More about Sol Sharm

Sol Sharm is brilliant!

by TripAdvisor Member Caz-Wood

This hotel was brilliant, the workers were very freindly (especially the activities guys, if you go, keep an eye out for Totty the aerobics man, Honey the activities organiser, Bob the spikey haired glass walking guy and Romeo the sweetie pie)! Our cleaner Hathian was great, we got towel sculptures each day that were very impressive!

Other good points about Sol Sharm were:

- Good bar staff, treat them well and they look after you with big glasses!

- The Bedwin tent and Willy the keyboard player, both together make an unforgetable experience

- The beach and jetty that you can walk on to see the amazing fish

- The shop staff are all very welcoming - Abdula especially in his perfume shop, make sure you stop in for some Egyptian tea

If you stay in this hotel we garentee you will have fun!

Brilliant

by TripAdvisor Member Mishelle

Stayed at the Sol Sharm from 21st - 28th September and it was brilliant! It was my first time in Egypt but now i can't wait to go back and i will definately be staying at the Sol Sharm. The hotel is spotless. Rooms are cleaned everyday to a very high standard by very pleasant staff. All of the entertainment team were brilliant, they were very friendly and helpful and really funny. The entertainment staff were fluent in many languages and could easily switch between conversations with english and italian guests. We stayed All Inclusive and we weren't dissapointed there was lots of choice and each night had a theme, the waiters were really friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We planned to go into Naama Bay most nights but only ended up going twice because we met lots of people in the hotel so it was good fun. I would highly recommend the desert quad biking excursion, it was fantastic. It only cost £20 you are out for 3hours, get to ride a camel, watch the sunset in the desert and have tea in the bedouin village. You'd have to try very hard to find any faults with this hotel.

All inclusive deal a SHAM

by TripAdvisor Member holigal

We have just returned from a week at sol sharm. Having stayed at the Sierra Hotel back in February 2006, we were disappointed by comparison. The hotel operates for All Inclusive and B&B guests. We were AI and quickly realised that all AI amenities were very poor in comparison to B&B guests! Our AI bar was situated on a second floor room which was 50% unmanned and very unattractive. I only ever saw 1 other guest in there. The drinks available for AI guests were disgusting compared to those served in the lush 'pay for' bar situated overlooking the pool where also all the main entertainment was held! The food was ok but very repetitive. We ended up eating out because the atmosphere in the restaurant was depressing as everyone eating was thoroughly BOrED! The pool table situated in the AI bar was chargeable at £5! The table tennis table failed to ever has a ball available. The Kids club was pityful and the kids were entitled to their AI ice cream between 4-5 o'clock only!! Inflatables were not permitted which was a shame. The beach had very little coral so there was not the same amount of fish to be seen as a neighbouring beach. The beach bar served drinks but no snacks, only crisps which were rarely in stock. The staff were very helpful generally and the entertainment team were excellent. As a party of 6, we all suffered upset tummies and heard that other guests has also. Having stayed at another hotel in the area previously, I would not recomment Sol Sharm for an All Inclusive guest. The rooms were clean and adequate.

warm and friendly resort

by TripAdvisor Member jimandjune

after reading the trip advisor reviews on the sol sharm we where a bit dubious about it but went with an open mind and what apleasant surprise we had,the trip from the airport was very quick about 10 minutes and then met at reception to have our bags taken to our room, the staff where brilliant and couldnt do enough for you,the cleanliness was allways the same throughout our stay and that was spotless they even spray the complex to kill all the mosquitoes, the driver that takes you to the beach was allways singing and allways had a smile, the food was great allways something for everyones taste, the staff on the pool area brought your mattress and towels to your chosen sun lounger, there was a different entertainment programme for every night ,and the entertainment team where just brilliant, the fare to naama bay was 2 euros and to old sharm was 3 euros these are return fare prices i was very impressed by the security as they take tourists welfare very seriously.
the exchange rate in the hotel is far higher than in the uk £10 was exchanged for £ep135.5,the beach was only a short walk away but the transport was regular and if you where walking the driver allways stopped to pick you up,and on our departure the staff in the hotel all came to the reception area to say there goodbyes a nice touch to finish your holiday, dont buy a visa if you are not going out of the sinai area as you will be given a free one at the airport you can have a safety deposit box from reception and there is no charge for it,you also dont get charged for the air conditioning, just like to thank everyone at the sharm for a memorable holiday and we will return one day a very pleasant and relaxing holiday. OUT OF THIS WORLD....

