Please help - tips - information, suggestions on day trip to Luxor & Valley of the Kings

by itchie75

Is it best to book a day tour after you arrive at your hotel or try to before by doing it online? Can you see enough on a day trip? How close are the Valley of the Kings and Luxor?
Any recommendation on tour guides (smaller groups or even private Guides)If you have any contact information please send it to me.
Also any suggestions on Glass Bottom boats, Snorkeling and other "to do's while there/ We will have about 8 days.

Thanks

Hi,Luxor is about 6 hours bus drive from Hurghada. It's very easy to book a trip at your hotel.Just ask your hotel guide.Usually they sell 1 day trip.Never try to book in the street. It's dangerous(frauds, poor servvice etc.)Never buy any souvenirs in the street(fraud).
Enjoy Egypt!Good Luck!

Travel Tips for Hurghada

Local Fire Wood

by kenmerk

The dilemma is how to cook the pita bread out here in the desert, as there is not much in the way of usable flammable material.

The solution should be obvious: Camel Dung. It is actually quite a rich source of energy. (lots and lots of BTU's per KG)

Try it. Actually bread cooked in this manner doesn't taste bad at all... (Quite fresh...)

Water sandals or diving shoes + snorkling gear

by Innovator

Like you find sometimes cheap in supermarket Lidl once a year, sea-shoes.
Essential to step on the sharp rocks when snorkling. Also watersandals can be used.
Also some snorkling gear is advised if you want to see some fish.

Local souq

by Sambawalk about local shops

There are many local shops in the souq area in Ad-Dahar. At the time I was here (end April 2006), there were very few people and tourists. Not sure it was due to the bomb blast in Dabah on 25 April 2006. Look at those antiques and there should have something for you. Happy shopping.

Authentic Arabic Food

by janpat about Al Masry

Excellent Food! Recommended to us from the local guys at reception. It's off of Sakkala Square- just tell your driver- they know where it is!
REally awesome food and a lot of expat workers go there too from the diving schools. You can eat for 2 and be totally stuffed for 10 euros. The arabic rice is excellent and be sure to order the molookhia and grape leaves and stuffed chicken, and soup!:)
This is where locals eat! All of them!

Dawn's First Light

by kenmerk

Though the town and over developed coastline around Hurghada aren't much to look at, the sunrises sure can been nice.

Here you can get three for one in your picture frame: A palm tree, a crescent moon, and dawn's first light...
