More about Serenity Makadi Heights
Just arrived back from 2 weeks at Carols (now called serenity makadi heights). The hotel was lovely deffo 5*. The rooms were big with a comfy bed!!!! Free safe in your room, towels changed daily and room cleaned every day.
Booked a twin room with a sea view. The only difference between a sea view room and a normal room is that the sea veiw over looks the hotel complex ie. pools etc where as the normal over looks the desert which isnt too great but you can still see the sea.
The food at the hotel is ok but becomes very repetative by your 4th day. If you are looking for home from home food then you will be very disappointed as the food is catered for eastern european as is the whole hotel. We were amongst a handful of Brits the rest were either German, Russian, Polish or Italian. Overall the food is ok but not 5* but there is always something to eat even if its just a cheese sandwich. I would advise that you go for tea at 6.30 when it first opens as the food is luke warm by 7pm and there is no microwave provided.
You dont have to be up at the crack of dawn to get a sun bed as there are plenty provided by the different pools. The pools are cleaned daily and are a welcome break to the heat which was 40 degrees when we were there.
The evening entertainment is Ok but could do with more variety as after the first week it repeats itself but is worth watching.
Trips are best booked via your rep. We booked a trip to Cairo and it was brill. We paid £53 each but was well worth it. It took 6hrs by coach but the option to fly was available.
overall the hotel was brill. Would deffo go back.
Best Holiday Ever!!!!!! We Love Carols Makadi!!!!
Went to Egypt and stayed at Carols Makadi with my girlfriend (got back 4th/5th May). If you don't enjoy this holiday and love the hotel there must be something wrong with you!
Staff - First class, excellent manners and service!!!
Grounds - Breathtaking scenery and landscape.
Food - Very good buffet, excellent a la carte.
Pools - Numerous, clean, great water features.
Drinks - Huge selection (lager is brilliant).
Entertainment - Not particularly impressed by stage performaces, disco is excellent, animation team are not forceful but let you know when something is happening.
OVERALL - Genuine 5* hotel, I've stayed at a few and this was the best by far!
Please please ignore all bad reviews, it would seem that some of these people were at a completely different hotel! It really baffles me as to why these people bother going away in the first place, if you don't love this hotel and the holiday you will probably never enjoy yourself abroad. Everyone we met in this hotel had the holiday of a life-time, except one middle aged couple who spent the entire holiday complaining about thier last holiday in Cuba.
Anyway.... the holiday in more detail:-
GOOD FOOD buffet is excellent, should always find something that you like, there was one situation when some of the food got a little bit cold, we told one of the many people there to help you and they immediately brought out a fresh batch. Remember you are in a different country so it isn't your traditional fish'n'chips. There is an amazing huge selection of desserts which anyone with a sweet tooth will love. Personally I really miss the Beef Kofka (a beef suasage with herbs). If you are a very fussy eater the italian is excellent (try the sausage and ham pizza) and very very cheap. A starter and main meal for 2 people cost us less than £5 (Stirling). Never had to wait for a table, if you go as soom as the restuarant opens you might have to because the germans and russians all seem to be in a bit of a hurry.
AMAZING GROUNDS AND POOLS there are 2 salt water pools with swim up bars (try them, don't know why but we actually preffered the salt water ones) the grounds of the hotel are soooooo amazing. The main fresh water pool has some astonishing water features, they do often play music by this pool but not by the others. There is also a fresh water heated pool (use the non heated ones, it is a great feeling once your in and keeps you cool for about 1 minute when you get out).
STAFF Could not have been any nicer, friendlier or more accomodating if they tried (note - we did not tip any of the staff until we were leaving). It was someones birthday while we were there and they gave the whole family plus me and my girlfriend a free meal in the italian restuarant and all sang happy birthday with baloons and all the trimmings! If you do tip the man who cleans your room he will probably do some very special towell art every day. Some staff will approach you during the day, it is worth seeing what they have to offer as there are some great deals. If you decide you are not interested they will leave you alone.
BEACH AND ACTIVITIES - Take a snorkel and mask, the beach at Carols Makadi is the best in the whole area for seeing thousands and thousands of amazing fish. The sea is very shallow until you reach the coral, then there is a huge drop, like a cliff made of coral and thousands of beautiful brightly coloured fish will be casually swimming around right under you nose. It can be a bit awkward to get past the bit that drops but they were buiding a platform to go out there when we were there. Beach itself has good facilities, pleanty of room, bar nearby. If you want to do snorkelling but don't fancy walking out to the Coral book with Sa'id from Tiger Marina (don't book anything with your rep cos it is much better and cheaper with Sa'id). We went Scuba diving for the first time (book with Sami) and would recommend it to anyone, they will do an introductoring lesson in the pool also. We saw dolphins while out on the boat and must say that the scuba diving and snorkelling are one of the most memorable things I have done in my whole life!
ENTERTAINMENT this was the only thing that left anything to be desired, bit selfish, but I think the kids part went on for too long (but I would think that cos I havn't got any). Stage performances were average. Disco afterwards is whatever you make it, if you want to have a boogie and some giggles you can. If you just want to get drinks and sit in any of the large amount of seats immediately outside or even in the lobby then you can do that too.
