Shuttle bus is must
by Niklas1972
There are three shuttle bus lines in El Gouna.
1. Downtown line between Moevenpick hotel and downtown.
2. Marina line between Downtown and Abu Tig Marina (trough Sheraton Miramar)
3. Golf line from downtown to Golf course
In addition the weekly shuttle bus ticket (10 LE per person) is valid for shutlle boats (between downtown and Zeytona beach and between downtown and Moevenpick hotel).
If you are in hurry or want to take transportation from 'door to door' you can order tok-tok (5 LE per person) or take taxi (El Gouna limousine service).
Best way to learn the city is start by driving all three shuttle bus lines trough at the very begining of your holliday.

we arrived at the sheraton miramar in el gouna, and from day one we were looked after wonderfully, the hotel was fabulous, the staff marvelous, the food was exceptional, we stayed in room 5112 overlooking the pool and it was a beautiful room, anything you wanted the staff would do their upmost to get it for you, i will be returning to the sheraton miramar again, it was certainly one of the best hotels ive stayed in, downtown and the marina was fab, as was the food wherever we ate, the tok tok,s were fun (a 3 wheeler taxi) this hotel is a top 5 star hotel, a must for anyone going to el gouna.
Excellent Hotel , superb holiday!!

Basically echo-ing what every other review has said, this hotel is superb!
The staff (& Egyption people) can't do enough for you.
Very clean hotel, great rooms , excellent breakfast (we went B&B).
Eating out is very cheap downtown or at the marina.
Weather in october was HOT! but with a nice breeze.
Never got hastled outside the hotel grounds (as i have heard you do in places like sharm etc).
Security was excellent.
Not much more to say really , i read reviews on tripadvisor before i go on holiday , they help me to book which hotel i stay in, when reading the reviews for the Sheraton Miramar i saw all the reviews were excellent , these people are all spot on!!
Book it, you won't be disapointed.

Just returned from a week at the Sheraton Miramar and would definitely give the hotel a big thumbs up,the perfect location for a Winter sun getaway 26 degrees by day but a chilly 14 in the evening,so if you are going take a jumper or jacket just in case.Rooms,Staff,Food and clenliness are all first class with the gardens and flowers in the common areas superb. The only downside was the quality of entertainment offered with the music in the Miramar bar not starting till 11pm,by this time the bar was often deserted.Don't go expecting the drinks to be cheap,a spirit and a mixer will set you back £5.00 and it is a measure you would get in London, with wine starting at £13.00 Egyptian and not very nice.Imported wine starts at about £35.00 and the skies the limit with Champagne a whopping £90.
On the whole a great location with the Marina very close (well worth a trip).Would definitely return and recommend.

Just returned from 2 weeks in the Sheraton Miramar and had a lovely holiday the staff are wonderful, friendly and helpful one thing however the hotel is a comfortable resort hotel of a 4 star not 5 star quality, however don't be put of because it is definately the best hotel in El Gouna aving checked the others out.The shuttle bus system is fantastic value and service as are the Tok Tok's to get around 10 Egyptian per journey and the shuttle bus is 10 per week unlimited travel.Only bad experience was at The Captain's Inn at Abu Tig Marina we paid £50 for 2 steaks ,1 beer,1 coke and 2 coffees so be warned. The Beer Garden in down town is excellent value good food.Visit the shops on the Main Square in downtown call 1000 wishes beautiful towels and 100% organic soaps. If traveling in next few weeks take plenty of factor 30 minimum as you really do need it here I used 45 for first week and then 30 rest of the time as it is hot, hot , hot!!
If you enjoy massage they are good value at the hotel for £18 full body and my other half had a hot shave at the beauty salon which was an experience. We have been to Egypt many times and El Gouna is great for relaxing but you must remember it is a man made resort which does tend to lack that old character of some part of Egypt but never the less I would still recommend the resort as a Red Sea Resort as we had a lovely time.
great relaxing time in cloudless skies

