Felluca rides
by sswagner
We enjoyed two boat rides in Egypt. One was a motorized boat in Luxor. it would have been a felluca, but the wind was not strong enough at the time. However in Cairo, we did have conditions just right for a ride near sunset. We actually arranged our ride through one of the tour companies in conjuction with other activities. I figure it would no be too difficult to hire one of these boats for a little while. They will make a fine memory as you float on the calmness of the Nile amidst a very frantic city. The Nile is very scenic, whether it is in the middle of the city or in Upper Egypt. Sunset seems to be a good time as it is not too hot and a breeze can appear. Some may believe this to be too "touristy", but I really do believe that most people walk away from the felluca glad that they took the ride. I wish we had some of these in Texas! Floating along the calmm peaceful waters of the ancient river Nile.

See Khan el-Khalili. One of the most amazing bazaars I've ever seen. Everything happens in this area. Some of the city's most impressive mosques are also in the area. Going to the Cairo Opera House to watch an Orchestra perform under the nights sky.

Walk the streets of Cairo.

Walking around Cairo was a wonder in itself. I realised quite quickly that this city was nothing like my native London, and quickly grew to love the people and the relaxed way of life. Hot and Dusty but the people always smile and are helpful.
you must drink ibiscus tea
by call_me_rhia
Each country should have its own speciaity - foodwise and drinkwise. A friend, married to an Egyptian man, insisted that Egypt's must-try ought to be "Ibiscus tea". Of course she forgot to mention it's not a hot tea.
Anyway the famed Ibiscus tea came - and what a suprise it was: the colour is ruby red, and the taste delicious - naturally sweet but not too sweet. Thanks for your advice, Lucille.
