Excursions

by amaxwell3

Can i get excursions from my hotel in Sharm El Sheikh to go to Cario, or do i have to book it in advance?

Re: Excursions

I'm sure your hotel will offer excursions, but whether there will be availability when you want to go is another matter.

You may prefer to book in advance to be sure of going to Cairo on the day you want.

Google 'sharm cairo excursion' to check what is available to be booked online (quite a lot actually).

You likely should be aware of the distance involved. It is a six hour ride to Cairo, twelve hours round trip. I am pretty sure that the pick up for such a "day" tour is around midnight, and drop off is also around midnight. It is an exhausting tour. Consider doing an air tour to Cairo instead.

I have had a private tour group, with Sharm as the main destination. Some of them did a ground tour to Cairo, while others did an air tour. The grounders where exhausted, and although they tried to sleep on the bus, it was just too much for them. Most of the travel is at night so not much to see. The flyers however, had a great time, and were already kneed eep in bar/ocean/revelry, when the grounders came back, all of whom went straigh to bed, and slept long into the next day. Just a thought.

When I visited Sharm a few years ago, I found it much cheaper to go into town and book my excursions etc.. via a local travel agent than via the hotel and indeed at a fraction of what your tour operator would charge you.
You can fly to cairo if you wish , I think the trip taken just over an hour. again, you can book for this directly via egypt air. All the best.

Queuing Up

It would appear that bi-ped dont automatically get the right of way through the many doors and window access ways on the Thistlegorm....

I suppose its only fair... The fish live here, and we are just visiting....

Ramadan

by cherrybug

We visited Egypt in Ramadan. This didn't affect us at all in Sharm El Sheik because it is catered so well for foreign tourists. When in Cairo we got a much better insight the sense of community and celebration associated with Ramadan.
We sat on the pavement edge in Cairo in front of a square filled with tables. The tables were surrounded by the local people who were preparing for the setting of the sun. At that moment the square burst into a flurry of conversation and laughter and passing dishes of food and filling glasses. The sense of togetherness was amazing.

jumpers or shawls for nights as it can get a little cool. also men need trousers and longer shirts for mosques, as do women, as well as a veil/headscarf bring immodium! just in case you get the stomach churning disease that nearly everyone had when i was there. or just don tdrink the water, clean your teeth or eat fruit or veg! or ice cubes
also, ladies, i could find tampons in only one shop in the whole bay so stock up!

PADI - Open Water Course

by beccyandjohn

This is John upon successfully completing his PADI open water course. This was done with Camel Diving who we would highly recommend, you can find them down by the beach by the hotel, or alternatively visit them in Naama Bay where they have the Camel Bar, Hotel and Shop.