Wasn't impressed

by TripAdvisor Member Orchman

We ended up here after our Hotel was overbooked on our arrival in Egypt. Although we were there for only two nights before moving back to our original hotel I have to say that had I booked this place I would have been very disappointed indeed.
The room was clean but average although we did look out to both the pool and the sea. The pool was huge but I was annoyed by the blaring music that came from the Towel Hut from morning to late afternoon. It was constant!
We were there full board. The food was so so and the drinks expensive. There was, from what I saw, no daytime activities going on and the evening entertainment was so amateurish it was woeful.
For those guests on 'all inclusive' it seemed that the hotel kept running out of drinks and crisps 'accidentally on purpose' and I even saw a guest go into the poolside bar to get a box of crisps that the bar tender had been hiding!
I was bored by it and glad to leave when we did.
Sorry!

fantastic hotel

by TripAdvisor Member nbimson

booked this hotel as a last minute holiday the accomodation was fantastic and very clean and all the staff where helpful above and beyond the call of duty

all the facilities at the hotel where very good although the internet cafe did have several problems with the conection and the safes where at the side of reception and not in the room

the young lad in the reception area was very helpful with regards to the booking of taxis and they where always on time and where they said they would be when picking you up on the return journey haggle with them over the price

as a whole this hotel is very good and i will be visiting again soon

DONT use the taxis

by TripAdvisor Member helz84

Prior to bboking the holiday l had heard lots of lovely things about egypt! The plane trip was reasonable travelling time.

When landing we were on one side and l thought oh my god...... all i could see was dessert! what had l done? we had a short taxi ride which my partner has paid over price for as the football was on!!! dont pay more than £5 tops!!!!!

Egypt this is very basic and is the middle of a bid development process and sharm is like a massive beautiful dvelpoing site... you have to see to experience!!!

on arrival to the hotel it is little scary by taxi, armed guards checking under vechicles? upon arrival reception were pleasant and friendly ... dont over tip (they do expect)!!!

Room was very clean and ample size... leave a quid and you will have animals made form towels!!! its beautiful!

breakfast is an experience.... l quite liked but many didnt!!! garlic which l love is included in lots!!! very repititive if you dont mind you'll be fine! lunch and dinner the same! l just loved the fresh pasta made to order and the fresh yummy bread!!!

be carefully with salad and fruit all washed in local water.... quite a few people became ill.... l personally feel too much beer has a little to do with it but you never know?

Its true what they say about the bars.... all inclusive is second class and one barman inparticluar was a bit of an idiot! they get grumpy if you walk upstarirs to get drink to take them to the bar with some 'form ' of slight entertainment!!! we went out quite a lot but PLEASE book a taxt and return via the hotel as they are very dangerous and we nearly ended up ins erious problems!!!!! sorry not to scare!!!!

Wouldnt advise old sharm during the day and wear very covering clothes when out of the hotel!!

recommend the boat trips and snorlking waht an amazing experience!!!! wowowowowow!!!!!

Becarfull when out..... they left me in the dessrt at night on the quads!!!! would not recommend the evening quadding and they dont provide helmets a miss for children!!! and watch wallets with the bedwin children!!!

Entertainment very poor and the @activity' people are a bit of pervets witht he young girls around as mentioned doing there 'own thing' and to be honesta little rude with some of the larger people!

sorry dont mean to but you off but key points

-fantastic weather if you like the heat 38+{

-food edible though slightly reptitive

-different bars and some unhelpful staff

-pre-book taxis!!!! - via hotels!!!

EXCELLENT relaxing by pool side hotel with few boat trips!!!

would return but try another hotel..... though very clean and pleasant shame about food on occasiona dn bar service and lack of entertainment!!!

All Inclusive - IF, But, Maybe!

by TripAdvisor Member CRT86T

We have just returned to the UK from spending 13 nights in your hotel.

We would like to give you some feedback on our stay with you.

