Luxurious Hotel
You definitely must stay at the Mena House Oberoi. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to be greeted upon your arrival, as we were, by a brass band dressed as ancient Egyptians playing the Grand March from Aida.

Ah.... What can I say? I had the most serene, peaceful time at the The Oberoi, Sahl Hasheesh...
By the Red Sea... away from the common din...this place is awesome. We stayed at one of the many incredibly beautiful cottages which was the most relaxing part of our trip to Egypt. This was the last leg of our trip and after an incrediblly hectic trip otherwise..there was no better way to end it chilling by the Red Sea Coast. I loved everything about the hotel..
Unique Quality: Spa, Pool, Incredible view of the Red Sea actually you get to chill by the beach... Scuba Diving, Snorkelling.... some of the facilities...
This is by far the most magnificent hotel i've spent a holiday in so far.
Located on the beaches of the red sea with its private beach area, swimming pool, spa facilities, diving facilities and eating/drinking facilities this resort really has everything to make your vacation a succes!
The local people are very humble (sometimes too humble) and will do anything to serve you during your vacations. If in return you give them a small tip they'll spoil you with small extras during the remainder of your stay.
The suites are spread throughout the resort and there are a few different suite types. For a little extra you can have a suite on the beach and this is definately worth it. If not you might have a suite located deeper down the resort and it might take you a daily walk to get to the beach. No worries though: if you want to you can have the caddy come pick you up and drive you to the restaurant, pool or beach.
The suites themselves are magnificent: you have a spacious living room with a minibar and TV. Additionally the bedroom also has a TV and a huge bed. Next to the bedroom are the dressing room (with safe) and the bathroom. The bathroom is beautiful: it has a shower and huge bath which give into a small private garden. Outside of the suite there is your private garden with you 2 deckchairs and dining corner - excellent for having a late breakfast and dinner.
Book this hotel if you're in for a luxury treat and a relaxed vacation. Don't go there if you want to see things and explore the area.
Unique Quality: Great service and facilities.

The Oberoi Philae is one of the finest vessels to cruise the Nile. At the time I stayed on it it was way ahead of it's class with good cabins, extremely fine food, excellent friendly staff and surroundings beyond expectations.
I particularly enjoyed the refreshing misters on the deck which keep you cool and keep the mosquitos away and I spent hours in the pool. The best way to see Egypts treasures and temples is on a Nile cruise. If you are thinking of going for the cheapest cruise think twice first, the Oberoi Philae, being the most prestigious and important at the time was allowed to dock on the banks in the best spot, often it's own. All passengers of other vessels have to walk from ship to ship to get to land as they don't moore on the banks but in rows next to each other.
The Mena House hotel from the Marriot and Oberoi Chain is definitely one of Cairo’s best hotels and the only hotel with a real view of the pyramids. Sitting there in the conservatory having a cup of coffee and cake looking outside you can be overwhelmed by the size and splendour of the Pyramids.
I have two favorite hotels in Cairo - the Cairo Marriott on the island of Zamalek in the middle of the Nile, and the world famous Mena House (an Oberoi Hotel) by the Pyramids. Both are clean, well-appointed and luxurious (by Egyptian standards) in good locations and have great gardens and wonderful Arabic decor.
In Cairo we stayed 2 days in the beautiful Mena House Oberoi Hotel, located in the shadow of the pyramids. The next day of our stay we were on the Nile cruiser, Ramses King of the Nile.
It was once a colonial hunting palace just at the road coming down from the pyramids. All rooms have a view of at least one pyramid. And don't miss a night at the Sultan Bar of the hotel... Agatha Christie comes alive again... The location, the atmosphere and, of course, the suites in the main building with your own garden!!!
This hotel was once a royal palace. It's rated as one of the best hotels in the world and having been there I couldn't dissagree. There are many things that make this special but if you need only one excuse to stay there it is a stones throw from the Pyramids and has the most beautiful Pyramid views to sleep and wake to. One of the best Indian restaurants in the world but not cheap. Even the reception has a musical quartet to welcome you. A unique and unrivaled view of the great Pyramids.
There are two parts to this hotel. The historic bit which will cost you an arm and a leg, and the modern part which only costs an arm. You can still have all the benefits of history if you stay in the modern part.
There's a huge pool where you'll see the tourists with little on, and the locals shletering under trees fully dresed
And there are so many restaruants. Good value. Expensive but good value. This is where Churchill and Roosevelt planned the Normandy landings. The heavy wooden floors creak with history. Just stop and soak it up.
We are thinking of going to this hotel in summer. We've done Luxor, Cairo, Sharm Taba & Hurghada. Does anyone have any idea about the price of food in the hotel restaurants?
According to my Egyptian friend this hotel is very good, but expensive. Also far away from from the center of town, no other restaurants around than the ones in the hotel. The average price of a diner in this hotel is about 40$ per person.
Never been there myself though. I like to spend my money in another way.
Love, Dora.
This is a great hotel that worth the money paid for and dont miss being there. The food price will be the same level of the hotel. Sorry but cant give a direct answer cause there are many variables for it.
Cheers
Sorry to be blunt but the people who do go there do not need to ask if it is expensive.
It is a superb deluxe resort for people who want the best and are not worried about how much it costs.

You are correct, you are blunt! And quite rude with it! I asked the question about the price of dinner was to guage how much to put on our AMEX travel cheque card. A secure way of carrying money without the penalties you normally get from changing money or travel cheques. When we stayed at the Luxor Movenpick I found that whenever I went to the in house bank to change money the cashier inevitably tried to short-change me. This did not happen when my husband changed his money.
We always stay in luxury hotels and do not worry about how much things are costing as we always take sufficient funds. How is it that when someone asks the price of a taxi from one town to another they don't get comments like "take the bus if you need to ask the price" .
Thanks Dora,
Very useful!

Great service and facilities.
