Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
I stayed at Le Meridien Luxor the very first time i came to Egypt back in 2003. I wasnt sure what to expect of Egypt, its always been a dream to travel here as i was interested in the history of Egypt when i was at school. When we first arrived i was amazed at how stunning this hotel was, it was like a palace inside & the staff were excellent. The bellcaption is so sweet, his name is Mahmoud, we received a warm welcome from him & he even delivered flowers to my room which i thought was nice. He showed us around the hotel & we went to try some Shisha, this was when i became a true "Shisha Queen" as the Egyptians say to me. Hehe. I loved the taste of it, it was really nice. The hotel has recently changed it name to The Nile Palace. I you are planning to go here then either ask for Meridien Luxor or Nile Palace because not all tour operators/travel agents have the new name.
The pool at Le Meridien Luxor is fabulous, you get a great view of the River Nile & the Valley of the Kings at the other side of the Nile. The pool is quite small & it is abit cold but its nice when you've been sunbathing for a while. We paid for a Nile View room & it was well worth the extra cost, the views were unbelievable. I loved it. There is plenty to do at the hotel, shops, bars & there are a couple of restaurants too. The hotel is close to all the major attractions in Luxor too which is good. Id recommend this hotel to anyone, i had a great time & would go back.

 | | | | Le Meridien Luxor: BEWARE !!!
| | | | |
I stayed a few times in "le Méridien" (now Steigenberger Nile Palace), the best hotel in Luxor. Friendly staff, excellent buffet, nice and clean rooms. BUT... beware of the shops near the pool area. The hotel has no supervision on these shops. They are too expensive (about 10 times the price you wouild pay in the bazar for the same articles) and the people hassle you to buy (nothing new in Luxor) and they even go as far as to ask you money. Beware especially of a certain "Jasmine" (last shop before the pool). My wife and I went into het shop, looked around and, when we were about to leave, she began to tell us a sad story, telling us she lost her job (that was last year, she's still working there), HAD to get married (still single) and had to move out of her appartment (that I don't know). Finally she asked us to "lend" her ten thousand pound (Egyptian, about 1400 euro). Of course we didn't and we left the shop. I wrote the manager about this incident, he replayed he couldn't do anything about it as the shop was not under the supervision of the hotel. So, BEWARE!!! | | | | Le Meridien Luxor: Nile Palace - WOW!
| | | | |
This hotel is now called the Nile Palace Hotel and we have just returned from a week's stay there. It is a 4+ star hotel which deservedly is in the top 10 (6th) Conde Last hotels of Africa. We had a courtyard view room, and we were glad we hadn't upgraded to Nile View because the sun is so hot the occupants of the nile view rooms have to keep their curtains closed all the time the sun is on them to keep the heat out. The hotel has 3 restaurants - we tried them all and they are all good, although we preferred the Lebanese one best. There are 3 bars, one in the courtyard where you can watch the evening entertainment, and one in an air-conditioned foyer overlooking the pool and the nile, and one by the pool. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and unlike outside in the city, they dont expect "baksheesh" (tips) all the time, although they dont say no if you do! The hotel is fairly modern without being characterless, and the decor is mostly marble in shades of beige/sand and green.
Outdoor pool (they dont need it indoors!), spectacular Nile Views from the bar and the verandahs as well as from the nile view rooms (you can have to pay up to £150 extra for one of these!), 3 restaurants, 3 bars including the poolside bar, souvenir shops, a hairdresser (slightly old-fashioned, styles are from the 90's if the pictures in the window are to be believed), bank and ATM (good rates) pool/billiard room, conference facilities, internet room, gym.