Good points:

The hotel was very clean and could not be faulted.
The staff were very friendly and we were personally looked after very well (my wife had a bad shoulder injury that occurred prior to arrival). The restaurant manager (Abdul) deserved a special “thank-you”.
The organisation of the shuttle bus from the airport was very good, all it took was one email request prior to our arrival.
The hotel took any currency we cared to use, UK£, LE£, €, or $

Bad Points:
We were on an “All Inclusive” tariff. In English this means ALL INCLUSIVE. We have stayed in many “all inclusive” hotels around the world and this was the worst “All Inclusive” deal we have experienced and we constantly felt penalised in what we were “allowed” to do as the “AI” seemed to be segregated into different time zones and areas. We are not big drinkers but we do like to be free to go anywhere and do anything without having to use money. This scenario became quite a joke with the British people who were there at the time.
Although as mentioned above we personally received good treatment, a lot of “AI” guests seemed to be looked after in a secondary manner while the waiters attended to paying customers in the restaurant. A few tips here and there seemed to solve this problem.
We were given two bottles of water free on arrival which had to be refilled each day by ourselves in the restaurant of the pool bar (or you could buy more).
The mini-bar in the room remained totally empty for the duration of our stay.
We could only get drinks in the top bar even though the entertainment was frequently in a different bar or on the Terrace. We constantly had to walk up and down carrying drinks to wherever the entertainment was happening.
If one asked for a “whisky and coke” you were just given a whisky and you then had to go to the coke dispenser and fill the glass yourself!
We could not get wine anywhere other than in the restaurant and were not allowed to take wine from there to anywhere else.
On several occasions the wine (in wine boxes) ran out and was not replaced at that particular restaurant sitting.
We could not eat in the Pool restaurant at lunchtime (unless we paid) so we had to get dressed and go inside the hot downstairs restaurant to eat for lunch.
We could not get ice creams at the Pool bar (unless we paid).
The bar by the outside theatre (Bedouin tent) did not serve spirits (only soft drinks) and this necessitated a long walk to inside the hotel the upstairs bar to get a drink in the middle of any stage entertainment.
The set of pool balls (only one cue available) was chargeable at the rate of £5 UK per hour. We could have possibly understood a deposit but chargeable “no”!
The music by the pool was FAR too loud and only seemed to be there for the satisfaction of the [a] entertainment team people who never seemed to understand that we did not want to be bothered by them all the time. They could be very intrusive. The general disco music was also painfully loud at times and sometimes went on very late into the night.
For a 4-star hotel we would normally expect to have a hair dryer in the room, although it was possible to get one from reception.

In summary, a good clean hotel with friendly staff but until the “AI” part is sorted out it was a little disappointing.

great for relaxation

by TripAdvisor Member selseybear

My husband and I booked a last minute get away for a bit of a rest and relaxation, which is exactly what we got. We really liked the hotel, we have been to Egypt before so we knew what to expect but we have been in the summer and did not realise just how quiet it would be. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and a small tip was greatly appreciated as they do not earn very much. The hotel is very clean and well maintained , rooms were of a good size and we had a great location walking out of our patio doors straight onto a sun bed by the pool. If you tip the pool attendant your towel and bed will be waiting for you each morning. The beach is about 5 mins walk away or there is a little shuttle bus running back and forth all day, the beach is rather small but very clean with a beach bar. We did the Cairo by plane trip which was a brilliant day out , seeing the pyramids , Cairo museum and local market. Well worth a visit. The only fault We found with the hotel was the all inclusive side of things. It also has half board guests who have the use of a different and much nicer bar and also can buy lunch at the poolside restaurant instead of having to go into the buffet restaurant. although this is no great problem sometimes you only want a snack at lunch. Apart from mealtimes there were a few teatime snacks available but from what we heard these were nothing very much. I think if the hotel changed to all inclusive only it would be much better, The food was ok , there was all ways something to eat but the same things every day. I can not comment on the enterainment as we never actually saw any, it did not start until ten o'clock and it was so quiet in the bar during the evening that we ended going back to our room before ten and watching crummy American tv channels! Overall we had a fantastic time very quiet and relaxing exactly what we wanted, although maybe a little too much !

There are loads of ATMs in Egypt.

Re: Sol sharm

by vdoortje

Change your first money at the Airport when arriving. Not to much: 50 GBP will be enough.

If you want to go to the mainland of Egypt you will need a visa. Can be bought on the airport as well for 15 USD or about 10 GBP and I don't know how many Euro's, since the Euro is rising every day.
