 | | | | Sunrise Royal Makadi: Makadi Bay 24hr AI | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
If you are in two minds about going to this hotel then hopefully this review will make your mind up for you. Before I went I was finding it difficult finding any info about the hotel So I hope this helps. The Hotel is very new (Opened Nov 2005) & is situated in Makadi Bay which is a newish resort of large all inclusive resorts. As you approach the entrance to the grounds you instantly realise that the resort is going to be luxurious and it does not disappoint! The long palm tree fringed driveway passes to the right of the family pool which has water slides. As you enter the hotel there is a very nice fountain in the lobby. To the right is the reception. The Thomas Cook rep had us booked in before we could approach the desk. The reception staff then insist you take a seat whilst the bar staff bring a refreshing drink to you. Once finished the bell boys ask which bags are yours and then its off to the room. We were in block 22 with a lovely sea view. The rooms were very nice but not a double bed!! each had a fridge which was stocked with water, pepsi, fanta & 7up. (water only restocked during stay). the bathroom was large with a superb power shower. The rooms were cleaned each day by an English speaking man who was sooooo friendly and made animals out of the towels daily. each room has individual air con. The hotel runs on a 24hr all inclusive basis and all food and drink is included. Meals are taken in the large air conditioned buffet restaurant where there is plenty of choice incl a meat & fish station or pasta freshly cooked before you. The buffet is open from 6:30-10:30, 12:30-2:30 & 6:30pm-10:30pm. From 11am-5pm a snack bar is available with burgers, pizza, hotdogs etc. There are also 3 A La Carte restaurants, Asian, Italian & Mediterranean which you dont need to pre book. You can eat in each of these once per person per stay. Did not have a problem with any food throughout our stay & no tummy bugs.
Drinks are 24hr in the lobby bar and includes some international brands. Not small glasses either, very generous with alcohol. Drinks also available in bottles & cans from the pool bars, the snack bar & the beach bar. The pool areas were amazing with 4 pools in total. A freeform pool with swimup bar, a rectangular pool which overflows into a small free form pool & the family pool which is the only heated pool. (Needed in winter as main pool was icy cold. Trust me, I know as does everyone else when I screamed after taking a plunge in the free form) The beach was perfect. Nice soft sand near the water. Lots of free sunbeds with comfy mattresses. The sea was warm, clear and hardly moved (the waves break on the reef some way out) You must snorkel whilst here. The house reef is amazing with lots of colourful fish. There was daily activities & every night they did a show in the cave disco varying from egyptian dancing to Moulin Rouge & Lord of the Dance. The disco is open until 3am playing English music. Next door is the Queen Vic pub with two pool tables which can be pre booked for 1/2hr each day. It soon became apparent that staff prefer English and if you spend 2 mins talking to them they will go out of their way to please you. Other nationalities were just plain rude and got nothing in return. The hotel has a number of shops but dont pay the price they first tell you. Half it, offer it then start negotiating. The hotel is constantly being cleaned by what appears to be an army of cleaners. Still very new but due to the care being put in by the staff the desert really is turning green in this resort. The only downside of this resort is sometimes the wind can be cold especially at night. If you are going in winter take a long sleeved top for the evening. On a whole I would heartedly recommend the Sunrise Royal Makadi for a relaxing enjoyable stay with the most friendly people I have ever met. If I have left anything out then please do not hesitate to contact me and I will gladly get back to you. Daz1366 Theme: HotelAddress: Makadi Bay, Hurghada, Egypt