POINTS TO CLARIFY FROM OTHERS REVIEWS
1. Pools were spotless
2. Staff REALLY could not have been more helpful or friendly
3. Food was excellent
4. Very clean
I have added many of my holiday photos so that you know this is genuine!
not bad at all
just spent a week here as two couples. Have been to pyramisa and mirabel beach, both at sharm last year. The mirabel is special but this was ok.
tip the waiters early on and we never had to go to the bar again. In fact we were told off when we tried.
The hotel is on a long slope down to the beach. The beach would be about the best of the 3 hotels mentioned and now that the pontoon out to the reef edge is finished getting into the sea is no problem.
Everything inside the hotel was fine except for the food that was the usual fare but cold. The italian and seafood restaurants were fine at a reasonable cost.
Although "new" the build quality is poor so dont go in a couple of years because it will be falling down.
You are out of the way but we didnt mind. The massage and trip sellers around the pool were a pain but after a couple of days they leave you alone. The animation team are bored because the brits didnt join in. They are a good bunch who always had a word and a laugh. Go there if you paying less than £400.00 ea.
Great weather, fantastic complex, fabulous staff
Only got back from Carols Makadi Bay yesterday morning and just had to write and tell everyone what a brilliant place it is. Was unfortunate enough of the eighth day of our fortnight's holiday to slip on a step and break a bone in my ankle - this was due to a guest spilling something on our apartment steps, not the fault of the cleaners. Both my husband and myself had been treated very well up to my accident but afterwards, well I was totally blown away by the kindness of literally everyone who was working there, from cleaners, waiters, gardeners bar staff, beach and pool attendants, right through to the restaurant manager Hossieny Ahmed and his assistant Mohamed Salman and all the front of house staff, including reception and customer services, no-one could have done more for me and I truly was treated like royalty. Even Amr Haroun, Front Office Manager, sent me a lovely letter together with a large plate of fresh fruit. The complex itself is some thirty five minutes drive from Hurghada, although there is a twice daily return shuttle bus from the complex costing five Euros each return, there are also taxis standing at the complex and the cost is twenty five Euros per taxi return to Hurghada, so if you want more than the complex can give, that is an option for you but I must admit, I personally wasn't that impressed with Hurghada itself. There are a dozen or so shops on the complex itself and it looks as if there will be more shortly in the upstairs area near the Italian restaurant. There are actually three al a carte restaurants - the Italian, the Oriental (Egyptian) and the Harbour Sea Food restaurant on the beach. If you go to the Oriental especially, for less than a tenner a couple, you can get a brilliant three course meal but a word of warning, don't purchase a bottle of wine from there otherwise it will cost you twelve pounds fifty pence, instead request free glasses from the main restuarant - the rose is extremely palatable. There are six swimming pools, a pool bar serving snacks and drinks, plus three further drinks bars, two of which you could actually swim up to. There is nothing wrong with the food, in fact you are spoilt for choice, although if you want chips, chips and more chips then go to the pool bar cos you won't get them in the main restaurant.. Rooms are large and well furnished with two small double beds in each, a mini fridge and even tea and coffee making facilities (including kettle and mugs). Cabaret is varied but the animation team work hard and there is always something going on during the day. Gardeners are working constantly, forever watering the lawns and planting more shrubs. The complex is huge and it probably takes ten minutes to walk from the main buildings down to the beach but there is a gentle breeze blowing there so keeps the temperatures a little more comfortable as it was nearing 40 degrees each day whilst we were there, however there were always plenty of sunbeds and parasols available wherever you decided to sunbathe. To sum up a brilliant holiday, hospitality second to none and definitely hope to return again in the not too distant future to enjoy all that is on offer but this time as an able bodied person and not someone in a wheelchair! So, if you get a good deal (remember it's all-inclusive) take it and enjoy, just remember though, if you are British, you are likely to be in the minority as there are a lot of other nationalities there too, mostly Russian, Italian and German but we all seemed to get on well.
just back yesterday enjoyed the hotel and staff very friendly and attentive food was aimed at eastern european taste but always something for the brits there.
went on a couple of trips luxor for a day, very long 6 am start back at 10,very very hot in june 50degrees plus and jeep safari showing the true desert people both very informative .
Went diving the fish and corals were superb though seeing reef shark close up bit worrying.
Overall cant fault hotel worried before we went very happy to recommend on return
Carols Makadi Bay is fine
Very good. There for last week of June.
Lovely hotel with good rooms, plenty of choice of food. Loads of sun loungers round the five pools and private beach. Remember to tip the staff early on and you get excellent service. Great scuba diving with Sammi and the guys at aquariusredsea. Saw reef shark, dolphin, Spotted Ray, lionfish, stonefish, parrotfish,
You have to use a jetty and ladders to get over the coral reef into sea but it's not difficult and helps protect the reef.
Fantastic trip into the desert by 4x4 to see the Bedouin, including camel rides, bread making, singing, bbq, oasis, and desert sunset.
Agree with the other positive comments.
