Fragrant Hotel
The Nile Hilton in my opinion has one of the most envyable positions in Cairo. Sitting on the Nile, with the corniche running along the front of the Hotel. The Nile Hilton is centrally located, being next to the Egyptian Museum & the hub of Midan Tahrir Square.
The hotel is Cairo's first 5 star hotel, maybe is not quite up to the usual Hilton standard. Service was very friendly & always gracious. The food was enjoyable with a very much international menu.
The secluded swimming pool is wonderful, certainly a must after a hot days sight seeing.
Expect to pay about $20 extra for a room with Nile views
Unique Quality: The terrace here on an evening comes alive with wealthy Cairoians socialising and the wonderous smell of rose & honey shisha pipes wafting through a balmy evening. A great place for people watching.

A blessed break from the 1star-2star norms!
After a week of divey inexpensive lodgings and enduring the 12hr train (each way!!!!) down to Luxor and back, we splurged on our last night in Cairo. You might want to operate this way too...try to arrange a discount , while you're at it, based on what season it is and any corporate alliances you may have...
Unique Quality: You either get a really cool Nile River view, or, a view of the noisy, teeming city. We had the latter, but that did include this right-next-door view of the Cairo Museum. The pool area is to die for and the on-site shopping center complex has internet access!! Bonus!

distant from zamalek
I am attending a conference in Inter continental samir Amis. I booked a hotel in Al-Zamalek (22 Taha Hussain St) at President Hotel.
Can any one tell me how far is the hotel from IC SA hotel.

Zamalek is a very pleasant and quiet area. It should take you just a bit more than half an hour to walk to Inter Continental Samir Amis from your hotel. In August I payed 5 pounds for a taxi from Zamalek (near 26th of July Bridge) to Samir Amis.

You can walk from Zamalek to the Semiramis Inter Continental. Walk south to Cairo Tower and the Opera House. Cross the Kasr el Nil bridge right there. The bridge with the lions! When crossing the bridge you will find the white Nile Hilton to your left and the pink Semiramis IC to your right. Cant be missed!!

It will take you longer than half an hour to walk it, and I wouldn't recommend it frankly. You will have to deal with the heat and also heavy, heavy traffic - crossing the roads is a nightmare! (I'm a seasoned resident, and walking around town is stressful even for me!) You'll arrive at your conference hot, dusty and frazzled, trust me. You can get there in about 10 minutes in a taxi providing the bridges and corniche aren't backed up, as can happen in rush "hour" - i.e. 7-9.30am and 4-6.30pm.
