Lo justo para dormir y desayunar
by Botitas about Husa Pyramids
It´s a good value. Well placed in Giza, near the piramids. It´s not a new hotel and the rooms could be better but if you want to stay quiet, pass the night comfortable (air-con included) and have a good breakfast (good buffet), this can be your choice.

The Pyramids, and Sphinx
by Hanoon
Several pyramids and the Great Sphinx are located on the desert plateau marking the boundary of Giza, a suburb of Cairo. In Egyptian the site is known as 'El-Ahram' (the pyramids). Numerous attempts have been made to give supernatural powers and meanings to these structures but they are beleived by scholars to be nothing more than tombs. Of course it is interesting to speculate as to other meanings to these structures. The specific purpose of these pyramids was to provide a place and means by which the dead Pharaoh would rise to the sky and join with the sun. The pyramid was also beleived to be the mineral concentration of the suns rays of light. Another Hypothesis is that the Pyramids and the Nile represent Orion and the Milky Way; thus focusing the strength and power of heaven to Egypt. The best known pyramids are the tombs of the 3rd and 4th Dynasty Pharaohs: (the largest) Khufu, Cheops in Greek; Khafre, Chephren in Greek; and Menkaure, Mycerinus in Latin. Also, of course, there is the Great Sphinx.

The Pyramids (El-Ahram) and Sphinx (Abu'l Hol) at Giza
The Egyptian Museum Cairo- Main entrance
Tutankhamun's death mask of gold, inlaid with Lapis Lazuli and precious stones.
The gold sarcophagus of Tutankhamun.
Tutankhamun's throne is beautiful. It is covered in gold, silver and gems. The colours are so vivid it is hard to believe it is about 35 centuries old.
The area around the Pyramids was crowded with tourists and hawkers. It was very difficult to focus on these magnificient wonders of the ancient world with people trying to sell you everything from statuettes to camel rides.
Security was reassuring if a bit intimidating everywhere we visited, but everything was overshadowed by the sheer magnificence of the Pyramids
Tourists, tour buses and camels in front of the three smaller tombs of Cheops' wives and sisters with the vast sprawl of Cairo city in the background.
The mysterious and inscrutible Sphinx. Body of a lion with a man's head. It is believed that the face is that of Chephren, owner of the second largest pyramid.

The ever present security as we boarded our boat for a dinner cruise on the Nile at sunset
The cruise boat was beautifully decorated inside and the waiters were all in costume.

Airport transfer fees
by JulesH
Hi,
I am staying at the Husa Pyramids in Cairo in November, and our hotel has offered us airport transfers for US$30 each way. Sounds ok to me (London prices being what they are) but I wanted to check if this is this a reasonable amount to pay for this service, or would we get a better deal arranging this once we are there? I appreciate any advice anyone can give :)
Many thanks
Jules

Seems expensive, even if the hotel is near the Pyramids (i.e the other side of town from the airport): airport to downtown shoud be about 10 USD.

Hello Jules! Good to see you on here.
Poster is correct, a metered taxi should cost you no more than about USD $10-15.00.
Make sure you use metered taxi and they are legit.

Hi Homer! Yes, it's been a while since I've logged onto VT, but sadly, it's been too long since I've travelled anywhere. I hope you're keeping well :)
Many thanks to both of you for your advice. Is it easy enough to pick up a metered taxi on the street? I don't want to risk missing our flight to Sharm because we couldn't find a cab in time.

Whatever you do .. pay in local currency .. Hotel transfers are always known to be more expensive than if you make your own arrangements .. This time it is alittle more than twice as much .. If you pick a limo from the airport, it will cost you around 80 LEs and if you pick a black and white Cab outside the airport and are good in haggling you may get it cheaper but I find this too much of a hasstle after a long & tiring journey and you may have to talk to more than one driver to get the best price .. All the best!
Re: Airport transfer fees

Thanks for that :) We actually don't need transfers from the airport though, as we'll be coming from the oasis by 4X4, however we will need to get back to the airport from the hotel (near the pyramids) so if we get a cab I guess we'll have to pick it up on the street? Would it be appropriate to haggle with the hotel?

You can have a go at haggling with the hotel but I don't think they will give much away. Your best bet is either to flag down a black & white Taxi and negociate a price with the driver or phone a limo company a couple of days in advance and make arrangements. Whatever you do , make sure a price is clearly agreed in advance to avoid any hassle at your destination .. all the best

Many thanks for that. We'll have a go at haggling...nothing to lose I guess? If not then we'll arrange something whilst we're there :)
