Although it is the first thing that springs to mind when you think of Egypt and not the best tip you'd expect from an Egyptian, the Pyramids have to be the top MUST see place in Egypt. I lived in Cairo until the age of 21. I spent 14 years in a school in 'el haram' area (which transaltes to 'the pyramid' in arabic). Every day riding on the school bus to and from school i could see the giant structure, i never got bored of it. However, all this would not prepare you to when you actually get close to it and realise how tiny you really are compared to it. Then you imagine how this could have been built thousands of years ago...this is truly amazing. At around 3 or 4 in the morning after a night out, driving back home listening to my music i always decide to do a tour of Zamalek (my district). Zamalek is an island in the nile and the only thing connecting it to the remainder of the city is a couple of bridges. The streets are lit up, very quite, hardly a soul in the streets, and the nile to your side...it's so relaxing and make's a big change from the bustling days.
