Near the Nile
by boo5 about Tutotel
Rooms were lovely very clean, food OK. There was a nightclub downstairs which attracted some local which was a small problem. It has a rooftop pool, although quite small its lovely to cool down after a hot day sightseeing. It offers beauiful views across the Nile you can even see the Temple on the West Bank.
Get in and relax
by teija about Tutotel and Sinouhe
If you want to see somekind of nightlife in Luxor Tutotel and Sinouhe are the 2 places which are popular among locals and also tourists. Never seen guys dancing so much especially when DJ is playing Egyptian music.
In Tutotel there is usually belly dancer's show and you can see local men sitting with their cola drink and relaxing after hard day at work.
For women it seems to be easy to find company from there but be careful with these charming guys. They already have loads of girlfriends and they love flirting.
Drinks and beer are expensive everywhere in Luxor. When the bill comes you should check it line by line because they may test if you are willing to pay little bit extra... You can wear what ever you want inside the nightclub but take something to cover yourself when you leave.
Go for the Duck!!
by Angelal about El Kababgy
El Kababgy is a fairly new cafe/restaurant on the bank of the river nile on Luxors East Bank. It is directly opposite the Winter Palace so very easy to find. I believe it is owned by the same family that own the Tutotel and the Metropolitan Cafe/Bakery further down the river.
This restaurant is excellent, it is spotlessly clean both in the restaurant and the kitchens which you can see from outside. You can choose to either sit outside by the Nile or inside the restaurant itself which is decorated nicely and has a nice modern feel to it.
The menu is slightly more adventerous that many of the other small restaurants in Luxor with the added bonus of having a Nile view. There is a grilled section where you can choose from Grilled Chicken, Mixed Grill, Lamb Cutlets, Pigeon, livers and much more. There is a nice selection of soups, burgers and sandwiches as well as pastas and pizzas. The also have a wide selection of traditional Tagines as well as lots of vegetarian dishes I had the Duck with Orange sauce with Oriental rice and I can only describe it as totally delicious. Adel had the Mixed Grill and this looked delicious also. The chef cooks the koftas on a BBQ outside so the smell drifts across which really gets your appetite going. The staff are nice and friendly too.
This is also a great place for a coffee and to enjoy the view if you don't fancy eating.
One good sign is that the toilets are probably one of the cleanest in Luxor and a man checks them frequently to ensure they are clean. Only downside is that the toilet door has a huge mirror - on the inside which is just a bit off putting to say the least.
We visited El Kababgy for a special lunch but it would be interesting to see what the atmosphere is like in the evening. The music they play there is pretty good also, they alternate between Egyptian/Arab music and Western music.
Overall, highly recommended!!! Duck with Orange Sauce - absolutely huge!
