  • We had the chance to stay at the Moevenpick over the Easter Holidays with friends with children. What can I say? The hotel is perfectly adequate. It will not get your pulse racing. There is an 18-hole golf course nearby that is fine if you are a duffer and you want to get into shape ahead of the season, but you likely will not want to book your golf vacation around this single course if you are a serious golfer? Same for the tennis courts. Very nice, but it is hot, so I am not sure you will want to play in the heat of the day. I thought the fitness room was quite nice. One thing upset me. We had a late check-in and a late check-out, except due to rooms needing to be changed, we had to leave our room early on the day of departure, but were told we could shower and change in the fitness room where the saunas and steambaths are located. Of course, when we actually wanted to use them, they said we could not. Eventually they relented and at least let us shower before our flight home. Same for the hotel bars and restaurants. On the last day it was a pain. The hotel wanted us to pay our bill, but then we had to pay cash or use our credit card during the day at the restaurants and pool bars. Some could not accept cash. Some could not accept credit cards. I mean seriously, it is a Swiss hotel. They should get their act together. Either allow full late check-out including use of all facilities during the day of departure or at least set-up all your bars and restaurants to accept cash and/or credit cards.

Actually it really pisses me off when a hotel brags about how many bars & restaurants, etc. it has and then when you want to use them you cannot. Three of the restaurants advertised were actually all part of one large restaurant where you could not escape from the cheesey nightly entertainment and families with their children. The outlying bars and restaurants were closed at night. Great, no choice whatsoever! A buffet gets really old after a few days. A nice quiet evening away from the masses would have been worth paying a little extra for. Also, wine is very, very expensive. Bring your own! A cheap table wine costed $50-70 per bottle! Ridiculous in a country where the average monthly wage is less. Those quality of wines should really not cost more than $20-25 tops. They retail for $5-10 in the supermarket! The bottled water, too. It is the desert. You need to drink a lot of water during the day. Bottled water in the hotel was expensive. You are not allowed to bring your own into the hotel even though in Namma Bay it costs much less. Same for beer. I hate hard currency hotels in inexpensive countries that make life so much more expensive than it should be including clipping you on the exchange rate between Egyptian pounds and US dollars. Hidden costs + extra profits for the hotel = unhappy guests!