We have just returned from a wonderful weeks holiday in the lovely resort of El Gouna(Nov 8-15 2005). We stayed in the Sheraton Miramar and have no complaints. sunbeds were plenty, service was prompt and friendly, rooms were very spacious and clean, the swimming pool was heated (which was necesary for that extra comfort).
We enjoyed kayaking , cycing , walking and participating in exercise classes when we felt like it, but mainly we relaxed in the endless sunshine with the temperature reaching 80 deg, although it is very comfortable, as there is always a breeeze.
One word of warning, the sun has gone down by 4.45pm and it is pitch black by 5.15pm. it also feels cool at night and a long sleeved top is a must for anybody normal, particually when travelling on the open-sided local buses, which are great value at the cost of 10 LE per week (one pound sterling).
We didnt eat much in the Hotel, other than breakfast and a few snacks which were excellent, because there are so many nice restaurants around the resort. The Jewel in the crown being the Abu tig Marina which has many nice Restaurants and Shops. We had nice meals at a reasonable cost at La Scala, Bleu Bleu, Le Deauville, Tandori and studio 52. It was always nice to finish the night with a couple of drinks in the smugglers bar talking to fellow Brits and ex pats. Will somebody please take out a jar of Branston Pickle and English cheese for which they crave.
There are also nice places to eat downtown e.g Kikis and Jobos amongst others, which tend to be a bit chaper than the Marina.
I would recommend a holiday here, for people wanting Winter sun, not really wanting to see the real Egypt, but an artificial self contained resort, friendly, safe, with a meditteranian feel.
Note: although there is plenty of developement going on, with plans for a second Golf course and another new Marina in the pipeline, because the resort is so spread out, most developement will go un-noticed and will certainly not affect any present Hotels.
El Gouna

Last December was just a great month 4 me. I'd planned a little suprise anniversary trip to El Gouna for me and hubby. It was supposed to be for 5 days, but then we got a call from my family, telling us to cut our trip short cuz the long planned, on again-off again and, then eventually cancelled trip to KL was on again and we were leaving the day after we got back from El Gouna! Now that was a really nice suprise....highlight of my year and a great end to it!
Anyway....we still got to spend 4 days in El Gouna, which were very relaxing, romantic and peaceful. El Gouna is a very beautiful place for swimming, relaxing and just getting away from it all. But again, I have to repeat what many have said before me, this is not a place for partying and excitement or nightlife. As a matter of fact, it's pretty much boring at night. They try very hard to create an atmosphere, they even organize beach parties and everything...still it's not working very well as far as I can tell. I guess it also depends on the timing. We happened to be there during one of the quieter periods. So if u want sun, beach, pool, relaxation, good food, romance, peace, natural surroundings, this is ur place. If ur looking 2 party and go wild, go to Sharm or Hurghada.

"El Gouna Safe away from the hassle"
El Goouna is a lovely man made resort with several high class hotels. A shuttle bus connects them all to the 2 shopping and dining areas.
The place is free from the beggars and touts that are found almost everywhere INCLUDING THE AIRPORT.
Everyone in Egypt seems to be looking for tips to eke out their existance. This even extends to hotels receptionists who manage to find better rooms etc.
"Valley of the Kings"
This is a must, we flew, others went by road BUT YOU HAVE A ARMED ARMY ESCORT ACROSS THE DESERT!
HANG ONTO YOUR CASES AT AIRPORTS, IF YOU LET GO THE TOUTS WILL CARRY THEM A FEW YARDS AND DEMAND MONEY.

Sheraton miramar or movenpick?!
by Kaemmed
Hi!
I have a question..
I would like to go to El Gouna, cause i´ve heard great things about it.
But i really can´t decide which hotel to stay at! Search results on the internet shows a bunch, but i have now narrowed it down to only two:
Sherathon Miramar or Movenpick <-- which hotel is best?!?!
I know, i know - it problably depends on what i wanna do in my vacation, scuba etc.
Butt still, if anyone has stayed here or just heard about them i would like to hear from you!
Thank you all for making this a great page!
- Chris
