This five-star hotel is the first hotel on the African continent to join the 'Luxury Collection' - an elite group of hotels that are internationally recognised as being among the world's finest and most exclusive. The Sheraton Addis may just be outside your accomodation budget, but visiting it is quite an experience. After you have passed the security check, you enter a world very unlike the rest of Addis or indeed unlike the rest of Ethiopia. The inside is pure luxury; marble, expensive works of art for decoration, everything shiny and spotlessly clean. The outside is like paradise: fountains, beautiful, exotic flowers, plants and trees, a large swimming pool, separate playground for the youngest visitors, and Breezes, the poolside restaurant. (click on the name for more info) Walking around on the hotel site, you imagine yourself anywhere but in the poorest country in the world. Walls have even been put up and exoticly decorated/painted to keep you from seeing 'the real world' outside... The Sheraton Addis is owned by Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Al Amoudi, the richest man in Ethiopia. He was born in this country from an Ethiopian mother and a Yemeni father.
