budget hotel for Pharaohs :)

I was not impressed with the its amenities at first sight after a very late arrival.
However, noticed then the hotel staff was always very kind to me and liked the particularity that Pharaohs Hotel is very popular among international tourists.

At $35 dollars per night, this remains my hotel of choice for a budget trip to Egypt.

Internet is free in the lobby, wireless or cable.
No wireless internet in the rooms.

Spanish and Zambia Embassies are located almost next door to the hotel and the Cairo Museum is only 5 minutes away.

Basic hotel in a nice location

This hotel is located on the left bank of the river Nile, about 20 minutes walk from the Corniche and Downtown. A metro station is nearby.
There is a fully licensed bar, and the rooms are comfortable, with A/C, Refrigerator and TV.
Try to get a room located at the 7th floor or upper, since the area is quite noisy even at night.

Unique Quality: It's close to the city centre and just 15 minutes away by taxi from Pyramids area

cheap all the way...very cheap

Ok, this is a very cheap hotel. Most of the room have two twin bed. The pillows are very hard. If you plan to saty there a long time, bring your own. There is no save if the room. A save is available at the reception but not recommended.
The staff is so so.
Make sure you have your soap and shampoo.
If you are staying there just to sleep (come in late, leave early) it's great.
The food offered for breakfast is very good (not the orange juice...is Kool-Aid or Tang juice).

Unique Quality: Close to a corner store, a grocery shop, McDonald's is at 15 minute walk, internet (5 Egyptian pound per hour: approx: $1 us or canadian.), banks, etc...
There is some security (tourism police at the door).
Ask for a room with a view on the Nile....a stay on the 8th floor is great. Around $17US per night.
From this hotel, when you come out of the hotel turn right, right again at the first street, left at the first street (HSBC bank on the corner). On your right on a second floor is Dot Com, the internet café at 5 pound per hour ($1us).

Pharaohs Hotel

We stayed at the Pharaohs Hotel three seperate times during our time in Egypt. The first time we stayed on the top floor in a room that didn't look like it had been cleaned...we also had brown water coming out of the taps... The second time we stayed there the room was clean and basic... The third time we had a nicer room with a balcony looking over the Nile and a double/queen bed. :)

We were in a good area though, fairly quiet at night and walking distance to shops, the Nile etc.

Transfer - Airport to Pharaohs hotel

by darrensunley

Hi,

I am travelling to Egypt as part of a Geckos group tour in about 2 weeks time and the first hotel we are staying in is the Pharaohs Hotel (12 Lotfi Hassouna Street Dokki). I have read that getting a taxi should not be a problem so long as I am willing to pay the driver good money !! Can anyone give me an approximate cost that I should expect to pay to get to the hotel please ??

Also, is there a good alternative way by public transport (i.e. metro or bus) to get to the hotel that anyone would recommend ??

My flight is due to arrive at 1615, and so by the time I have sorted out a visa and collected my baggage, I'm guessing it will be about 1730 or so ... just in case this makes any difference to the route that anyone would recommend.

Thanks in advance,
Darren

if u are intersted in the yellow cab then i have an excellent driver's mobile number , but he works only at evenings and night , even he can arrange with one of his good colleauges .
nice stay :)

We arrived somewhere at eight in the evening. And much to my surprise, it only took half an hour to get through the airport.
We took a taxi outside the airport to the pyramids area, which cost about 100 pounds.

Here's the phone number of a friendly young taxi driver with a neat car. He doesn't drive too fast, I think he really loves his car ^_^. If you want his email, you can PM me:
