Even if it wasn't as good as it is, I would still have stayed a night at the Mena Palace. It would have had to be downright terrible for me not to have enjoyed the history, the atmosphere and -most of all -the fabulous location. As it was, it was just as I expected -a little worn around the extremities but still a very gracious old lady of a place. I'd certainly stay here again.
Unique Quality: Modern glass and marble hotels area dime a dozen, but once inside they all look the same wherever you are in the world. There isn't another hotel oin the world that can offer what the Mena Palace does - the setting is incomparable. The sight of the Pyramids looming up over the gardens here is more than enough reason for you to book yourself one night at least - preferably in the old section of the hotel - the 19th century palace that gave the hotel its name. Even if it's beyond your budget, do stop by for a drink, or come out for a meal here. For nearly one hundred and fifty years now the hotel has been a Cairo institution, long may that continue.
