Because of an emergency closure at our start, we missed our connection in Cairo. The airport staff were extremely efficient and had already prepared new flight details and a voucher to stay the night at a hotel outside the airport. This required a visa, but in 5 minutes an entry visa was stamped on our passports. Then a bus took us to the hotel. The buses are supposed to come every twenty minutes but we had far longer to wait Then two buses came together.
I realised that I had stayed here before , again at airline expense. We were registered and were taken to our room on the first floor. This was near the restaurant, which unfortunately meant the smell of food permeated the corridors. The room had 3 single beds and en suite bathroom. There was a Tv and broadband connection. A knock on the door , and a member of staff produced a face cloth, an extra towel and tubes of shower gel and body lotion, although the bathroom was already provided with everything. He would not go until I found some money to give him. Unfortunately this is still a common practice in Egypt. We had vouchers for dinner and breakfast at the Orangerie. Tables are set out outside near the swimming pool, or inside. Dinner was a set buffet. There were numerous salads, chicken, beef or fish dishes and then a dessert table. Everything was good. I was surprised to be handed a bill for £175 Egyptian, but was told it was just a formality for the records.
I think it looks a nice hotel to stay in with gym and other facilities.
Unique Quality: The pool looks good but closes at 6pm, and opens about 8am.

Helpfulness
Four hours of bliss!!
On our way back to Cairo for the night, and a plane trip to JFK the very next morning... Sarah and I stayed at the Movenpick Hotel. We did not get in until 1am, so I can not say that I got to experience the wonderful pool (although I did have a nice pool view). The beds were comfortable, the view was great, and the breakfast was top notch.
Unique Quality: Very close to the Cairo International airport.
Delicious breakfast buffet.
Excellent pool.... and a very very comfortable bed!
Opinion of Price: about average

This is an awsome Lebanese restaurante located in the Sheraton Heliopolis, Cairo Hotel. They have great authentic Lebanese food as well as cool entertainment (belly-dancing). The lamb is very good, but look at the menu and try what interests you.

WORKING / VISITING CAIRO - HELIOPOLIS
by freddofrog04
Hi
I am travelling to Cairo in the next few days and will be working in the Heliopolis area for approx 3-4 weeks.
We visited Egypt a few months ago and did all the main sights.
Can anyone advise for things to do, sightseeing, shopping etc in the Heliopolis and Cairo area.
Is Alexandria also worth a visit for a weekend (2 days / 1 night).
Thanks for your help ....

Sure, Alex is definitely worth a visit! The tombs/catacombs are like nowhere else in Egypt, and there are wonderful seafood restaurants to eat at. It's a totally different place than Cairo.
One of the famous old fish restaurants is Zephyrion in Abu Kir (pronounced by Egyptians as "Aboo Ear"). This is the type of place where you look at all the fish laying there on ice and pick out the ones you want to eat.
This area is very famous for historical happenings, too, one of which is the Rosetta Branch of the Nile Delta.... that should ring a bell, eh?
And then there's Alamein way on the west coast... Cheers! w
