up to the bar and met the staff. Very nice lads. Adel, Raddy, Mohammed.
In the morn the sun was shining through by 7.00am. So this was it. Now to start holidaying.
Breakfast starts at 7.00am til 10.30am and has everything you could need. Pancake and waffle station, egg station.
We always did lunch at pool bar which was serving lunch from 12-6pm. 9-12 they served late breakfast. Alchohol was served from 9am, bit early for me.
Lunch in restaurant was served about 12.30 -3.30,
Dinner in restaurant was 7.00pm-10.30pm.
Entertainment was more or less every other night. cuban dancers, salsa night, belly dancer, and english singer. other nights animation put something on in ampitheatre. What a row.
Hubby went to cairo with fayed travel, exactly same trip as thomsons right down to lunch on nile. thomsons was £155.00 hubby paid £110.00. If there are a few going that is a big saving. We also booked Red Sea Cruise and saved £11 each it all adds up. Quad bikes were amazing we booked these down on the beach £20 per single or £25 for a double. Thomsons was £35.
Went to naama bay which is 30min run in shuttle bus which was £4.00 return and has to be booked day before. Naama bay is all lit up bit like blackpool. Didnt go again was not that impressed we were quite happy staying near hotel.
Beach was nice enough, its a good 15min walk through sister hotel Mirabel Beach hotel. There are 2 bars down there were you could drink but didnt serve food. You could get food from mirabel beach hotel pool bar but you would have to pay for it. But if you intended to spend day on beach, you could get packed lunch from your own hotel and take with you. This would have to be booked the night before. We ordered 2 lunches but found 1 would have been ample. you got 1 cheese baguette, 1 ham baguette, 2 peices of fruit, 3 pieces of cake, 1 bottle of water, 1 carton of fruit juice.
The beach only comes up to your shins for about 1/2 mile before you can snorkle, there is a small area which is buoyed off for swimming but that is only waist high..
In all we had a fantastic holiday and we are definitly going back.
Fab hotel but beware of the stomach bug!
We returned yesterday from 2 weeks at this hotel. The hotel itself was fab.....very clean, staff were very friendly and the rooms/pool areas were lovely. The choice of food though was quite poor! Out of the 3 mirabel hotels I thought this was the nicest, even though its smaller than the beach resort.
Beware of the stomach bug though. apparently its at every hotel in Egypt but a lot of people at this hotel had it including me! It spoilt the first week of the holiday as I ended up getting dehydrated from the bug and so had to have an IV drip (not what you go on holiday for). Luckily the bug only seems to last a day or 2 but it can be quite painful. Unfortunately nobody knows what causes it....if you happen to have it go to the pharmacy on site and they'll give you what you need as imodium doesnt seem to work!
Overall we had a lovely holiday and i would definately recommend this hotel if ur thinking of going to egypt...however we would not return to egypt in the near future due to the stomach bug!!
Nice weather shame about the bug
Returned yesterday 22/06/08 after 10 nights stay. It took 3 days for my husband to develop the stomach bug, 4 for me, went to the Pharmacy for tablets which work for the days you take them, as soon as they are finished it came back again, the stomach cramps are the worst. We couldn`t plan any trips as you didn`t know how you would feel on the day. I had read all the warnings, drank plenty of water and kept off the salad , ice etc, but it doesn`t work. Quite a few people were struck down with it whilst we were there.
The food , I agree with another recent review, was very limited and bland. Some days the best thing was the bread.
The Hotel itself it is very nice, clean and spacious. Rooms are very large, plenty of room (also had two spare beds to get away from snoring husband)
The staff are very helpful and maybe a little too attentive at times, gets a bit overpowering and you are wondering if it`s just for the tips! Beach and weather great, but not going back.
USE YOUR SAFE!!
if you stay here make sure you use your safe!! I had a mobile phone stolen (Sony Erikson K850i) worth £250 and several items of clothing were taken from my parents wardrobe. All of this appears to have happened on the last day a few hours before we were picked up and so did have enough time to sort the situation. Although the management appeared to be helpful they basically blamed us and said that this sort of behaviour does not happen in their hotel, which is completely false. They would not accept the word "Stolen" they referred to it as lost.
If you book with Thompson dont bother ringing the 24 hour helpline because nobody will speak to you.
A great majority of the people in the hotel were suffering from what seems to be food poisoning and we saw one couple walk out of the a la carte restaraunt as their starter was covered with ants!! We also so a waiter emptying his nostrels into what we were expected to eat.
Also, be aware of the mosquitos as a lot of people had their legs covered with bites.
Apart from all of the above the weather was fantastic and the bar staff were great, they could not have been more helpful.
