Great Value for Your Money!

Pretty decent hotel for the money. We paid $24.50 USD per night to stay here for 3 days, I have never been to a hotel in Egypt and paid that amount, for that price something is usually wrong this has been my experience and this is my husband's attitude and he is Egyptian!

Well I stand corrected. It is possible to find a nice, decent hotel without paying " an arm and a leg" for it. The outside grounds are beautiful and well kept. The hotel is in the process of being upgraded and there is some minor cosmetic repair going on. The rooms were clean and
neat, especially the bathroom, and as a whole you can tell alot about your hotel room if the bathroom is clean, and this bathroom was immaculate! The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean.

The free breakfast every morning included in the price of the room was very good. They had a variety of food to keep you from ever eating the same thing 3 days in a row. I also appreciate the fact that I didn't get sick. Occasionally, on the 3rd day of my visits to Egypt I get a little sick.

The Italian Restaurant the food was nice, a little too salty for my tastes, the Thai Restaurant was great both restaurants were reasonably priced.

My only complaint was my room was directly across from the bar, pool and courtyard area and the first night that I stayed they had a wedding celebration, so the music was a bit too loud for the early hours of the morning. So if you are a light sleeper, asked to be put in an area of the hotel that is a little quieter.

Also, if you are big on visual surroundings, this may not be the hotel for you. Some of the buildings may not be aesthetically pleasing to you there is also a freeway overpass directly in front of the hotel and under the freeway is a canal. However, most rooms don't even face the front of the hotel. Some room even get a spectacular view of the Pyramids.

If you are looking for value and want to stretch your vacation dollar a little bit further, stay here, you will be impressed.

Great Hotel and Excellent Staff

Definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Cairo. The accomodations were excellent and the rooms were sized to western standards. The staff was excellent, but stay away from the gift shops in the hotel.

Unique Quality: It is very close to the Pyramids at Giza and shopping areas are within walking distance. Beautiful pool area is large and open, excellent for lounging in between expeditions or in the evening. Breakfasts at the hotel are also very good.

Do not stay at the Grand Pyramids Hotel

by Duanetru about Grand Pyramids Hotel Cairo

I would not reccomend this hotel. The staff was rude and aggressive and intimidating about every detail of our stay. The bathroom was disgusting and the water in the shower was scalding hot. The shower hose had a hole in it that sprayed the bathroom mirror. Our friends had problems with leaks in the ceiling, over flowing toilets and disrespect from the hotel staff. None

Le Meridien Forte Grand...

Le Meridien Forte Grand Pyramids An unrivalled and time-honored situation, 10 kilometers south-west of Cairo and within walking distance of the majestic Giza Pyramids, sole survivor of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the enigmatic gaze of the Sphinx. This 5 star hoter is lovely and you have a choice of 4 restaurants. The view from my hotel window looked right onto the pyramids. I lay in bed and just watched the floodlit pyramids until I fell asleep.

Pyramids - need I say more!

by ismael66

There is a reason millions visit this place every year. These are monuments on a monumental scale. You might even hear yourself gasping, even in this modern age.

I tell people you cannot understand them until you visit them. No photo or moving film can give you the impact of being at the foot of these grand pyramids.

They were built from 2589 to 2566 BC. The Great Pyramid is 481 feet high and 755 feet wide. One block can weigh as much as 15 tons.

The Sphinx is younger than the pyramdis and questions still arise about it's actual date of construction and whether the head is different in age than the body. When you see it in person, it look as one, but who knows.

There are men with camels and other traps, but just say no thank you and move on. They have shows here at night, with lights and music and narrations on the history of the pyramids, worth a trip in the dark.

And even if you don't like enclosed places, make the effort and go inside the pyramids, it is worth it, trust me.

I would take a look at the travel guides here. My first trip to Egypt, I got so much good info from VT. I als bought a travel book to get additional ideas.
There are so many things/places that can be listed that you must see.
Some pointers however:
-Be wary of drinking water/ice etc. and always brush your teeth with bottled water(and always confirm that the cap is sealed on the water bottle.)
-Take toilet paper with you when you leave the hotel for the day as it is VERY scarce. If you are a woman, take handywipes, etc.
-Small dollar bills transmit a lot of bacteria as people actually use it in place of toilet paper!
-Take a pair of boots if you will be visiting the pyramids. It is in a desert and heels/new sneakers/etc will get dirty.
-If you are staying in 1 location for a few days, and looking to get around on your own by taxi, ask the driver to wait at your location to take you to the next place. They will even come back the next day and meet you at your hotel and the prices are VERY inexpensive.
-Take loads of pictures..but ASK if you are going to take of the locals.
-You can NOT take your camera into the Cairo Museum or into the pyramids! There is actually a place where you check you camera right outside of the Giza pyramids...
Enjoy as it is an amazing place!
