Old Sharm vs Naoma Bay

by malashen

Greetings forum members! Could you advise me please on relative advantages of staying in Old Sharm (I have Unisharm and Seti Sharm hotels in mind) versus hotels in Naoma Bay? I understand Naoma Bay is a fancy tourist place with hotel, bars, night clubs, etc., but i am mostly interested in the corals, beaches and snorkeling. What would be a better place for me?

Neither.

If you are just interested in the beaches, great snorkellling and enjoy the mountains and desert scenery and wildlife of Sinai, then forget Sharm and head to Nuweiba.

That Taba bus you were asking about actually goes all the way to Nuweiba.

If you are set on Sharm them Naama bay get my vote.Good house reefs that you can get to from the public or hotel beaches.

Travel Tips for Sharm El Sheikh

The Sun

by pickle05

The sun is HOT. We were there in September and it was 40 degrees every day only going down to about 32 at night.

The heat though is not that bad as it's a dry heat so easier to cope with. We took sun tan lotion (which you can buy at the airport or on the plane) and you only apply it once a day - though that's a bit misleading as I had to apply it at least twice!

Long, thin creature

by pikuu

Fistularia commersonii is a popular resident of the Red Sea reefs. Very thin and long animal looks like some musical instrument. This shape was the base for English name: Cornetfish Fistularia is very quiet and friendly, so one can observe it from very close distance.

It's A Cover Up!

If you are fortunate enough to take a trip to Cairo, its worth remebering to take a long sleeved top/jacket with you if you plan to visit a Mosque. You will be required to cover your shoulders and your legs girls! They dont apply the same rules to the men by the way!

Don't worry too much if you forget the appropriate clothing as they will provide you with a long robe. Be warned though they are thick and heavy and Egypt, especially Cairo is HOT! I didn't have to wear one but a few in our party did.

Snorkeling Gear

by Enzyme_X

If you have, bring your fins and water-mask. You'll ne needing them alot. Specially if you go to Sharm for couple of days. Sure, you can rent gear there, but better to have ypu own. You are more used to it and to rent one for more days can be expencive and worn out. Believe me, you'll want to snorkel more than just one day. The underwater world of Read Sea is fantastic.

Snorkelling

by belgrade03

One can go snorkelling even in shallow waters since there are corals and fish even along the beach. While snorkelling around large coral reefs with hundreds of fish species near them, I felt like being in a large aquarium. Fish are very peaceful, swim around you but don't pay any attention at your presence. Snorkelling equipment can be hired on the beach or bought in the centre of Naama Bay since there are numerous shops with aquatic equipment.