 | | | | Hotel ZAHABIA 3*: Hotel ZAHABIA 3* | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Only three stars, but it definitely deserves more. It's very neat, clean, comfortable, with plenty of facilities, nicely decorated, beautiful in every sense! The food is great, tasty and it is served in the Bedouin Tent, where you have entertainment program at 8.30pm, but I always escaped from that event, it's not my type of a thing, so i can't tell you how it is. I just saw belly dance performance once, which was fabulous!!! In the hotel complex there is a pool, lots of shops (water is essential, you can't drink tap water! However, it costs more than in the downtown, 5 punds, while in Hurgada supermnarkets it is 3.50 Egyptian pounds), restaurants, childrenj playgrounds, gardens, lovely divans on the terrace of the rooms building, etc. There is air conditioning, satellite TV, nice bathroom, the only trouble are cockroaches, which are harmless, but thez crawl in under the door, it's inevitable. I know that a lot of people are disgusted, and probably that is why they can't get a 4th star :-), but really, all they do is crawl in the edges of the room, and never climbing on the beds, yourself, etc... They even escape when they see a man! So no worries! Hotel has its own beach, where the first part is very shallow water, some 100-200m even, but if you go further to the edge of the pier (another 50m), there is a coral reef, and you can go to the deep water normally. There are a lot of colourful fish, corals and extremely exuberant submarine life! There are two beach restaurants, both at the pier edge and at the beach where the shallow water is. There are some shops on the beach too, massage center, travel agency, hair dresser, Red Sea Divers scuba diving center is also there... . Breakfast from 6,30 until 10 ,Lunch from 12 until 3, evening meal from 6 until 10 in the main restaurant but first night restaurant open until everyone had eaten as we didnt arrive until nearly 11,30pm. Snacks avaliable outside all day until 10pm. Drinks until midnight and coffee all night.. Italian restaurant and Fish restaurant in the complex, each guest is allowed a free meal in each, dont buy the optional wine, its 200le a bottle. Massage is extra, but if you can, do have at least one Cleopatra massage. The gym is free. Entertainment was very limited in the evenings, they did their best, but watching 10 german kareoke singers did get a little tiring, the childrens singing and dancing on the stage was again in german so not really suited if you didnt understand the language. Do expect the shopkeepers to hassle you into their shops, but be firm, they do eventually understand NO, and do haggle, offer 2thirds of the asking price, and be prepared to walk away. Pharoes revenge: stomach cramps and diarhea, 90% get it, dont take anything from UK, it wont work, any chemist out there will give you tablets, we payed 80le and cured it in 24hours. Taxis are very cheap, just ask the Bell boy to arrange it for you, ask the price beforehand, but do make sure you tell them where you are going otherwise you may end up in their cousins shop, Would recommend this hotel to couples, but very limited entertainment for teenagers within the complex.
Stunning Sea views, only beach is on the lagoon, of corse sand and the lagoon gets deep quickly. Childrens pool, large swimming pool, very windy at times in front of the hotel.shallow coral reef to left rear of hotel, do wear shoes when walking on the reef and slippy cobbles down to the water. In theory the loungers cant be booked before 8am, but many have towels on them by 6am. Theme: HotelAddress: Sunrise el Palacio

 | | | | Hotel Grand Makadi 5* | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
A resort like in a dream of 1001 nights. Built like an Arabian Palace, great architecture! At night it is illuminated like a dream, see my travelogue pictures! Before you enter Makadi Bay area, they stop every bus and look with mirrors under it if no bombs attached for safety against terrorists. Then you drive into the park with numberous hotels between the palmtrees. Grand Makadi has a fountain with palmtrees in front. Inside you have the grand café with fountain, lots of swimming pools. It's a very big 5* resort. When you arrive you receive a plan in the reception where so that you don't lose your way. It's very big with lots of bungalows and seperate buildings. I found a special site for all those who go to Grand Makadi. A german tourist took all detailed pictures, even in the bathroom! :) http://www.udohaas.de/grandmakadi
Unique qualities : - Architecture & illumination at night - Perfect area with it's own lagoon in front of hotel 3 A LA CARTE RESTAURANTS : My advice is when you arrive to make reservations for the whole week directly! 1. ORIENTAL RESTAURANT (second restaurant left of the fountain by the grand café) Great oriental spiced food, kebab, lamb, .... all in the all inclusive formula The restaurant is sometime a bit cold due to the airconditioning and you sit +- 2 meter far from each other. You can sit outside also. Live music, friendly waiters, best restaurant in the hotel, variety of choice!! 2. SEAFOOD RESTAURANT (in the centre of the pools) SUPERB!!!! Excellent Scampi & Fish menus, great waiters. 3. LEONARDO Italian restaurant, we found the appetizers very good. The head-dishes were not so good. Like Fungi pasta : not much sauce and taste not so good, the tagliatelli was not so soft cooked. The least of the 3 restaurants.
