Hong long does it take from Luxor to Hurghada by bus

by Luster

I am planning my first trip in Egypt. I have two questions:

1. Hong long does it take from Luxor to Hurghada by bus ?
2. What the time/schedule of the bus? Should I book a ticket in advance?

It takes 4 to 5 hour depends on the convoi you travel with.
In Egypt if you travel to other towns/cities, all the buses or taxis leave from designated places where they gather, and they are accompanied by Military Police viecles.
We traveled opsite direction from Hurgada to Luxor and back...
Bus picked us up from the hotel and we headed to the meeting place, in this istance the football ground on the outscrts of town, once everybody arrived, military police or I should say Antiquity and Tourisma police entered (at least4) the buses with Police jeeps front and back ov the convoi, and we set off.
Due to large covoi, the pace is rather slower so the trip takes 4-5 hrs. Actualy the distance is only around 360km from Luxor to Hurgada but takes longer to drive slow...

Valentina is right for the driving time but actual time depends on the time you are picked up in the morning plus the waiting time plus the neccessary watering-hole stop, in all we took nearer 7 hours.

Paul, 7 hrs!!! And I tought 5 was little bit too much!
Last time whan I visites Hurgada, I was told no regular buses are avalable becouse of security. Reading this now,it comes clear across, that I was "taken for a ride" no pun intended, as the trip was sold to me by suggestion of the receptionist.
I can not fault the agency, they did stelar job, but now I realised that the receptionist didn't told the truth..
Ah well you live and learn, abiet few yeras latter....

Don't worry Valentina, it was the same for me, there were definitely no private sector buses running then. Perhaps it's changed since.

you may need to click on the english button.

it's one of the regular bus services the other is super-jet for which i don't think they have a web portal.and you can do everything online if you wish.

superjet is most likely a little more expensive. but its the service we have used here for some of our local trips.

I will try the other one when we take our next day trip just to see. both have very clean looking newer buses.

we normally go a day ahead of our planed trip to make sure we have enough seats

It's about a 4-5 hour trip now, on fully air-conditioned coaches (use El Gouna bus company, about 75 LE each way).

They operate overnight services as well so if you get the 3am bus you'll be in Hurghada for 8am.

Travel Tips for Hurghada

Advice: Currency

by aliante1981

If you have no plastic card (either a debit, or a credit one) and do not wish to be bothered with travelers cheques (where commission charges tend to be quite high) you will be better off taking with you determinate currency.

At present, these currencies are clearly Euros (#1, offering the best exchange rate) and US Dollars (as widely accepted but somewhat marked down by the Exchange Bureaus & banks due to the recent slide).

Some other currencies are accepted, but they are heavily marked down.

What to bring

by tomerik

Bring some extra toilet paper. 80% of the tourists becomes sick in Egypt due to the unusual bacteria flora in the food.
Also bring some digestive pills. Lots of sun screen. Without it you will get sunburned in 5 minutes.

International Airport

by gugi66

You can find many souvenir shops at the Airport, it´s packed with stuff. BUT It´s really really expensive and they will not bargain (lower their prices) so It´s buy it or leave it. Remember this, don´t buy the souvenirs at the airport you will pay the double then in Hurghada.

DONT MISS MY VIDEOS OF THE SHOPPING AT THE AIRPORT IN HURGHADA Well a souvenir if you forgot to buy one. To much......

Reporting to the police when harrased on bus

by Saladinos

Please try to understand what i will say.
In any society there are the goods and bads. In some cases you meet one or both. A European friend of mine (a lady) was travelling to sharm with the bus and when she arrived and we met she was very nervous about something. Do you want to know what?
Well.
She was complaining from a stupid man who was sitting in the seat behind her. the man kept touching her hair and body.
She paniced to the extent that she couldnt handle the situation in the right way.
My advice to her and to you of course is the following: If the above happens to you, please go straight to the bus driver and make your complaint . If the driver didnt make any firm action, then wait till you reach the police check point (there are many of them on the road and the policemen comes up to the bus to check IDs) and make a report. The stupid man will be grapped and face problems.
Please dont be silent towards such acts cause your silence can generate real troubles not only to you but to the Egyptian tourism industry.

Visit paradise-island Mahmya

by siri

A paradise-island outside Hurghada(about 45 minutes boattrip), no resorts, just a small bar and a lunch-restaurant. You can go snorkelling here. If you are like me - not into scuba-diving - you can se a lot of nice fish just off the beach too.... :-)

We went there with our travel-agent, but I am sure you can book tours as independent traveller too...or just become friends with a local fisherman with a fast boat. :-)
