Grand Hyatt Cairo

We recently stayed at the Grand Hyatt Cairo. This is definitely a hotel for tourist who want a great location but have low expectations for customer service. As a platinum Gold Passport member I received horrible treatment at this hotel. I had to wait 3.5 hours to check into my room at 3:00pm in the afternoon. The internet fees are ridiculous and everyone uses the Club Lounge to access the internet so this place can get crowed quickly. The food offerings in the Club Lounge are not impressive and the service was bad. The wait staff stand around and look out of the window staring at the Nile and are not attentive to the guest. The Club Lounge is poorly designed and the smoking section upstairs makes this a smoking lounge since the smoke will come into the open area downstairs of the Club Lounge. We stayed in a suite and the housekeeping staff take things out of the rooms without asking. The revolving restaurant on the 40th floor is quite impressive although the food is very mediocre at best. This hotel caters to business people and tourist from the U.A.E. and they seem to receive better treatment than Western guests. I had a women come up to my suite in full hajab soliciting sex one Saturday night before my wife arrived to the hotel. We returned to the hotel after a trip to Luxor that was magnificent but the staff assigned us to a room with a plumbing issue and a very foul odor. This is not the expectation I would have at a Grand Hyatt and I have stayed at most of the major ones around the World. The management tend to provide a token response as if they care about your concerns but they have very high occupancy so they really do not care about the concerns of their VIP guests. This hotel has a great location but does not live up to the potential of it's lobby and location for the money. I would consider the Four Seasons across the street before considering this hotel in the future. The benefits of the hotel is that it is good for Western tourists that tend to be scared to venture out and want security and overpriced services and the "perception" of a secure hotel. Please also note that this is a "dry" hotel that does not serve alcohol except in the 40th floor revolving restaurant!!!

Unique Quality: Great location and spa and fitness center along with various restaurants choices on the lower level. The overall services offered are very good but you will have to pay a premium for them.

Luxury Hotel, Great Location, Scenic Views

The Grand Hyatt Cairo recently opened after taking over the old "Le Meridien" and building a new tower next to it. Located on the tip of Roda Island off the elegant Garden City, in the heart of Cairo, the hotel offers excellent views of the Nile and beyond, extending all the way to the Pyramids. It is also close to downtown Cairo and many of the major attractions, yet feels secluded given that it is on an island. The hotel offers all of the 5 star amenities that one would need, including a pool by the Nile as shown in the attached photos (yes, bikinis are allowed!).

cairo's best dinner view

While I didn't stay here, I did wander though the opluent lobby on my way to dinner in the revolving restaurant. It has the best lobby in Cairo and even better views from the restaurant. The food was very good, as was the service, but one goes for the views after the sun sets, worth the taxi ride.

Cairo's Luxurios Hotel

This hotel is fancy and romantic for a couple going on vacation, where they don't mind to spend more, they're 's a pianist in the lobby , and a great atmospheres both indoors and outdoors especailly if u want to relax after a day of sightseeing! They have a nice seating on the dock overlooking the nile where; they serve cuisine dinners , they also have an arabian style tent where they serve food and warm Pita bread coming straight out of the clay ovens , u see women dressed an old egytpian attire making the bread.. They also have a japenese style restaurant in the hotel
The service is spectacular, the staff is friendly and willing on making ur stay more pleasurable..

I don't recommend it ,if ur on a low budget, but, stop by, just to check out the place, it's a pretty hotel

More about Grand Hyatt Cairo

Best view of the Nile

by lagitane about The Grand Hyatt, Roda Island

We stayed at the Grand Hyatt, Cairo for 4 days end of March this year.
If you are looking for a classy hotel with all 5 star amenities, a great view from the room, good customer service then this is a great choice. The hotel has a variety of restaurants, a cineplex, shopping gallery. We had a lovely view of the river Nile and Cairo city (pls see attached pic)

The front desk staff are very courteous and quick to help. Room service was excellent. Great views!
Well trained and courteous staff.

Very Overrated. Very tired.

by TripAdvisor Member matie000

Spent 4 nights in Cairo in October. Since I am a Gold Passport member, I opted to stay at the Grand Hyatt. However I only lasted one night there. The hotel is very dated, which would have been bearable, but on other fronts the hotel in general was tired, dreary and quite dirty. Our room was dirty and smelled, and we couldn't wait to get out.

So the next day we transferred to the Four Seasons First Residence, and for about the same money I was amazed at the difference in quality, service and the overall standard of the hotel. The room was spotlessly clean, wonderful furnishings, great bed, spacious and refreshing after the Not-so-Grand Hyatt.

I would definitely recommend giving a miss to the Grand Hyatt (and this is from a Gold passport Member) and head straight for the Four Seasons First Residence.

Hyatt was great!