Hotel had just started using red/green markers to indicate if you wanted attention from sales staff but polite no thanks worked anyway.
The shopkeepers in Makadi Bay were more persistant then the ones in Hurgada, but we had been warned what to expect. You have to haggle over prices in most shops.
I'll add some photos later.
Arrived back from Carols in Hurghada this morning.
Thought the hotel was very well presented with marble floors and the additional decor was very tasteful.
Loved the rooms, loads of space, comfortable beds but the shower done it for me, a walk in one and it was very roomy.
The hotel grounds were well maintained and perfectly landscaped. Several pools, 2 sea water and the others were fresh water. We stayed by the main pool most of the time as usually something going on with the animation team (of which I must say was the worst......but did amuse us watching them), although didn't take part in much it just seemed to occupy you by watching.
They have 2 swim up bars in the sea water pools, plenty of sunbeds although was getting a little crowded by our 2nd week, i imagine if you got down by the pool after 10am you may struggle for a sunbed, but the pool attendants are very helpful and would happily go and get you one from another pool area, assuming there is space around the main pool.
They have built the jetty now so no struggling to get out to snorkel, and they fish are amazing, we took some bread rolls down with us to feed them, absolutely loads of fish swarm around you and even take it from you hand, in fact was trying to eat my hand also, but they are harmless.
There is an attendant on the edge of the jetty just incase anyone gets in trouble, but also they don't usually allow you to feed the fish so we heard, but no one approached us.
Sammi is the one you see for scuba diving and we booked our snorkling trips with Hassan, you can barter for better price, the best snorkling trip we done was fishing and snorkling and hired a private boat with the crew for £220, there was 8 of us so worked out good value, probably could get him to come down in price more but we thought it was good value for a whole day and lunch provided.
A word of advice regarding your health, don't bother taking runny tummy tablets with you.....they won't work! you need some heavy duty stuff and as carols have a pharmacy on site it is easier to go and have a word with them, although he will try selling the men Viagra!, all of us had runny tummies except my eldest son, within 1 day of taking these tablets you could eat and drink again, it cost us £14 for anti bacterial tablets, salt solution like dioralyte and anti dirrahoea tablets.
I am sure it's not the food that is dodgy but just a conbination of different food, alochol and heat! and flip me, it' hot! Most days reached 38 degrees and at night was around 26 degrees.
The Pizzeria is the best and we ate there 3 times, cost around £2 per pizza as you get 20 egyptian pounds off for being all inclusive, obviously the buffet is at no extra charge.
Lots of poeple walking around with injuries due to bad lighting in some area's........take a torch if you want to go wondering at night.
Would i go back????? No, but only because the world is too big and too many other places to see.
All in all very good holiday and good value..........hope you enjoy it too.
Take a torch
Take a pack of cards as evening entertainment needs alot of brushing up on.
Fill you water bottles up from the water coolers instead of asking for fresh bottle, as they are always warm.
Haggle prices even on excursions.
Grab a sunbed before breakfast (us English are becoming more like the Germans and Russians everyday!).
Change your Money at Hurghada airport, better deal than in the UK, you won't get a better deal down town as Egypt has a goverment fixed rate on foreign exchange.
wonderful hotel but!!
we stayed in this beautiful hotel the first week in September. When we arrived we were very impressed, we arrived at 11 o'clock at night and we were glad that the restaurant had stayed open for our arrival it usually closes at 10pm. Our troubles started a few hours later when at 1.30am I had to go and ask the bell captain where our luggage was . From that day on I had to complain every day and beleive me I'm not a hard to please person I just don't like to be taken the mickey out of. The service was awful, for two days on the run there was no coke , fanta etc when I asked why they just kept saying "one minute" After two days of the kids asking me why they couldn't have a coke (botteled coke was available if you payed for it!!) I started to get quite angry and asked to speak to the guest relation manager , he was quite suprised and told me that mine was the third complaint since they had opened. I can quite understand why because if you don't speak english you can't complain( I live in Italyand alot of the italians were quite upset about the awful servicebut could'nt complain ) and my mom told me that the british don't complain they just don't go there again. Anyway after me complaining things started to work properly , so my advice is at the first thing that goes wrong in this wonderful hotel( and I do mean it the hotel is really nice , the rooms are great ) complain straight away.Another peice of advice if you are not an expert swimmer go to sharm instead of Hurghada because the sea can get very rough there. overall if you are looking for a relaxing holiday without kids because the kids club is the worst Ihave ever seen this place is quite relaxing it never seems to be overcrowded, when we were there Iwas told that there was over 1000 people in the hotel and yet it seemed empty the place is huge .
Well what can i say, this really was a fanatastic holiday.
The hotel was extremely clean, staff very friendly and helpful, the pool was lovely and beautifull grounds. You can find a lot of photos of Carols Makadi on my webpage hajkik.com
hotel good, needs a bit of tweaking in the food department.
splendid hotel, rooms and staff very helpful, restaurant far too small for the number of holidaymakers, only one dish of each choice, constantly running out of plates cups, glasses etc. choice of food boring and whatever theme night did not make much difference really. Bit of a mad scram at meal times.
