Hello All,
I am heading down to Hurghada and Cairo during the last week of January. What kind of weather should I expect. I am wondering if I need to pack the kind of clothes we wear here for winter or lighter. I was hoping to enjoy the beach a bit in Hurghada but I hear it is too cold to swim...
Anyone been there in winter that can help...

will it be too cold for diving?
We were in Egypt during early Februari last year.
I took only light summer clothing and 2 vests and a light jacket.
Cairo was frizzy in the evening during the beginning of our stay, but the clothes I took were sufficient. During the cruise the winds were very cold; no way we could take a sun bath on the sun deck of the ship. But in Marsa Alam it was very cosy and warm; we could sun bath and snorkel and I think diving would be OK as well. I saw several people doing that.
When back in Cairo it was cold again and the clothes I took couldn't keep me warm during the evening. My friend in Cairo bought me a warm coat that kept me going. Ana behibik, sadiqie!!
That was last year... In 2003 we were there around the same time and a vest was more than enough during the evening.
Just have light clothes with 1 or 2 warm sweaters and a wide wind proof jacket, so you can ware several layers over another and you will be fine. If not..... Clothes in Cairo aren´t that expesive....

have been to hurghada in early feb for the past two years, and enjoyed sunbathing and swimming both times need to keep out of the wind on the beach and perhaps take a couple of jumpers or light jackets for some evenings. during the day tshirt@shorts 99% of the time.
The sea in Hurghada is VERY clean and transparent, it is said to be the clearest sea in the world, also the warmest. The colour can vary from turquoise, over green to all shades of blue, indigo to aquamarine, dark blue or sky blue... it's an entire parade of colours and shine!
I just wanted to mention that there is a rescue and search teams in the red sea area to help people who are doing water sports and especially diving boats and safari boats. Maybe it is of interest to anyone. Theyt have rescye boats and equipment
If you are looking for an early and quite kind of outing, then dont miss going to the grand hotel restaurants and bars.
The place is amazing with its indirect warm lighting and simon colors and the varity of crowds sitting and walking around.
If you are in for some live band and a dancing show that includes some belly dancing then it is also your place.
They serve nice pizzas there for cheap prices and you can enjoy the setting of the place instead of the usual Pizza Hut scene that i am sure you are fed up with.
The place have the best internet cafes in Hurghada and a Billiard pool. Whatever suits and please you.
The decor is a little unusual it reminds me of being inside a dark aquarium, with dark blue walls that look like water. If you can overlook the decor, do go in; you will not be sorry I promise you. This is another one of those restaurants where the fish is swimming 10 minutes before it hits your plate! You can order in or take out, they also deliver.

as I mentioned before, Hurghada is also a center of aquantic sports:)
and even if you don't like diving very much, nonetheless I'd recommend you at least snorekeling - you'll get a real "culture shock" of what you'll see under the water:)
