You'll see different scenery when crossing the emptyness of Egypt's east.
Eastern desert is a bit more similar to the Sinai with hills, rocks and a bit of sand.
The only big town between Luxor and Hurghada is Qena which is close to Nile and the road then goes all the way east crossing the Eastern desert.
Halfway in the middle of the desert there is a passport check-point as is usuall in Egypt and everywhere in the desert, this is also a tea stop and you can watch how the police treat locals.
Some food too.
Then it is couple of miles up and then it is about 80 miles going down and slow turns n' stuff before you reach a sleepy waterfront town which is about 50 miles from Hurghada, this is a place for tea and gas station for the bus.
Oh and one more thing, in Luxor the bus station is far away so you have to take a taxi, helpfull policemen there.
