Good hotel with the basics
The hotel was very pleasant. The restaraunts served basic food, not a huge amount of imagination but not bad either. The rooms were in good condition but it's important to understand that like Europe a double room means 2 twin beds.
My only "complaint" was that the pool was really cold, they could use some solar heating there.
Unique Quality: The pool was very beautiful, facilities were fairly new but something I noticed at almost all hotels is that maintenance is not very good so the older hotels suffer as they waste away.

It was 50% biz, and the rest for leisure. I enjoyed my time there but the only negative part was the distance from the hotel to the action spot especially when u r out of the club very late and need to get home.
Unique Quality: They have a good recreation team.Nice view at night and a disco pub kind of place which is not crowdd normaly.

Enjoy like a pharaoh
Melia Pharaoh belongs to a Spanish hotel group that has 350 hotels in many countries on 4 continents. The Egyptian Melia hotel keeps the high standards of the Melia group. I liked everything about it, the ambience, the room, food, service, cleanliness, everything was just perfect. Melia Pharaoh is situated on the beach about 15 km out of Hurghada. It has its own beautiful beach, and there is a small coral reef very close to the shore with many exotic fish just beneath the water surface.

Sun, sea, sand - what more could you ask for!The beach was superb and we could always find a sunbed whenever we went down. The hotel-owned coral is just as good as what we saw on the boat trip - just get right round the back. It's fabulous. The food was consistently good throughout - with my boyfriends digging into four courses at breakfast.
Beautiful hotel in Hurghada
by miman about Melia Pharaoh Hotel
4 nights and 3 full days was too short a time to stay in this excellent hotel. We had just go to a Nile Cruise. The Melia is the perfect place to relax. Note that not all rooms have sea view as one reviewer commented, we were in the annexe off the main building, which looked inland - wasn't too much of a problem but a room in the main building or a bungalow would be preferable if you can. There seems to be loads of activities, which is probably a good thing since Hurghada as a town did not seem at all worth it to us - if leaving the hotel premises is important to you, you may want to look for a different area. There weren't a huge amount of dining options (3 restaurants if I remember correctly), but the quality was fine. The grounds are spacious and well kept, the pool is enormous and everything is well-maintained. The beach area is lovely, and the best part for us was the whole reason for going - snorkelling off coral reefs. Amazing experience, and the hotel's dive centre was reasonably competent in organising it.

Le Meridien or Melia Pharoh
by chumps
I'm going to Hurghada next week for 7 days and have not booked the accomodation yet. I can't decided between Le Meridien (i've heard lots of mixed reports) or Melia Pharaoh. Am travelling with a two year old. Any suggestions?

Le Meridien is actually in Makaadi Bay about a 40 minute drive away from Hurghada. Now Egyptian owned. Not a lot for a 2 year old. It does have a kid's club. Be aware that German & Russian guests far outnumber British in Both Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh.
The Melia Pharaoh is on the outskirts of Hurghada. Not so isolated. It is quite easy to get a local bus into 'town' whether that be the touristy part Sekalla or downtown 'Dahar'.
Anything else, pm me.

Thanks for your help - do you know which hotel actually has the better reputation? And if I choose Melia Pharaoh, how much should I be paying for a taxi from the airport?

Pay no more than 30 LE = £3.00 from the airport to the Melia. Taxi driver will ask for a lot more. Will probably ask for Euro. Tell him you don't have any.
I can't give an honest opinion on the reputations but Melia seem to have less complaints!