My family stayed at the Grand Hyatt for a week this month and really enjoyed ourselves. First impression of the hotel was bright and airy atmosphere, fantastic view of the Nile and spotless. Security check points all over the property with sniffer dogs checking every vehicle coming onto the property so we felt very safe and secure. The hotel is situated on an island and has a lovely walkway running along the front of the property with table and chairs at the water edge. My mother and sister sat here to read quite often as its very safe since security gaurds are stationed all along this walkway to prevent any locals approaching the property. The hotel was in a nice area also with a promenade running up the nile which made a nice walk during the day.

The lobby had fantastic floor to ceiling windows that gave a great view of the Nile. The lobby is in two tiers with the upper level consisting of a open plan coffee shop and numerous comfy couches and chairs to relax on and the lower level comprising of a wide choice of restaurants. There we many restuarants to choose from and we were never stuck for choice. They have a restaurant set up as an english pub that was pretty cool. Food was excellent and the usual english grub on offer. The lobby was always alive no matter what time of the night with people sitting having tea and coffee etc which our party found was nice to finish off the evening as our party were not keen to walk out alone at night.

The rooms were standard 4 star in the west. Fantastic view of the Nile from our balcony! The beds were extremely comfortable. A dream after a tiring day of sightseeing! A change from the rock hard hotel mattresses we had in our previous trip to Egypt. The rooms are standard size a little bit on the small side but well appointed. The carpet could of done with a steam clean session as it had a few stains on it where previous guests had obviously spilled beverages on it but the furniture was in excellent condition. The bathroom was very large, appointed in black marble and a large mirror over the vanity unit. The only negative about the room was the shower partition was basicly useless. Very poorly designed as the glass door does not stop the water running along the ledge and onto the floor. So when we took showers we had to reside to using one of the bath towels to run along the bottom of the bath to absorb the water. We got wise after the second day and asked the maid to give us 3 bath towels from now on!

The pool was very inviting. Very clean and comfy cushions on the sun loungers. Pool attendants carry your pool towels and set you up on the loungers and the sun umbrella's if you require them as you sign in for entering the pool complex. The pool food menu was very good with standard club sandwiches on offer and hamburgers etc. Food was delicious and decent portions aswel. We found the prices very resonable.

Staff were extremely helpful and spoke good english which was a great asset when trying to explain something that you need but we found the reception personel were sometimes keen to only deal with the men in our party over the woman but maybe that just happened to be the two gentleman we coincidently had to deal with on those two days.

We also found the men were favoured over the woman in the shops in the accompaning mall that is attached to the hotel. The woman in our party went back to one of the shops the next day without the men and we were totally ignored and one man was down right rude. The shops were very expensive and on the upper end of the spectrum. The movie theatre we couldnt utilize as all the films were in Arabic. The hotel staff told us the pervious week had movies in english but the week we came apparently the Arabs start to come to the hotel for their vacations so the movies were switched to Arabic to cater to them.

On the whole it was a great hotel and we would definately return to stay at the Hyatt if we went back to Cairo on vacation.

Grand Hyatt is great.

We always have a nice time at the Grand Hyatt. It is in a wonderful location. It has an attached small shopping mall. There are a bunch of restaurants to choose from onsite. They have their own Nile Crusie that leaves from the hotel. The suites and executive lounge are great.

No hotel is perfect, but this one always seems to take good care of us.

Taxi fare from Cairo International Airport to Grand Hyatt, Cairo.

by ftho

Can any VT member be kind enough to advise the Taxi fare from Cairo International Airport to Grand Hyatt, Cairo. Your prompt reply will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

RE: Taxi fare from Cairo International Airport to Grand Hyatt, Cairo.

by Antje27

The taxi fare is 50 L.E. (approx. $ 9). They will definetly ask you for more and tell you: the way is very long & about the family... But usually if you not moving from this amount they will agree in the end. A little bit more will not hurt our wallet, but do not pay more then 70 L.E. You also can go to one of the limousine companies inside the airport or they will come to you and get a transfer there. Their cars (Toyota Corolla, Hyundai) are in better condition then the normal taxi. The price for these cars should be around 100 L.E.

Best idea is to take the CIT it's the new taxi in Cairo that you call them and they come in hte itme you want and there is a coutner that tell you how much to pay exactly without having to suffer dealing with the driver
also it's air condition and very good car is model of the year...
let me know if you want more informaiton regarding that..
I always use them in cairo...
By the way they will be the same like normal taxi in price since they start the counter by 3.5 le and then 1 le for every kilo
but it's better than the regular taxi also the regular taxi will ask you for alot of money since you are a tourist and from the airport to a hotell...

Thanks

Hi there
what an excellent choice of hotel you have picked there. It is absolutely fantastic.
A taxi ride should cost around 50-80 Egyptian pounds... Haggle well and you will get it cheap and the ride takes around 40 minutes depending on traffic.

Make sure you have the right money as they always say they have no change hehe.

Have a great trip.
