hussles..
by an-outsider
avoid the husslers at Giza Pyramids... they have certain give aways like:
1- "come and buy some beautful perfumes..."
2- "u want 2 ride camel !"
3- "original papyrus made by (za) pharoes"
4- "taxi"
just believe in your lonely planet guide and keep the cairo cab number handy (19155)

Toliet paper and money
by johsab
There are three rules you must follow in Cairo:
1) Bring your own toliet paper as must places will not have it. Don't be surprised if the toliet seats are broken off most toliets...the locals are used to using the "hole" and 'em modern things that flush are new to them. So, they stand on the toliet seats to use it....hey, you will see stranger things then this....trust me.
2) Money - see rule #1. My theory is that small bills are used for toliet paper. Bring a zip lock back to hold the Egyptian money. It is filthy and it stinks...esp the lower demoninated bills.
3) Keep your walet in your front pocket with your hand in your pocket as well. I can't count the number of times there was a second hand trying to get in there with mine!
Student cards
by freya_heaven
This is not my favourite thing, just a good tip!
We went to the University of Cairo students union, filled in a form, and were given student union cards, valid for a year.
This meant we got student discount for the following year and rest of our travels.
Bit Naughty, But if your backpacking, generally every bit helps

You need a water parade before you step out!
by M.E.R.V
Drink plenty of water always because the heat is unbearable. Tap water isn't safe to drink and mineral water should be sealed when you buy them from vendors on the streets. Get canned drinks instead of bottled ones if you can and do bring some stomach tablets just in case you get a Mummy-Belly.
Don't be scared to take up an invite
by K1W1
Egyptians love to sit and chat over a coffee or chai. Take time out from your sight seeing and shopping to sit in a cafe or tea house. It can be fascinating to people watch and if you're on your own, or don't look too intimidating, there's a good chance you'll be invited to join a local or 2 who are confident enough with their English.
