Lovely Setting
by LisaMJ about Kanabesh (on the beach)
In Naama Bay, there are 2 Kanabesh restaurants. I think they are under the same management.
One is along the main stretch of King of Bahrain St and has a streetside setting. The other, which we visited, is on the beach.
The tables and chairs are laid out on the sand on top of huge rugs so you aren't getting your feet sandy. The cooking station is also on the beach, and everything is cooked fresh to order.
A network of lanterns, multicoloured glass roofs and woodwork covers the restaurant, making it a wonderful setting for dinner, with a candlelit atmosphere.
We liked this restaurant so much we visited it 3 times. If you arrive after 8.30pm, you may have to have a table a set up at the edge of the restaurant area. No big deal, but we preferred being more in the centre of everything.
The food is international, and really good value. For starters there are various soups, salads and mezze available, starting from £1. For main course, there is a mix of steak dishes (£5-£7) chicken dishes (£4-6), pizzas (from £1.60 and which are on a seperate menu which you have to ask for), some vegetarian dishes: vegetable curry £2.50, vegetable gratin £2.50 and a wide range of seafood from £3-£7 which was very popular and many people were ordering.
It's nice to be able to see your food being cooked to order, and you are sure to be warmly walcomed by the lovely owner/manager "Woggy". He is most proud of his restaurant, and treats everyone with the utmost respect - the same way which we treated him. We chatted about Cairo where he is from, and his love of Sharm El Sheikh. Despite liking spicy foods, we really loved the Pizza served here. For £1.60 you'd get a magharita pizza (or any other pizza from their menu, upto about £2.50) which was approximately 12" in diameter. As far as pizzas go, it was delicious.
Thats not to say there is anything wrong with the other dishes we had. The steak portions were generous and cooked exactly how we asked. They came served with either rice or chips.
There was a large drinks menu, and we would normally have a bottle of Obelisk red wine at a cost of around £8. The total bill including taxes would be anything from £15 - £25 for the 2 of us. Approximately 22% in taxes is added to your bill.
There is a good dessert selection too, and Woggy was kind enough to make the creamy Movenpick vanilla ice cream and cappuchino we had ordered complimentary.
So, although there are various restaurants along the beach, and I'm sure most of them are very good, we very highly recommend Kanabesh.
Genuine egyptian food, in local style
by campg about Abou el Sid
Went to Abou twice in a week, comfortable,cosy and relaxed atmosphere with lovely "inner"-decoration details;
Might perhaps regret the lack of presence from the staff underwhile and after diner, but who wouldn´t enjoy so fresh & tasty food, served in generous proportions, and a very much needed quietness compared to all the others dining options..
Extremly reasonable thinking of price, too!
(Do remember that the egyptian government claims 10% extra taxes -wherever you might choose to eat, -or only to drink!-, and some places do eventually add "service taxes" (=waiter tip) as an usual 12%.)
Price example per 14/12-2009: 1 salat (enough for 2 to taste) + 2 main courses+ 1,5 l. water: about 21 Euros. Beat that!
Others restaurant recommendations (well aware that my friend and I had previously prepared our journey quite focused, knowing that we both did want to avoid troubles of any kind- So many negative tourist reports on VT and Tripadvisor.com!!): Kanabesh (the food is not crucifying exquisite, but you couldn´t find anywhere else with so familylike-ambiance + live singer each day;
Viva Beach, for the sight and atmosphere (+ a very good seafood plate);
Bayruz, libanian, even if of the most "pricey" kind, we´ve enjoyed it (about 25 euros p.p.)

spend it in sharm el shiekh, specially Nema Bay, all the nightlife is there, you will not need transportations there.
in newyear's eve there are huge parties everywhere. in sharm el sheikh Hardrock Cafe' is a big attraction, but personally i'd go for Bus Stop, international DJ's and alot of fun, shows, dance, and alcohol :)
you can spend this week or few days in a hotel that owns the bus stop club, it is called Sanafir. i think booking a room there in the eve will get you tickets to the party as it is in the whole hotel. it will be great fun, just pick a room with view on the pool and you will have the best night ever.
other recommendation is 2 or 3 star hotel Kanabesh, very basic, but you don't need more.
or Neema hotel 4* luxirious and great location in from of hardrock cafe' and in neema bay.
hope you enjoy it, i'll be celebrating my graduation there after i get my Bs in mechanical engineering this december.
have fun
