Ferries from Duba to Hurghada

by nar137

What is the cost of ferry ride from Duba in Saudi Arabia to Hurghada and what is the schedule? Is there a website that I can check? Do I need a visa to enter Egypt? I'm a Malaysian.

can I know why is that? is the journey unconmfortable? cheapest direct flight from jeddah to egypt during february 2011 is to alexandria by nasair, and it's nor cheap either by my standard at SAR299 to Assiut. I want to start at either Aswan or Luxor, so I only had few choices on point of arrival .

??????? What is the question in this thread??

As far as I know there is no ferry from Saudi Arabia to Hurghada. Why would there be one?

And how do you end up in Alexandria and from there in Assiut? You don't want to be in Assiut......

I've read somewhere there is a ferry from Duba to Hurghada, service just reinstated early this year or last year, I can't remember, after it was discontinued quite a few years back. That's why I'm asking. About the flight, sorry, my mistake. It was actually a NasAir direct flight from Jeddah to Assiut, so then I can continue my journey down to Luxor. Now I'm considering either taking the ferry from Duba to Hurghada or take the flight to Assiut.

Well, I don't know about that ferry. Never heard of it.

About your possible flight to Assiut. Be aware that Assiut is in a non touristy part of Egypt. You will need police or military guidance to go around Assiut and on your way to Luxor! Best is to take the train from Assiut to Luxor.

By car you will need to find a convoy that will go to Luxor. I have no idea if there is one and from where it will leave.

There aren't many people around here that can give you information about Assiut, since almost nobody goes there.

And be aware that you will have to apply for your Egyptian Visa in your home country! For some reason or another Malaysian citizens can't buy the Visa at the (air)port of arrival.

Good luck, Dora.

Yes, if we ever take this option, going to take a train from Assiut to down south. About the visa, I have checked our Foreign Ministry website and it said that we don't need one. However am going to double checked with Egyptian Embassy here. Thanks for your info.

Travel Tips for Hurghada

the map of Hurghada

Hurghada is divided into 3 districts (quarters): the old district is called Dahar ( Downtown), the new - Sakalla, and the district with hotels - Village Road.
In Dahar is the souq - the market, where you can buy souvenirs, gold, silver, papirus, spices ( very colorfull).
Sakalla is the touristical part of the city. Here are many pubs, restaurants, shops, cafes, discos. There are many tourists the all day and the all night.

The weather in Hurghada is sunny and mild almost all year. However some days and evenings are incredibly windy. When the wind does stop blowing, the weather usually stays cool.
For cooler evenings, pack a few long sleeved shirts, sweaters or a light weight jacket.

A hundred Toyota and Mitsubishi vans are on the streets. Beeping all the time. If they see you walking, they will stop by you and ask you for a ride. Mostly, there are two of them. One is driving and the other one is sitting in the back and invite a people. Like everywhere in Egypt, you have to make a deal with them about the price. Don't give them more then a pound per person wherever you want to go. They will ask more, or, maybe, just continue driving but in a second other one will stop by you. Pay them when all of you company and you leave a van.
"Normal" taxi is more expensive than this one.

Make sure you arrange one trip to see some ancient historic site. Luxor is a good example. Valley of the Kings and Queens is impressive. This is included in a day trip. Downpoint is a 4,5 hour bus trip (one way) but all worth in an air conditioned bus.
