Average Five Star Experience
Very much agree with one other review in that you would expect more from a 5 star hotel. It does not compare with the Far East (Malaysia) where the quality is bettter and the service considerably so.
We booked through a UK tour operator (Odyssey Worldwide) and went in Feb 2005. There were two disappointing factors we experienced - food and service.
Although there are 4 restaurants only one is included if booking half board. The food was distinctly average but much better than food experienced in the Nile region of Egypt. You do receive a discount of LE£25 per person if you eat at the Italian or Beach Bar - the most expensive meal was LE£85 so quite a good discount really.
Drinks are relatively expensive in the hotel and they make good use of the fact they are a little isolated from Naama Bay (beer is LE£25 compared to LE£16 in the Bay). However, the wine is good value in comparison (LE£30 for a glass compared to LE£40). The Italian and Beach bar both serve good fish.
The waiter service is lacking at times. Although very friendly and accomodating they appear to lack communication with each other with no one in overall control so confusion often rains. This leads to places not being set or available and occasionally long periods between orders being placed and food/drink arriving. On one occasion I had to ask for the bill about three times and it still did not arrive until 20 minutes later.
This is a good hotel in a great location - away from Naama Bay which was particularly disappointing. I was glad that I did not pay extra to stay in Naama Bay despite feeling that I was going to be cut off a little from the action. There is not much in the way of action - a couple of bars and lots of tacky tourist shops but quiet in general.
One other warning is that if you are on a late checkout (after 13:00) but wish to keep the room for a little longer the standard charge is US$50. We negotiated this down to US$20.
Unique Quality: The facilities are very good including plenty of "beach" space available and fantastic snorkelling on the Far Garden Reef. Warning there is no beach here - the hotel leads directly onto the reef via two jettys.
I would recommend this hotel as it represents good value for money (paid GBP£350 for a week including flights from the UK). Having spoken to other people staying in Sharm this hotel is possibly one of the better ones.
The aesthetics of the hotel are one of the best features - Moorish style. It is split into many sections and so feels small despite its size.
The leisure facilties are well worth using - with a free gym. The tennis is €9 for one hour. The massges are also good value (€20 for 30 minutes) and are a very popular so book up as soon as you get there.
The hotel also runs two shuttle buses into Naama Bay (afternoon and early evening). If you stay later you can get a taxi for LE£30 (and no more - haggle!!).

Not a five star experience
We stayed here for 7 nights over New Year 2004. Attractive hotel, low rise flatroofed whitewashed buildings cascading down in terraces to the sea. Beautiful gardens, good public areas. Man-made sunbathing terraces with sand lead down to sea where there is floating jetty to swim off. Hotel is on Far Garden reef so excellent for snorkelling and lots of dive boats visit every day so lots going on to watch from your sunlounger. Swimming pools are unheated save one in leisure complex and in Winter this means pools are unusable - positively artic water temperature which is a problem if you have young children since they wouldn't be able to use pools (and can't paddle in sea - jetty leads straight to very deep water). Restaurants very poor for this standard hotel although one by sea does have good fresh fish and no decent bar to relax in. Housekeeping erratic. Bathrooms very poor quality fittings and lack any wow factor and although rooms are good size with lots of wardrobe space some have distinctly grubby fixtures and fittings. Management poor attitude. Staff overwhlemingly friendly and eager to help/please but poorly trained and let down by poor management. Majority of guests here are Russian. Major problem with water when we stayed - some rooms had no water at all, some no hot water. Showers just dribbled out and it took half an hour to run a bath and in first room we had the drains stank. Some rooms have only shower so ask for bath if you definitely want one and there is major construction going on on both sides of hotel so ensure you get room with good view not over any construction sites. Hotel is 15 minute taxi ride into Sharm itself. If you ate elsewhere and tipped guy who cleans your room well you should be OK but better hotels for the price in Sharm
Unique Quality: Very attractive architecture and lovely views.

One of the best hotels in the area
What a fantastic hotel! Me and my girlfriend are not easily impressed (we were a little disappointed with the Intercontinental last year) but this hotel is truly excellent. The rooms and balconies are lovely, there are a few nice bars, the general layout of the hotel is stunning, and the service is good. Unless you want to splurge on the four seasons I'd recommend this above every other hotel in sharm. One drawback I suppose is that it has no outstanding restaurant, but the best thing to do is to get a taxi to other hotels or to naama bay for some great food (sala thai at the hyatt, Frantoio at the 4 seasons, On Deck - stunning - at the Iberotel Lido in Naama Bay.
Unique Quality: The beach is amazing, really beautiful, the pools lively and so clean, the beach bar was lovely, the tapas in the tapas bar very good, the arabic cafe bar in the centre modelled on an old souk and the perfect place to chill after going out in the evening. The general ambience is of a romantic, laid back andalusian village.

Reef-side Sharm Hotel
We booked this hotel at the last minute and without recommendation so we didn't know what to expect when we got there. We were pleasantly surprised.
The hotel is large and covers a rather vast area which gives a feeling of great space. However, there are hundreds of steps throughout the complex, which makes it difficult for even the fit in the searing heat.
There are five pools. Most people seem to gather at the beach pool which has spectacular views. The downside is that it gets very crowded and the music which is played for about two hours both morning and afternoon can be far too loud.
All of the restaurants listed on the Hotel's website were not open and for dinner we were really limited to the buffet in the main dining room or the Italian restaurant. This got rather tiresome in the second week. There's also a beach barbecue but as this was the main venu for lunch we were not inclined to revisit it for dinner.
There's a great feeling of fun throughout the resort, and there's something happening all the time.
Standards are high and the overall feeling is of comfort, relaxation, and enjoyment. I would say that in reality the hotel looks even better than it appears on its website. I cannot see where I can upload a pic here.....
We would return.
Unique Quality: The staff are incredible - friendly, helpful, and not a bit cloying.
The jetty over the Far Gardens coral reef is amazing - you can stand there up to your knees in water and watch spectacularly coloured fish swim around you. Watch it though - the nip you if you stay still too long!
There's also a very good selection of gift shops both in the hotel lobby and in the rather unique street-style bazaar within the hotel grounds.

Fantastic Hotel
A beautiful hotel built in arabic style with wonderful sea views. what impressed us most was how simple everything was - great service, beautiful rooms, lovely bathrooms, etc - just what you need to relax totally - great barbecue on the beach for lunch and dinner.
Unique Quality: Fabulous views, right on far garden reef with a jetty over it where non swimmers can just lie there and watch the fish
Beautiful Beaches with cafe del mar ambient music drifting over you as the sun sets!
incredibly helpful staff (apart,. weirdly, from reception)
If you can get there outside of school holidays it's the perfect place to chill.

Re: crowne plaza resort
Hi,
I have just booked 2 weeks for august. Found some good reviews on www.Holidaysuncovered.com
Re: crowne plaza resort
Hi, I stayed there in December, I was very impressed with the hotel, the food prices were reasonable, but I did find the drinks quite expensive, but I found that generally every where in Sharm the drinks were abit pricey. Have a good time,
Amanda
