16 November is the first day of the muslim feast (Eid Al Adha). It is very unlikely that the museum will be open on that day.

The web site gives the opening times as daily with no qualifing remarks as per holidays ( eg. except on such and such a day). There are also contact details.

BUT beware of the camel and horse men who pester you, and if you do want to ride, make sure you agree on prices for going and coming back. Some people have just been left to find their own way back. The statue of Tuthmosis III.
I am absolutely fascinated by this Pharaoh, known as the Napoleon of Egypt. Every time I visit the museum, I have to see him.
Money exchange

The exchanging of money in Cairo is quit easy, the exchange rate is controlled by the government, so exchanging money at the airport or at your hotel you will get the same rate. Try to exchange a small amount of money in the airport enough to pay a taxi about 60 LE about $11 US dollars and then exchange the rest at your hotel away from preying eyes !!!!!
Rough Guide or Lonely Planet

I took both with me to Egypt. (I have been twice before) and have to say that the ROUGH GUIDE is a much better guide on all front. I found the current edition of Lonely Planet lacking in current info and also very thin reading. I have often thought that Lonely Planet is a bit overrated. ROugh Guide also has better writeups and historical perspective.
? Show some respect

This might be inappropriate to publish, but I thought that many tourists have no respect for the local culture and religion.
I saw a young girl with very little clothing, an Egyptian man made a comment as they passed one another. She confronted him, and shouted at him in English. I wonder if she knows anything about the country she's visiting?
My tour guide said that they do tollerate these tourists, as tourism is important, but it is not acceptable in their culture.
