Le Meridien Heliopolis outside of city center

Due to overbookings, we got free upgrade to a suite. That was sweet ! Services were excellent and room is clean and comfortable. However, there was not much to see near the hotel in walking distance.

Think again before reservation...

Well, the looks on web can be utterly contrasting, especially with regard to this hotel its quite true. The website states so much and when you really are there, the one thing you find is it's overrated by about 2 stars.

I was there for about 2 weeks recently and faced following:
1. The service is quite near to rubbish. The rooms are not cleaned half the time and you have to call room service.
2. They didn't change my bathrob for a week (can you believe it?)...
3. The entertainment service is poor.
4. The pool sometimes if full of water however, the water doesn't seem chlorinated. Of the 2 weeks I saw it full for only 1 day.
5. The gym is suffocating to be precise.
6. The food quality is quite inconsistent and the staff is just looking for tips u can feel.
7. Last but not the least, THE BREAKFAST. Well, half the time they don't even have brown bread so what more can you expect.

Just think again.

Unique Quality: I really couldn't find any to be precise.

In New Cairo

It's very near the hotel and it's about a 15-20 minutes drive from this hotel to downtown and Khan al khalili

The rooms are very nice and big, i would say. There's a 24 hr money changer and the pool looks great. I didn't have a chance to swim in it, what a pity.

The tastiest Falafel in the world!

by daryll about Felfela Restaurant

Felfela Restaurant is Cairo famous chain restaurant and apparently only available at two places. One in El Tahrir and one at Giza so happens that just few minutes walk from Le Meridien Cairo. You can actually seat at the terrace enjoy your lunch accompanied with a great view of Pyramids.

Do follow up with my next few tips for Dinner at Falafel Restaurant. Like most VT members suggested to try the taamiya falafel! It should be a must try and must eat when you visiting Cairo. Its was truly delicious, full of spice fragrance and I even ate it as my main meal of my first night in the City...

Oh..i miss the falafel. its actually a fava bean deep fried (somehow they did it dry and not oily and crispy the moment you bite it and it really melt in your mouth..its difficult to describe until you eat it your self.]

Cost of the food itself very cheap. My 1st nite take away meal

Taamiya Falafel - LE6 for two pieces
Kofta Sausage on bread - LE8 just like a kebab, but with tasty lamb sausage.

GBP 1 equals to LE10.

Which Hotel To Stay In?

by Rokfire

Hi all, I’ve been reading your posts for a while now but this is my first, so apologies for any mistakes.

I'm coming to Cairo in October for 7 nights, but can't choose between the Golden Tulip Flamenco Hotel or the Le Meridien Heliopolis. Would appreciate if anyone could give me an opinion on either of these hotels.

Which of these two is more central and how long would a cab from them to Giza/Saqqara take?

Finally, i was thinking of flying to Luxor for a day trip, is this possible or am i just being unrealistic?

Appreciate any help you can give me.

the Meridien is by far the better hotel in terms of facilities but the flamenco is smaller, cosier and has better personal service.

It is also closer to the center of town and to giza.

The Meridien is better located for the airport and if you want to explore the areas around heliopolis ( if you dont get run over crossing the road ).

You cannot compare both. Meridien is kinda luxuries than Flamenco. But its quiet far I would say from areas of interest to a tourist. And a taxi would charge you much more to go anywhere in cairo if u r staying in Meridies because its both far & luxurious. If you want to have a sophisticated accomodation go for Meridien. If you would be satisfied by just a clean good stay but close to cairo center & touristic attractions, go for Flamenco

Enjoy your stay!!

About Luxor, you can book a morning flight & get back on a night flight. but it would be exhausting I would say. I suggest that you stay the night over in Luxor.
