I spent three pleasant days here. The hotel is simple, but the room was clean, albeit with tattered carpet, and everything in the bathroom worked. There is a very pleasant courtyard, and the rooms are far from city noise. Staff were invariably pleasant and helpful. The small dining room offered a good breakfast and excellent simple meals.

I had a nice stay at the Queen of Sheba Hotel in Addis Ababa. The hotel is pleasant and all the facilities are reasonable compared to other hotels we saw during our time. The staff is helpful and professional, and the rooms are suites, some with views of the mountains above Addis. Breakfast is included in the price, although it is not much of anything, and a shuttle bus is also included. The location of the hotel is relatively convenient, and the hotel is quiet if you get a room away from the streetside. It is a bit overpriced but was definitely better than other hotels we saw in Addis with the exception of the much much more expensive Sheraton. It was $129/night for a double including breakfast and airport transfers. 220 Bir per night for a twin room, and 150 bir for a single room. Room with shower and TV with CNN & BBC. Room make-up daily. The hotel restaurant with the patio is good, about 35 Bir for a burger sandwich and a beer. It's a bit far from the city centre, if you want to go to the Piazza area, it takes 30-minute walk uphill along Churchill Ave. or 20-30 Bir taxi within 10-minute.

I spent one night here, courtesy of Ethiopian Airlines, on an overnight stopover. The hotel is large and relatively modern, although things are a bit shabby around the edges. Service was good . It's nothing special, but there is also nothing to object to.
Excellent Buffet dinner in the evening. A great chance to sample lots of Ethiopian dishes. Up past Piazza you will find the Semien. 7th floor bar overlooks Addis for nice views on a clear day. $67 twin room inc tax. Fast internet (1 Birr per min plus tax) Clean room, warm showers, and own generator for those daily power cuts. Very noisey in mornings. Good restaurant with 40 Birr buffet in the evening. This five-star hotel is the first hotel on the African continent to join the 'Luxury Collection' - an elite group of hotels that are internationally recognised as being among the world's finest and most exclusive. The Sheraton Addis may just be outside your accomodation budget, but visiting it is quite an experience. After you have passed the security check, you enter a world very unlike the rest of Addis or indeed unlike the rest of Ethiopia. The inside is pure luxury; marble, expensive works of art for decoration, everything shiny and spotlessly clean. The outside is like paradise: fountains, beautiful, exotic flowers, plants and trees, a large swimming pool, separate playground for the youngest visitors, and Breezes, the poolside restaurant. (click on the name for more info) Walking around on the hotel site, you imagine yourself anywhere but in the poorest country in the world. Walls have even been put up and exoticly decorated/painted to keep you from seeing 'the real world' outside... The Sheraton Addis is owned by Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al Amoudi, the richest man in Ethiopia. He was born in this country from an Ethiopian mother and a Yemeni father. If money is no object book one of the little villas, each with their own little pool. Theme: HotelPrice: US$180 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: most expensiveAddress: Taitu Street, , Addis Ababa 00000Directions: Just ask anyone.

Okay so this place is ultra luxury, said to have been built because the UN sec gen of the time didn't want to go to Addis because there were no decent hotels... is this a myth? I don't know but the hotel is a reality, but only to those who can afford it. Latest single room rate offered (on 4 Nov '05) US$215 per room incl. 25% tax and b/fast. This is US$12 cheaper than what the Hilton offered. Check-out time is 13h00. If you want to keep the room till 18h00 they charge 50% of the rate and 10% for every hour thereafter. Airport transfers on the hotel shuttle bus are free. I booked with Salamawi, she was helpful and friendly. The Sheraton Addis is part of the brand's "Luxury Collection." In my opinion, it's a typical top-end, brand-name hotel; apart from being gigantic, it's not terribly unique. I stayed there for several days while attending a meeting, and never had the opportunity to leave the compound because of my schedule. I may as well have been sequestered anywhere in the world.
