Be aware of missing laundries

The hotel locates in front of Sadat Metro station and close to the main streets. The price is also reasonable despite of the location. But if you ask to wash your clothes, you might lose your clothes in the process. They charge 1 pound for each item to wash. I asked the hotel to wash my clothes twice and there was something missing each time. First time was a pair of black socks with Puma logo. At that time, missing a pair of socks might be probably to happen because of its size and similar items with other tourists. At that time, they tried to look for my socks and found bunch of pair of socks in different colors in other tourists' laundries stacked behind the reception desks. But they could not find mine.
The second time I asked, my gray T-shirt was missing. I asked them to wash all my T-shirts except one, so there is no way I mistook it as missing. After I received the cleaned clothes at the reception, I tried to check my other clothes to find the gray T-shirt. There is only one gray T-shirt I had, so there is no possibility of missing it. The hotel might take the record of cleaned items in a notebook, but they do not count it at the time of item check-in. On the notebook, there was 8 items were noted instead of 9 items. That means my T-shirt was missing before counting the clothes. When I asked the clerk to wash my clothes, the clerk at the reception called the man walking down from the upstairs, and the man took my clothes to the upstair. At that point, the clerk did not counted my clothes. So it went missing after the man took it to somewhere.

If you stay in Sun Hotel, you might get extra clothes as a survivor... In my case, I lost two clothes, one pair of socks and a T-shirt.

Unique Quality: There are some computers for the guests and it costs 5LE per hour. WIFI is free, but it does not work from your room. During January 2010, the WIFI was not working for weeks.

A single room with shared bathroom is about 80LE, and it comes breakfast - 2 breads, a package of cheese and jam, and a cup of tea.. That's a good value for staying the center of Cairo for budget travelers and students.

Hostel

The Sun boasts one of the cheaper dorm rooms downtown. Breakfast is included, and it's pretty clean. The staff was accommodating and friendly. The location is very centralized.
I guess I don't have any complaints about this place, but I wasn't thrilled either. It's cheap, but not the best place to socialize, and the building itself seemed a little creepy to me. Not sure why, it's just in a weird location.

New Sun Hotel

Not quite as good as Ismailia but still a decent backup is the New Sun Hotel. This is still central to all the major sites and the bus to the airport. The thing that I found inconvienient was that some of the lights didn't work in the washrooms.

Handy to Egyptian Museum

This hotel is right in Tahir Square and is close to everything, like the museum, the Metro, Eateries etc.

Unique Quality: With views from the roof you can see quite a bit of Cairo.

Cheap but trustworthy hotel

The Sun Hotel is a budget hotel which is situated in Central Cairo. A great place for backpackers as it is very cheap......about US$6 a night from memory. The staff here are really friendly and helpful and will organise trips for you both around Cairo and around Egypt.....we took a great trip South and travelled up the Nile in a felucca.....it was a wonderful experience and very affordable. The rooms are very basic and the facilities are shared. A very simple breakfast of rolls and tea is included in the price of the room. There is internet available and you can store bags there if you need to.
